The Dusty Blue Stone  

Here is a rundown of the prerequisites to get the "Restoring Ghoulbane" quest.

- Complete "Vida Needs a New Broom" (http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.h...q2quest=229)
* You receive a dusty blue stone (tradable)
- Examine the dusty blue stone to get the Dusty Blue Stone quest (http://eq2.allakhazam.com/db/quest.h...q2quest=753)
* Talk to Gruffin in Graystone Yard to progress the quest
* Mine 40 Sunswept Stones from Windswept Rocks in Thundering Steppes
* Talk to Gruffin to progress the quest
* Talk to Aristide Calais South Qeynos mage tower (use the red portal) and pickup ore delivery
* Talk to Olden Highguard in Thundering Steppes, delivering ore, to progress the quest
* Talk to Aristide Calais South Qeynos mage tower (use the red portal) to progress the quest
* Talk to Toranim Skyblade in the Temple of Life in North Qeynos
* Kill 25 undead in Stormhold to progress the quest
* Talk to Toranim Skyblade, completing this quest
- Get the Restoring Ghoulbane quest

At this point, you have the actual Restoring Ghoulbane quest.

This quest can be done with a Freeport faction character. Just use the Peat Bog, enter the Vermin's Snye, and they Down Below, and use the entrance to South Qeynos for the mage tower, or North Freeport the Temple of Life. The guards don't wander near the sewer entrances, so just make sure you stay aware of the patrols and gate areas, and keep your distance from the guards. I advanced both steps myself without being smuggled in on my 35 ShadowKnight. Also, you can kill any standard undead in Stormhold to update your undead count, grey or not. I am just working down on the third level so I can get the sword drop for the upgrade to the Bone Bladed Claymore...

everything is accurate up to the killing the undead part... when i got that part of the quest i had to kill 29 strong undead from the lower areas of stormhold, i tried some of the others closer to the entrance and it didnt work.... named undead didnt work either... mostly the zombies and skeletons on your way to the entrance to the library will work.

There is no need to 'sneak' into The Temple of Life in NQ for Freeportians.. Antonica Harbour -=> Willow Wood -=> Elddar Grove -=> NQ -=> Turn right and bam, the stairs to go down to the Temple of Life.. why make it harder?

Had no trouble finding Olden Highguard at the loc given

That Olden Highguard is nowhere to be found in the vicinity of Thundermist Village.

OK for you evil folk out there, I just soloed this with my 28 necro. Here's the way that worked for me.... (One warning though, I have invis and used it all the way up to the NPCs in all cases, I believe citizens will yell for help if they see you. Guards see through sneak/invis, but the citizens did not at least in my experience. This might well be worth the price of a chameleon totem)

Graystone Yard - Simply took the zone in from the down below and was able to walk around on the ledge to the right of the guard. There was no aggro on the way. Returned out the same way.

SQ - When I zoned in, I took Coach's suggestion and walked behind the stable (it's the building next to where you zone in though, you do not zone into a building) From there I was able to watch for the guard on horseback to make a pass to the Antonica door and back, then snuck across (straight shot) to behind the buildings on the south of the zone) - Then I walked straight across behind buildings to the last (westernmost) passage back to the road. This one is between the poison shop and 17 Tranquil Way. I stayed behind the building until the captain rode by and waited 25 seconds longer, then checked for the wandering trio of guards and was able to make it nonstop crossing through the hole in the wall and across the moat to the SQ mage tower. If you have a Q sider to help you, have them watch for the trio of guards and let you know when the captain is past the west end. You have about 45-60 seconds to get across (plenty of time) as long as the trio isn't nearby.

Now for NQ. I'd imagine it's possible without help, but it was much easier with help. I had a friend watching for guards when I zoned in. You can just make basically a straight line (along the buildings) to Mervin pausing as needed for guards (give them a wide berth and you should be fine) and from there almost straight across again to the priest area. One of the captains (70^^^ Epic X 4) does patrol all the way down into the priest area. I had to actually run along the wall past Toranim to make sure I stayed out of aggro. Same thing in reverse.

Good luck. Hope these tips help. Essentially, stay out of aggro range and if you're invis you should have no problems. This was far easier than I had hoped. I did die a few times figuring it out and testing the aggro range (just stay well away from guards)

Just a minor correction that the quest is now called "The Dusty Blue Stone". Rather than "Dusty Blue Stone", for all those who couldn't find it on search.

If you have deleted your starter stone, go back and talk to Vida, she will offer you another if you have already completed "Vida needs a New Broom" quest.

toranim no longer seems to give the weapon rewards upon completion. he only offers the 'restoring ghoulbane' quest.

As an evil player, I was able to sprint past the stationary guard and start conversation with Gruffin. Quickly clicked thru the conversation and sprinted back to the sewers. The guard stood next to me during the conversation and did not kick me out.

Probably just lucky.

Ok guys....after 2hrs I figured this out. You HAVE to run behind the building that you zone into, once you come from the sewers to SQ. At the first chance u get to take a "RIGHT" you need to take a right, and run between the buildings to the road that takes you to the wall. Go through the opening in the wall and swim across the water to the mage tower. Run into the "Red Portal" and the NPC u need to talk to is down below under the stairs.
