I have discovered a gnoll rune with Norrathian and Gnoll languages on it. If I gather more of these Chirannite Threat Totems I might get an understanding of the gnoll language.
I have learned Gnollish, language of the gnoll race.I have studied a great amount of gnoll runes written in both Norrathian and Gnollish. I now understand the language of the gnolls.

Comment to Gorack: yes you may not want to know what the gnolls have to say, but there are later quests in the works (or already out there) that require you to hear what they are saying... ;)

Once you study it, it turns into a "Studied Chirannite Threat Totem". Once you have all of them and complete the quest can you safely delete these? Too bad they didn't allow at least one to be placed in your house as a trophy.

Not sure why this quest is labled 10+........ sure being able to understand Gnoll is kinda cool, but I'm not all that impressed by what they have to say.

These totems can also be found in the Shattered Vail which can now be accessed without the 3-6 member group. Level 17 gnolls that drop totems at a high rate.

Indeed, they've finally fixed this one. The totems can be gotten by killing off the gnolls outside BB, even gray ones. (I've gotten 2, so far, in about an hour, which is about 30x faster than they were dropping before. I'm looking forward to finding out what "jock attack man" means (some of them say that when they die).

the totems can also be found off looters/diviners/lookouts in Thundering steps, they are no longer in chest so all can finish this, took me 3 hours of nonstop killing and i got 6 totems.

There are many much rarer spawns in EQ2. I got five of the totems from killing 96 green^^ gnolls in BB. I bought the last totem from the broker.

Bucky drops totem, however it drops other item like weapons and adepts too. I killed like 20 Bucky for a totem to drop. Anyway it is just too week for a named mob, lvl 22 - 23 are able to solo it without much problem.

I would love to have completed this -- to be able to read the gnoll comments. I finally gave up in disgust -- I killed, individually and in groups, vast #'s of gnolls in BlackBurrow, and ended up with only two of the 5 totems. There's a line between hard and ridiculous; this one crosses that line. I hope SOE gives us some other chance to learn to speak gnoll.

I have checked, Bucky drops totems, so the quest is available up to lvl 23. You can also trade the totems between players, so where are no real lvl boundery.

If you are past the level req. can u still complete the quest if you buy the totem from other players?

Does anyone know if Bucky (the Brew master) drops the totems? If so, this quest could be available up to lv 23.

You turn off combat experience by right-clicking on your experience bar and selecting "Disable Combat Experience." Be warned, however, that you will still gain quest experience, so make sure you avoid completing quests until you are ready to level.
These totems CAN be traded, so you can always either level up an alt to collect them (they're not lore, so they can go in your shared bank), or stand in the zone and auction that you are buying them.

You can turn off Adventure XP by right-clicking you XP bar and click 'Turn off Adventure Experiance'

How do you turn off the experience to not level above doing this quest please?

I completed this one last week. It's fun to know what the gnolls are saying to you.. Frustratingly hard to get those 5 totems, though. I spent lvl 16-19 in BB soloing almost exclusively to get those drops and barely managed to do it. Group XP is too fast to get enough totems for everyone before you all level past the range that chests drop. (You can turn off XP however, if you want to.)

You must log in or create an account to post messages.This is the quest to learn to speak the gnoll language. It is initialized by examining a Chirannite Threat Totem. These are randomly dropped on the corpses of any gnoll in any places that gnolls reside like Blackburrow, Antonica, The Shattered Vale and the Thundering Steppes, The Caves, The Sundered Splitpaw, The Pillars of Flame and The Sinking Sands.
Please Note: These totems are corpse drops not chest drops so gnolls will drop these even if the con grey.
You will then need to obtain 5 more Chirannite Threat Totems and examine each of them. After you have all five you will be able to speak and understand gnollish.
