level 25 my %@#! I've had this one on a character since level 25, near a month so it's before anything for halloween, and am at 40 but the quest keeps right on leveling with me.

It was originally introduced for a Halloween event, but it's available all year. I'll tag it "scales" though.

The scarecrows are not easy is an understatment, they are lvl27 heroic, as a solo quest it is a ridiculous waste of time. I dont mind doing quests that require a group to complete a section, but these spring out unexpected, cant even be seen from a distance as in first part. This is a pathetic quest typical of some of totally unrealistic we find ourselves wasting time on

Shanty is on one of those grey hills, southwest of the farmhouse... he is a little dwarf dude sitting there

These scarecrows aren't as easy as they appear. I am a 28 Guardian, and am usually able to solo mobs that are rated as these are and in the numbers that they come.
I dont know if one of them is healing, or if they have INSANE regen, but it takes me ages to kill one, because their health keeps going up! I just tried them again, and was able to kill 1.5 out of 4 of them before they killed me... I am probably not going to be able to solo them until 30+... sooo annoying!!

I found him at -2068, 25, -125, on top of a grey rock outcropping.

Daytime, 4:20pm... got the medallion, walked up and down the road as far as the aquaduct; no pop. Logged out/in, walked down the road and presto the great pumpkin... definitely bugged, but workable.

Once you have received the medallion, during the day, start walking up the middle of the road that runs NW away from the burned out house. You must be IN the road, not next to it. A bunch of \/27 scarecrows will spawn. I (obviously) couldn't kill them as lvl 22 monk, even though I could do the other parts in the chain. You need to kill all of them to continue. The coords from the earlier poster are correct.

This quest drove me banannas!!!!!! Literally, I kept being attacked by all these scarecrows and no matter how many time I died, I killed them, or ignored them to click on Shanty's body NOTHING WORKED! Finally I got the spawning #'s and tried a 154857 time. Here's the deal. When you see his dead body, your not too late, he first of all spawns at -2068, ??, -124 on a rock, you talk to him, then check out the farm house and are suppose to meet up with him again at -1742, -25, and -298 (on the path where the scarecrows attack you!!). Once you kill the scarecrows that time, the quest updates!! :) TADDDA!!!!

This quest is frustrating. The skeletons jumped me every time I took this road (starting when I was level 22-23) and I had to run away. Literally, every time I took the road...
I still have the medallion, but now that I'm level 27 (same level as the quest), they refuse to spawn. Any ideas? I don't know what to do, but I'm really starting to dislike big floppy stuffed dolls.

I am also stuck on the Shanty part of this quest. I have been to the farm in daylight...no update & I did not receive a medallion. I have fought the scarecrows 8-10 times, with no update. I suspect that this is a bug..not getting the medallion means I will never get the update when I kill the scarecrows.

I am getting really sick of this quest. I have been ambushed by crazed scarecrows at least 8 times, and I have defeated them all, but Shanty?? No sight, until the second to last time, where I saw his corpse in a brief glimpse - when I was finished with the scarecrows, he was gone again. This is getting tiresome... But I am glad to see that it is actually doable, I was beginning to believe there was a bug that kept me from updating.

I found Shanty (or his body) the second time at Loc -1,742, -25, -298 which is on the NW path out of the fields. Along with the body, 4 scarecrows spawn again for another fight. Killing them sends you back to the Professor.

You need to kill the scarecrows first in order to return to Shanty. They spawn after 7am Norrathian time from what I was able to figure out.

Where about does Shanty spawn the second time, when you have to find him going north west on the road? I could not find him anywhere and then got killed by the scarecrows when I got too close to the farm.

Dunno about that "easy to fight" bit.. I'm a lvl 21 pally and got hammered when trying to take them on solo. Going to ask for a bit of backup heals on my next attempt..

Alt-c will also bring up an animated clock showing you both gametime and your computer's time. Very neat game function. It appears in the lower right hand corner of your ui the first time.

The timeframe for 'at night' starts at 8:00pm game-time. you can find out what time it is by typing /time

The crazed scarecrows spawn when you return to the farm even if it is before you find Shanty.
Walking across the fields causes them to spawn, not just entering the farmhouse.
If you spawn them before you speak to Shanty you need to then find and talk to Shanty then leave the area and return so they will respawn and give the quest update.
They are all triple down arrows so easy to fight.

You will be offered this quest from Professor Heribert ( -1924, -36, -610 ) upon completing the quest Petrified Pumpkin Pies.
- Once it's nighttime (at least 8:00 PM game time), head over to McQuibble's Farm and approach the farmhouse around -1859, -22, -216 . Some animated and burning scarecrows will appear and begin speaking; this will update your quest.
- Return to Professor Heribert at Windstalker Village
- Find and speak to Shanty Gaggleshorn ( -2068, 26, -124 ) , who will spawn up on his rocky hill (which is southeast of the fields) when you approach.
- Wait until daytime (at least 7:00 AM game time) and return to McQuibble's Farmhouse. Walk into the farmhouse around -1862,-22,-213 and you will automatically be given a gleaming medallion.
- Take the dirt path northwest of the farmhouse. You will see a corpse and 3 bales of hay in the road ahead and four crazed scarecrows will spawn around -1748,-26,-294 . The scarecrows will always scale to your level!
- Return to Professor Heribert in Windstalker Village ( -1924, -36, -610 )
The professor will now offer you the Scary Scarecrows quest.

I found Professor Heribert like Ponchy suggested. The Professor believes that decay of the fields may be tied to something that happened when the farm house was burned down. I need to return to the McQuibble Farm in Antonica and attempt to figure out what exactly happened.
I went to the McQuibble Farm at night and observed a strange communion of animated scarecrows. They set one on fire and danced around their flaming friend! I returned to the Professor to tell him what I saw.
I found the old hermit Shanty, he gave me a lot of useful information on animated scarecrows. Unfortunately, when I returned to him he was dead and surrounded by hay bales.
I have spoken with the Professor. He suggested that I attempt to question the McQuibbles again with the new information I have uncovered. The search for the truth must continue!I have not yet gotten to the bottom of what is happening at the McQuibble Farm. If I wish to continue pursuing this mystery I must see what Professor Heribert thinks is the next step.
Stage 1
