All of the elementals in Kunark seem to drop some stone or crystal or shard. Given the lack of notes on them (such as a "required by the quest" note) I can only conclude that they are nothing but vendor trash. However, they sell for generally less than half a gold which, given the coin to be made in Kunark, does not seem worth the bag space to hold them. As I adventure, if I start running out of space between town runs, I delete these first.
