He's on the bottom level, but the easiest way is by jumping down the well from the top level. Then you should land right on top of him if he's up!

The bells MIGHT spawn them... but they can spawn on their own too... i've been camping them all day.. rang the bells at least 5 times each... sometimes i would get a spawn, other times nothing....maybe this is a recent change
I agree. I had the Scion of Destruction spawn while not being able to pull the bells. I ran through the atrium, nothing was there, ran up top, couldn't pull bells. Goofed off getting collections, checked bells, still couldn't pull them. Ran down for the atrium collection, and the scion of destruction was there. This was over a span of about 5-10 minutes.
Now if only the chessboard one would pop! /grumble

Been trying to get the fourth scion downstairs before the library grate for at least a month. Went into Stormhold yesterday, pulled all 4 bells, nothing happened. Went there today, and the scion was just sitting there. Go figure. I know for sure that if you pull the bell and the ground shakes, it immediately spawns the scion every time. the trick is to go kill it before someone else does.

I just ran this quest, start to finish, in about 15 minutes.
8 pulls on each bell in 5 days. 0 Scions spawned.
10 pulls each in 6 days. same result.

The field "Starting Zone" contains the loc-numbers. Now this quest is not visible by enter all quests under "Stormhold". Please delete the loc-numbers there.

The correspondence between ringers and Scions listed in the description is incorrect. I've spent some late nights in Stormhold and have been able to confirm this personally.
Northwest ringer: Suffering (down the well)
Northeast ringer: Destruction (in the atrium)
Southwest ringer: Darkness (on the chessboard)
Southeast ringer: Pain (outside the library grate)
This is the same correspondence as given on the EQ2Map interface.
As far as spawning them, things are more complicated than they used to be. If you pull a ringer, and the ground shakes, then the corresponding Scion has been spawned and is waiting for you. This method still works and is reliable.
However, this is not the only way that the Scions spawn. Scions have also shown up long after a bell pull when I received the 'nothing happens' message. No one else had pulled the ringer because my name was still up, but they definitely did not spawn immediately because I had checked then. They may simply be on a timer that's not related to the 'nothing happens' events, or they may have a chance of spawning after some delay.

The ringers take between 1.5 and 2 hours to repop.... i a very bored person who camped them. Not sure why the times vary.

An addendum to my last post... after I killed Tumarinan and the bottom of the well and the other two scions already dead I headed back to the entrace. The last bell-pull was pullable and ,logically, I headed down to the library. Withing 5 minutes Qelinatis spawned in the room with the library grate.
Possible coincidence, but to me it's not. =) Off to camp the library bell-pull. Good luck!

This quest works as far as I'm concered. If the bell tabs are pullable, then you can pretty much guarantee a spawn of their corrosponding scions within an hour or so. It's not immediate. One night I was able to pull the bell stops for all but the scion at the library entrance (that one didn't respawn for me that night).

Lastly, I killed Tumarinan at the bottom of the well. The only mob yet to spawn is the one at the library zone... if this is correct then it won't spawn until the bell-stop is pullable again... and then after that for at most an hour.

I think this has changed recently as i have sat religously in front of the bell for the last 4 nights, trying to ring for the chessboard scion. at least twice i have had the death message from the scion when i know the bell hasnt been rung my me and the name on the bell hasnt changed to anyone else. Tonight all the scions seemed to be there at once - only i found this out by the zone death messages. Ive only had 'nothing happens when you reing the bell' all night. Nothing was on track and i checked the chessboard before i started so it wasnt there. Its really annoying me now.

Ringing the bells doesnt always make a Scion pop. Sometimes/often it says "You ring the bell but nothing happens". Then you have to wait for the bell to be clickable again.
One time I was able to pull all four bells and three of them did not make a Scion pop.
And to those that complain about the reward of this quest, the drops from the Scions makes up for it. They drop both legendary and master chests.

Doh! The Scion of Pain that haunts the sort of "chapel" where the floor grate leading to the Library is located spawns BEHIND the piece of statury in the far center of the room. In a sort of bowl depression... hope this helps those that don't have aggro in the place.

I've seen scion pop up in Atrium without me even trying.
The only bell I could ring was 2nd left. Went to checkboard, down well and nothing. Went to spot near library and atrium and still nothing.
Then I went to go check the chess board again and the game locked up with a Direct X error.

I can confirm that the lion heads still spawn the scions, and the list posted before about the which/where is correct.

I was hunting these last night and came across two of them. I can confirm that no one pulled the lionheads to spawn them so I wonder if SOE changed how the scions spawn? Has anyone else encountered this?

This quest is no longer and EPIC quest. The scions are no longer EPIC encounters. SOE has cow-toed to the whiners and nerfed yet another fun challenge. The reward wasn't really to scale with the quest, but not everyone does quests for the rewards.

