With the restrictions on zoning into the former low rent areas of Freeport, you only have to make it to the front gate of Longshadow Alley. Try to avoid the radar & aggro of the heroic level guards in the area.

This quest is initiated by reading the book The History of Erudites and choosing to Read Story 2 after completing the first quest. You must visit three locations. After visiting each read the book to receive the next destination:
- Visit The Destroyed Knowledge Portal at the center of Longshadow Alley. You can reach Longshadow Alley by taking the "Travel within Freeport" bell that's located on the Commonland docks Read the book again.
- Visit The Atrium at -72, -24, -98 in Stormhold (second level). Read the book again.
- Visit The Vault of Maelstrom at 121,-24,1 in Stormhold.
After reading the book upon completing the third step, this quest will close. Examine the book again and choose to Read Story 3 to open the next quest.

I still cannot get the update for the vault. it does not update when i approach it nor can i enter inside. I have made repeated /bug reports to sony with no responce.

i could not get the vault of maelstrom walk-next-to-the-door trick to work, but there seems to be a level cap. at 29, the door wasn't clickable. at 30, it was. rtclk, open, walk in, update.

To get here, I took the docks and just went up to the centre of the town from the stairs. No guards were about, so maybe I was just lucky.

Meatheon ... you can get there by taking the boat from the dock. Go into sprint mode ... sort of a crapshoot whether you can get to the middle of the town, for the quest point before running into a guard. Took me 3 times.

For the Vault of Maelstrom, we couldn't open the door, but just running up to it (right next to it) triggered a quest update. I hope that works for everyone else.

I am a citizen of Qeynos and all I did was hit the Dock from Commonlands and run pelmel into the middle of the city. as long as you don't run across any guards, you are fine. And at that the worst the guards did to me was kick me out of the city.

I too could not enter the door leading to the vault of maelstorm. im a lvl 34 sk also boxing a lvl 34 cleric and the door remains locked though there is no indication when clicking or examining the door that entrance is even possible. there appears to be no access quest for it either. ive made a /bug report to sony. i will report back if i find the answer.

I dont see any way to complete this quest without doing betrayal wuest. As a citizen of Quenos, you are not allowed in to Freeport as needed to get to Longshore Alley.

The portal is just the center structure in that city.
The Vault of Malestorm is inside the chapel ,turn right after u get into chapel, u will find a hallway to right.

Where is the Destroyed Knowledge Portal in Langshadow Alley? I dont really need a loc, just some idea of where it is on the map. Thanks for any future help!

My group was down here killing things for several quests. We found our way to the Chapel so I could enter the Maelstrom room and finish the last step in part two of the History quest. Unfortunately, the door was locked and nobody could get it to open.
Any thoughts on why?

Ok, I just visited the vault of Maelstrom as a lvl 21 troubador. It was a piece of cake, I turned on my "sneak" walked in, walked out, everything conned yellow or blue on the entire route.

I just found the vault of Maelstrom. I was just wandering through stormhold looking for question marks, and when I went into the alter room there was a hallway that I have never seen before, so I went down the hall and came to a door. When I entered I found a sword on the alter called the maelstrom, and got a message that said, "you have discovered the vault of maelstrom" I spoke with the sword and it told me to look into the storm to find my power, but the storms that appeared, although non aggro were yellow to me with one up arrow, and I am level 29. So of course I knew better than to try to kill them. So I spoke to the sword again, and it said, "the storm has subsided, and the storm things disappeared. Now the door I came in won't open, and people on the other side, said it is just a crack in the wall, no hallway. So I am trapped in there, and will have to do COQ now:)

Where is it in Stormhold? I tried going to the back room there where there is acolytes and cavs, but no luck in getting the quest :(

3rd part is vault of maelstrom. i think its in the deep of stormhold keep ii. I am not a high enough level to get in at this time solo.

2nd part is visit the stormhold. unfortunately you need a group of 6 minimum to enter which i didnt have at the time.
