While the hides soak, collect some roots you saw nearby and teach the gnolls the fundamentals of food preservation.

Gather 10 root vegetables for the gnolls.

These are on the hills in the immediate area, and look like little grey bushes.

Some may be found in this area: -1026, -536, -2121

You're going to need a couple of these in later quests, so you might want to grab a couple extra!

Find a recipe for the vegetables (yep, back to Matthew.) Pick up your other ingredients too.

Matthew will sell you Far Seas Trading Company Recipe: Basic Root Preserves for 4g, 60s, 80c .

Take the roots, recipe, and ingredients back to Ruffin.

Show Ruffin how to preserve the parsnips at the cooking fire.

This makes a house item, Preserved Parsnips, so you might want to make a few!

Speak to Ruffin.

I saw some edible roots of some sort growing in the area, and the gnolls say they can eat them, but they only grow for a short season and then are gone. I offered to teach the gnolls how to preserve the vegetables in jars so they can store them to eat all year.
