You may finish this quest series at the appropriate crafting level, but if you cannot gain the faction (requires killing) to purchase the molds to make the Magma armor, you won't be able to make any (except for the ONE piece you make upon completing the quest series, and you receive your mold as a reward). IF you can find someone that CAN purchase the molds, then at least you can Commission craft the armor, which IS tradeable.

Smakametta finally agrees to tell you about the special Sootfoot magma armor. He sends you to collect magma samples from the nearby lava pools.
GU68 removed the need for a minimum fishing skill. To get these you must get near the edge of the pools, being careful not to fall in, and fish from the dense magma nodes within them.
When you have 10 samples return to him and he will give you his recipe and a magma armor mold.
You can now return to Purrla and finish the Crafty Sootfoots quest series which will give you the recipe book to allow you to make the sootfoot magma armor yourself.
