Midsummer Festival - Currently Known Issues

There have been some reports of bugs and various other issues with the new Midsummer Festival in World of Warcraft. A recent post by Syndri over at the O-boards confirms that they are aware of the problems and are working on a fix for players.

Here is the post in its entirety but you can follow the thread as it progresses here.

Greetings!

While the Midsummer Fire Festival event has begun, we wanted to take some time to explain that there are some currently known issues with the Festival, and to let the community know that we are working on resolving them.

The first issue, and what seems to be the most prevalent reported issue, is regarding gaining Fire Blossoms from fire quests that were completed last year. This affects the Honor the Fires and Desecrate the Fires quests, as they appear to have not reset from last year. We understand the concerns many players have about being able to obtain enough blossoms for this year to buy what they wish, and we are actively working on the issue.

Second, there have been many reports that the quest “Unusual Activity” has not reset from last year. This is being investigated by development.

In addition, we have had many players report that Crown of the Fire Festival from last year is not granting achievement credit for King of the Fire Festival. This appears to be a result of the quest not having been completed while the achievement system was live (as last Midsummer was before the achievement system was implemented). If it were to grant retroactive achievement for King of the Fire Festival, it would have been granted upon launch of the achievement system.

While we do apologize for any frustration, we want to actively assure the community that we are working on resolving these issues, and any others that may appear. We will update this post with information as we get it.

Capital Flames

I sole all the flames and turned their quests in, the quest did not appear for me. Any ideas?

I also re-stole a couple flames, but it said I had already completed the quest.
I also made a ticket, hopefully it will be fixed in today's maintenance. I don't mind restarting Kalimdor, completed the other areas, but I really don't want to have to re-steal all the capital flames.

To play devil's advocate here. If they(Blizzard) keep upping the gear to the level cap, it keeps people who are new to the game from ever experiencing the festival for the first time if they aren't at the level cap.

Besides, it's still a pain to capture all the opposite factions fires, because the guards have all been upgraded. Especially if you can't stealth. (go go corpse runs FTW)

I have 5 toons at 80 and several in the 70s so the 70s will get some benefit out of Ahune, can even use the gear. My 80s do it because it's a quirky break from the rep grind/raid scene.

My druid finally got all the clothes, so I'm dressed for the season. It took me 2 years to do it to. (too many alts)

I think some of the achievements should be upgraded and updated. Have an achievement for everyone of any level in each event, but make it so that only the high level toons are capable of getting the meta. That way everyone gets to participate, but not everyone gets the big prize at the end. Getting the opposite faction's fires from their capital cities, for example, is for the high level toons. Sadly, there's not much in this event for the lower levels to enjoy, except for the various buffs.

So what they are basically saying is...

"We've put absolutely no thought or work into this festival. Recycling old content. Flipped the switch. And now we're going to make all the fixes we should have done the weeks and months leading up to it."

I mean come on, they didn't even make a new Ahune for 80 players. If this is a sign of things to come look out anyone interested in doing Brewfest and Hallow's holidays. Its going to be a painful replay. Except this time around the gear that drops will be even more horrendously worthless than it was at level.

Come on, you can't be surprised by this. Look at all the expanding of the game, yet they never go back and revisit the old material.

I'd love a reason to grind Hydraxian Waterlords rep (or any old world rep) in a way that is still relevant to the game. I'd love for the gear you can get with Argent Dawn rep at lvl 58-60 be worth getting instead of players saying "I can get better than that in 10 minutes of Outland work, why bother?"

Sadly, Bliz does not give a damn about the past or how it fits into now. Hell, they couldn't even bother to add tabbards to help us with older reps.

There is a difference between Hydraxian Waterlords rep and the Midsummer Festival. This festival is meant in theory to be attractive and exciting to new players. They put up decorations all over the world. Including Dalaran. Its not like its merely an old facet of vanilla wow randomly playing out in Silithus. Its a World Event that encompasses the entire game. They went so far as making achievements for it.

I don't expect anything to happen with Old World content. But content that fits under "World Event" I would expect to at least be revisited minorly after an expansion so that it continues to be "World Event" and not "World Fail". All I really expected was a level 83 Ahune. Maybe some flame keeper's in northrend. At least they did that with the Elder's Festival.

This one? This one is just downright pathetic.

But it all still falls under the banner of "old content" and that is my point - that Bliz doesn't care about improving old content.

And if you want to talk about new players and making things exciting - well, I've known several new players and they get excited about doing old-world stuff until I tell them that they'll get better stuff in Outland / Northrend without having to grind rep for weeks on end for the old end-game stuff. Furthermore, if the old end-game stuff were updated to improved quality and easier to get ahold of, experienced players would be more apt to run their alts through classic sections of the game.

For example - the "In Dreams" quest line is one of THE best stories in the game. But since it takes place in the plaguelands, most people bypass it entirely just because there's no need to do a long difficult quest series for a reward that used to be great but is now sub-par. It's these quest lines and working rep with various factions that give you a history of the game and make it more than "hit thing in face, get xp, get loot, move on to next thing to hit in the face." These are usually the people spamming "how do I do this" in general when the answer is right there in the text of the quest they just accepted without reading. But with all the work Bliz put into crafting the backstory for the game, they should do something to encourage more people to experience it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hnq3xLllWQ 3R coming to mind ^^

And yep, I expected Ahune to be upped to 80. can't be that difficult. Now he's just a one-time visit for the achievement.

Only die-hard pet collectors, ppl who want the enchanting formula (which drops 100% on heroic I've been told) or ppl who want the scythe for style will visit him more than once. I hope they don't continue this BS with coren direbrew and the headless horseman. But then again, this IS blizzard we are talking about... *sigh*.

I'm really thinking of taking a few months off as soon as I got my violet-a-dime-a-dozen-protodrake...
