I ran into the same issue just now. I ended up having to enter the hut where he's supposed to be, do a "/target Varick". Once I had him targeted, I did a "/hail". That caused him to move and "update" himself, and he became visible in his usual spot inside the hut. (I've actually had to do that procedure with a couple mobs in other zones too).