I happened upon two of the scions the other night, however, so someone else must have made them spawn but lost the opportunity to me. I'm a level 32 monk and was able to kill both the scion in the chessboard room and the scion in the atrium by myself. The one in the atrium dropped a chest with a master spell scroll and a shield, while the one in the chessboard room dropped a chest with an adeptIII scroll.

I agree to the fact that this quest really isn't worth anyone's time nor effort. I really think SoE just put this quest in for the lower levels to learn that Everquest 2 really is Evercamp 2, and give them a small practice at mini-raiding.
For those that really just want to kill the mobs for the fame of killing them, selling the item on the broker, and/or giving the item to an alt or lower level friend, here is something that could help most of you out:
I confirm the fact that the lionheads near the front of the zone spawn the Scions. There is about a 1/90 chance you will spawn a Scion everytime you pull the bell. Once pulled, the lionhead will have a "So-and-so was here."
If a Scion spawns on the pull, the Scion will stay up for around 30 minutes to an hour; maybe more. Heh, none of them have really been up long enough for me to find out!
(This is here an approximation; I have not timed it, but it is a close guess from what I know.) Also, the lionheads to have a timer on them. If a Scion spawns on the pull, there will be a 3 hour timer on THAT lionhead. If a Scion does not spawn on the pull, there is usually a 15 minute to 1 hour timer on the pull depending on how close it is to spawning a Scion; 15 minutes not being close, 1 hour being close to a spawn.
I hope this will help some of you out.

To comment on this... only one of the scions spawns in an area with leeches... Archiovianix the Scion of Darkness. Hephinntari and Tumarinan spawn in areas devoid of mobs, while Qelinatias spawns in an area with fungus and undead.
Basically, you just have to get lucky and grab one of the lion's heads while it's active. The best thing SOE could do is make it so that only people on the quest can activate the heads, IMO.

Agreed with Hraust Geysa to some degree.
I have been doing this quest for a long time, pulling the bells every time I could. Never have I gotten one of the Scions to spawn. And the bells seem to take a while to become active again.
The reward as shown above is poor for the work involved with this one. Delete this quest, it is truly not worth your time.

Typical SOE and an example of why people are leaving for WoW.
You spend hours waiting for the opportunity to spawn mobs. Then, when you do get your chance to spawn them, it is not guaranteed. So, you sit around staring at a wall so that someone walking by does not steal your chance.
Plus, the mobs you must kill are all ^^^ Group 2x mobs. So you can get a small raid of people to wait around for hours or just wait until the mobs are grey to you (and worth no exp) and solo them for an item that you will not even use.
SOE needs to up the exp reward on these types of quests or no one but the curious will do them once they turn grey. At a minimum, your chance to spawn the mobs should be guaranteed.

According to the message scrawled on the ruined Altar of Karana, it seems the former knights had encountered some "Scions" that may have had something to do with their downfall. The scrawl hinted that the Lion Heads will guide the courageous. Perhaps I should investigate what that meant.
I have destroyed the Unearthed Scions and now have their cores of corruption on my person.

This quest is initiated by examining the Ruined Altar of Karana at -17.7, 14.53, -126.06 in Stormhold. This is up the steps in the room with the various intersections, not far from entrance.
You must kill the four scions of Stormhold:
- Qelinatias the Scion of Pain - Located in the room that leads to the library
- Archiovianix the Scion of Darkness - Chessboard
- Tumarinan the Scion of Suffering - Bottom of the Well (29, -49, 12)
- Hephinntari the Scion of Destruction - Located in The Atrium (-66.66, -24.08, -91.35)
You can spawn the scions by interacting with the four lion heads (old bell ringers) in the zone at -22.99, 7.50, -25.04. Each head will spawn a scion. These will be marked after you pull them so you will only be able to pull each one every 1.5 to 2 hours.
Order going from north to south, starting at the northern left bell ringer then going to the northern east bell ringer followed by the southern left bell ringer then finally the southern right bell ringer.
- Northwest Bell, at -19.65, 7.50, -37.58 , will spawn Qelinatias the Scion of Pain at -6.82, -25.30, -120.96
- Northeast Bell, at -26.35, 7.50, -37.59 ,, will spawn Hephinntari the Scion of Destruction on the Chessboard
- Southwest Bell, at -19.75, 7.50, -14.09 will spawn Tumarinan the Scion of Suffering at 29.03, -51.26, 12.44
- Southeast Bell, at -26.35, 7.50, -13.89 , will spawn Archiovianix the Scion of Darkness at 73.65, 4.27, -96.73
After obtaining all four you must place their cores upon the Altar of Karana for your reward.
