Quartermaster Girator and Raider Captain Xerag spawned AFTER I destroyed ALL the supply crates. Each one dropped the Ancient Splitpaw Leather Skullcap. The Captain was one level above me and the Quartermaster was one level plus ^^^*. Both were fairly easy kills.
tried this multiple times tonight and every time I blow a barrel my invis pops, no matter how far away I get from said barrel. then i get about 20 heroic ^^^ gnolls on my **** :(

Easy way to take out Quartermaster: get yourself a stack of the exploding barrels (3 at a minimum). use Invis and to sneak over and place the barrels right next to him. Pop smoke and get clear of the blast. Collect your loot.

The quest was easy....on the way back i ran into the quartermaster..He was hitting me for 200-390 a shot..oh, im a 39 coercer BTW. Anyway, magic wasent holding him and i could not go toe-to-toe with him so i ran.. I then cast invis on myself, picked up one of those exploding barrels and lit him up. only took one to kill him. Maybe this will help someone

Played as lev 39 wiz, and whilst Invis destroyed all crates without aggro; no sign of a quatermaster

I did the normal solo version of this quest and noted the following:
- a couple of wandering gnolls do respawn but most encounters do not. The wanderers that respawn are not hard, but a bit tedious if you meet them at the wrong time.
- the route is : entrance chamber - down into chamber 1 (no crates) - right and down then up into chamber 2 - (3 crates visible and one hidden behind a wall) - down (past one crate behind a wall) into third chamber - 5 crates.
- after I completed each crate, or two, I backtracked and killed any spawns behind me.
- after the final crate I went for a look around and the quatermaster (Quartermaster Girtor) was in the centre of chamber 1. Killed him and continued exploring.
- the heroic version of the quest is over the small wall (2 crates to climb it) at the end of chamber 1 ... I didn't try it!
- at 41 on the normal setting most gnolls were also 41 - occasional pairs with a normal and 1 v - the Quatermaster was onlt 42 and not difficult, after doing the upper tunnels on 'very difficult a few times'.

Did this quest tonight. I blew up 10 crates, then the journal updated and quest was gone. Didnt see any quartermaster spawn.

Do the Gnoll's Respawn once killed, like have a timer like regular monsters do to respawn?

In reply to the previous poster, killing the quartermaster is not required. I dinged my completion of gaining trust as soon as the 10th box was blown up.

They removed the coin reward a few patches back because it was being exploited. In the same patch, they removed the ability to blow a few crates, zone, and repeat by removing the quest from your journal when you zone out.
Should be noted that if you are doing the quest to gain favor with the gnolls for your glowing shard, you need to kill the Quartermaster.

I did this quest 3 times with my husband and we got experience for completing it..but never got any coin

This zone also can be done with groups. Then choose the heroic mobs to kill and the crates there to destroy ;)

Quartermaster is one level above player and has usually one ^. He dropped a chest everytime I tried so far. I think he spawns after destroying 10 crates.

2 crates are hidden behind walls. One is to the right in the second chamber and the other is in the corridor between 2 & 3rd chamber.
You'll need at least 12 barrels to do this in one shot but there are plenty enough to save a few for any higher groups or ^^ which can come in handy with the spawn near the entrance zone that pops.

when doing this quest there was a difference in reward depending on your lvl.

If you have invis, this is very easy... Detonate near the supplies and run as far as you can from the barrel and gnolls. Most of the time it will not drop invis. If there are too many gnolls, blow them up with the barrels. If you lack invis, you can just take out the two or three easy crates and zone out, wait the 11 minutes lock out and zone back in since they all count.

After I finished blowing up all 10 crates. I went back towards the entrance and Quartermaster Girtor was there waiting. He was even with me in levels since I dinged while in the zone, so may be 1 lvl above group average or solo person's lvl. But he didnt have any up arrows. He dropped the ancient splitpaw leather skullcap

He asks you to head into The Hideout -84.25, -73.70, -160.02 , which is adjacent to the Splitpaw Den, and destroy 10 gnoll supply crates. To do this you must move a barrel next to the supply crate and then detonate it.
Most of these crates are guarded by gnolls, but some are not. Players who can invis or stealth can sneak around and get some of these with no combat involved.
The reward is experience and fulfilling one of the requirements of the Darkened Shard quest.

I have been asked to destroy the supplies in the gnoll hangout for Flitch. The hangout according to these directions, is nearby the firepit where Sarchel tells his stories. Perhaps you can find some tools to help you with your task in the hideout.
The exploding barrel completely destroyed the supplies.I have destroyed the gnoll supplies, preventing them from causing any more mischief.
