I was able to turn an elemental against its own kind using a summoning staff that Ma'jok gave me.

You get a stick to play with! Go find any Underfoot Hardstompers. There are some around 1962.61, -99.14, 3624.09 .
When you get close to them, your staff will be usable, so right-click it to summon an elemental and be ready to kill the one you aggro.
Return to Researcher Ma'jok at 2020.43, -123.41, 3423.48 .
