I found a research notebook that was apparently left behind by a hireling that was to collect specimens for Sythor the All-Seeing. I decided I could finish the work and collect the bracelet reward. It looks like these are all animals that would live in the water. Looks like it is time for a swim!
I found the four types of animals listed in the notebook.
I delivered the four animal specimens to Sythor the All-Seeing.I talked to Sythor the All-Seeing at the top of his tower at outpost. Apparently his apprentice, Ludz, was an irresistible treat for the sandstalkers. He gave me the reward that he had originally planned to give to Ludz.
Stage 1

This quest is initiated by examining the book "Aquatic Research Notebook". This book is dropped by various forms of fish or sharks at the Outpost of the Overlord (it doesn't drop from Bladefin everytime). You must kill four different mobs, which can be any of the following:
- a needlefang
- a reef turtle
- a sawtooth shark
- a shoal glider: found near 9,0,273 next to a dock. Also found near -126,-11,11
- a sandstalker
After accomplishing this task speak to trainer Sythor the All-Seeing at the tower for your reward.

I've killed Bladefin three times today, and he has not dropped the Aquatic Research Notebook at all. Just FYI. I actually haven't been able to get the notebook at all, it hasn't dropped from the other sea creatures yet either.

I found the "A Shoal Glider" at 9, 273 next to the dock with out a ship on it, next the dock that has the freeport/quenos ship.

The shoal gliders spawned after i killed sharks on the coast. The same goes for reef turtles. These three creatures seem to share spawns in the vincinity of -118,-11,76
The sandstalkers are in the lake by bladefin ruins. They are not as common as the viscious sandstalkers but they do exist.

found reef turtle swimming in the water around 27, -47
now i just have to figure out how to ding the sandstalker...

I've searched for the reef turtle now for a couple of hours...he's nowhere to be found. Do I have to kill anything else before he spawns? Where does he spawn? near the ship? or in the cove?

Can confirm that all 4 listed mobs exist on the outpost. Patience is required though, the shoal glider and reef turtle are rare. I kept killing the sandstalkers and viscous(?) sandstalkers.

I actually received this book from a chest dropped by a sandstalker today .. and in the list of critters to research, I had a sandstalker listed in place of the sawtooth shark.

How do you get the shoal glider and reef turtles to spawn?

I have been all over the place in the outpost and cannot find a shoal glider. Is there a place holder for this or specific loc. and time of day that I need to be looking? Thanks.

Needlefangs appear to be placeholders for sandstalkers. Kill a bunch, a sandstalker will pop.

Confirmed, Bladefin still exists and drops this notebook in the Outpost of the Overlord.
His spawn timer seems to be longer than it used to be, but he's still in the same ol' place.
Solo'd him today with my level 8 defiler.

Just confirmed that Bladefin still lives! He is at same spot he always was on "Outpost of Overlord" only (replaced by Vulth; a giant octopus on "Queens Colony). I do not belive Vulth would drop the Reasearch Notebook, since I suspect it is now only an Outpost quest, see my previous post regarding availability of "a Sandstalker".

Thunder, I have just started two new chars, one evil and one good. It seems to me that the sandstalkers are only at the Outpost of the Overlord (evil aligned isle) replacing what on Queens Colony would be the sawtooth and razortooth sharks. So my best guess is no; you will not be able to complete the quest now.

Regarding Bladefin-
Most of the time he doesn't exist. He has been replaced by an very large and ugly Octopus. I cannot remember its name.

Tried to complete this quest today. Started by examing the "Aquatic Research". The quest title now seems to be "Aquatic Research Notebook". The task was to kill one each of the following mobs:
Needlefang
Reef Turtle
Shoal Glider
A Sandstalker
I am on Queen's Colony and can't seem to find the sandstalker. Anyone have any ideas where to find it? Or is this quest no longer valid with the changes to the Isles?

An update to Bladefin: he is no longer heroic. I soloed him with a level 6 mage, he is now a level 6 solo mob

I've always duoed with someone else on this quest, as all of the sharks have an attack which disables your Combat Abilities, and Bladefin is 6^^ Heroic. Be nice and give the Aquatic Research Book to the Mage in your party when you kill him; Bladefin usually also drops one of the common armors or weapons from the Isle (Sharkfin tunic/bracers) in addition to the book.
Pair this quest with Lasydia's Call, since you'll be in the water for at least 15 minutes anyway hunting Razortooth Sharks and in that time Bladefin will probably come and find you.
