Hmm, if you examine the artifact you will get the New Quest window. If you decline the quest (it was late and i was tired :P) then the artifact will be in your bag !!

Where you killed the archivists, there is a clickable tablet at 1599, 168, -464 , tucked away on the small metal platform on top of the hill where they all spawn. Pick up the tablet to start this quest.
Take the tablet to Aralokal.
