In 2011 this quest was changed to be repeatable once per year.
You will be offered this quest by Professor Heribert ( -1924, -36, -610 ) upon completing the quest Scary Scarecrows.
Once you've grabbed several friends and it's nighttime in game, go back to McQuibble Farm and head over to the smallest field around -1684,-16,-41 . Professor Heribert spawns in this area (he should first appear around 8:00 PM game time); talking to him will trigger the fight.
Note: The professor is said to spawn at 8PM, 10PM, 12AM and 2AM game time. Once you spawn the professor, he will only stay up for 45 in-game minutes before despawning. If you miss all of the windows for triggering the fight you will have to wait for the next night to roll around.
The Scarecrow King who scales to your level, is epic x2 and spawns at -1696,-18,-84 along with four scarecrow guards must be defeated before your quest will update.
After the Scarecrow King is beaten, speak again to Ponchy Shorttoe to receive your reward.

Took a 95 necro and 95 SK, both with Krivix mercs. The mercs took the Scarecrow King down before we could even target him. Easy kill.
there were a huge group of people there when i spawned him and someone else got the kill. will he spawn him again for me?

Well I'm sitting....and sitting...and sitting... waiting for the king to spawn. Talked to the prof, nothing.. he popped back in around midnight norrath time and said he need to concentrate.. still nothing.

Can someone tell me if this quest can only be completed for night of the dead event? Have had it since March however whenever I talk to the Prof, nothing happens.Pleas let me know, I had a full group and then NOTHING. I felt bad wasting everyones time!

Been trying to get a group together for this quest in game now for about 3 weeks.None of my guildies are ever on when I am and when they are it's never more then 3 at a time, and then they say because its an epic quest i have to be a higher level. Currently Im a 33 illusionist on the AntoniaBayle server and really want this mask.I know this isnt a likely place to ask for such help but it would be greatly appreciated.any takers?

Professor spawned for me as soon as I ran up to the spot in the middle of the night (had expected to have to wait!)... it was around 4AM game time. I'm guessing the 9-9:45pm restriction has been changed into simply "night" now.
Soloed him easily as a 56 Swashbuckler. Fight lasted about 4-5 minutes, at most I lost 20% health.

I'd rather have the evil pitchfork. I'm disappointed that my quest offered a bone sculpture instead. (I already have one like it from the haunted house quest.)

Professor seems to spawn around 9pm game time. Watched him despawn around 12am.
The Professor spawns at the /waypoint -1681, -14, -45
He spawns at 9:00 pm game time and I read he will disappear at 9:45 pm game time.
You must hail the Professor to spawn the monster.
I had 5 lvl32s in my group and it was a good fight, but no close calls.

Are there any tricks? I've tried going to the smallest field but the prof doesn't spawn either.
I see the group in the barn, but they disappear and are "not an enemy."

I did the quest today but the evil pitchfork was replaced by a bone sculpture which is an item to place in your house.

There are new rewards for the Crowking.
the quest is the same as before but now you get some orange & black candles and a bone sculpture, both for your house.
You still get a wearable pumpkin head.

Soloed Boss today as a 42 Necro... and my rogue pet (Master I) and my two dot pets (Adept III).
At the end of the fight I still had 50% mana and 75% health.
I am still curious for what the mask is?! Seems to be useless...

I completed the quest last night with 2 friends. The group consisted of lvl 46 monk, lvl 45 berserker and a lvl 38 inquisitor and the king went down just as we were all running out of power. It should be added that the healer just used healing once or twice. So for those of you who have left it late since it is hard to find a raid it' easy to go back with a group at higher levels.

Taolynn - try using /showhelm to turn display of your helmet on -- that's what I had to do. =)

Completed the quest and got the mask, but it does not appear to change appearances. I would have thought maybe that was a Halloween-only thing, if a guildy hadn't seen someone with a pumpkin head a few days ago. Bugged?

Died easily with two full groups of lvl 30's or so. Make sure everyone in the raid hails the professor or they will not get update. Professor spawns at approximately -1681 -14 -45

Got hammered by the Epic x2^^^. I deleted the quest and went back to the professor and picked it up again. Have to meet him in the fields for the summoning.

I got killed off, and now the quest just says for me to kill him, and the professor isn't respawning. Do I wait for him to repop, or what?... *is confused now*

The professor spawned around 9pm game time, and despawned a few minutes later (one group member was afk). So don't wait to talk to him when he spawns.

I got to the part where the scarecrows spawn and they just disappeared when I entered the farmhouse. Then I was instructed to find Shanty on top of the huge rocks to the East of the farmhouse.
The next step was to revisit the farmhouse in the daytime and received a gleaming medallion at this point.
Then back to Shanty who travels the road from the farmhouse leading west.

Professor Heribert finally revealed that he can just go out into the field and cast a spell to summon the master of the animated scarecrows. Great guy that Professor. Anyways when I have gathered eleven friends, I should head out to the smallest field closest to the river. Finally, this most bewildering of conundrums can be solved.
Heribert summoned the master of the scarecrows, The Scarecrow King! My friends and I defeated him.
It turns out Ponchy was behind the strange scarecrows and missing pumpkins all along, how bizarre...With the help of Professor Heribert we have solved the mystery of the missing pumpkins. It turns out the halfling Ponchy Shorttoe was behind the scheme the whole time! Apparently, he found a mask that gave him the power of the Scarecrow King. Under the mask's influence he was acting as a pumpkin crazed tyrant bent on pumpkin domination. That silly little halfling turned the mask over to me for safe keeping.
