WoW Account Compensation

With all the ups and downs and stability issues since 3.1 launched Blizzard has decided to give every account active and in good standing one free day of play time.

More info and the original post after the jump.

World of Warcraft saw many new features and additions added to the game with the launch of our latest content patch, Secrets of Ulduar. While we anticipated extended downtime for this patch, the actual downtime exceeded our expectations and after they came online players have experienced long petition wait times. At this time, many of the issues that caused these problems have been addressed and resolved.

In light of these circumstances, all North American, Latin American, and Oceanic accounts that are active and in good standing will receive one free day of play time. This day of compensation should be applied and viewable in your account management page (www.worldofwarcraft.com/account) within the next 7 days. We thank you for your continued support of World of Warcraft and we’ll see you in game!

May not seem like much, but at a minimum of $12.99/30 times 10 million customers, this is going to cost Blizzard at least $4.3 million in revenue. That's a pretty big deal from a big-picture standpoint.

In a time of bailouts, it's nice to see a company paying for its own mistakes.

Seriously, this has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read.

How do you figure it's going to cost Blizzard $4.3 million in lost revenue?

No one pays day to day.

The probable way the free day will be applied to accounts, is adding it to the last day of an active account that has not been renewed. I highly doubt the majority of people who decide to not renew their accounts, and stop playing WoW, play it up to the very last day of the very last minute.

"It's my last day of my account being active. Oh wait! What's this! I have an extra day of playing? Sweet! Now I can do some Rep Dailies, put up those Lichbloom on the AH, farm Honor in Wintergrasp. Run a heroic to get that epic..........."

The giving of a WHOLE day of playing time is a simple gesture
made by Simple executives and in fact it's alot like Simple Interest.

BEATS NUTTIN but it isn't worth getting elated nor upset over.

When they give the one day, no one cares. When they don't give the day, the forums erupt in anger over how they are cheating their subscribers time.

I'm still waiting for that week or two free from that stupid zombie invasion :-p. So now we're up to two free days. I suppose in a couple of years it'll get paid back?

The zombie invasion wasn't the game being down, you just didn't like the event... And it was easily avoidable.

Oh please... you must not have been paying attention during that time.

Sure, it was avoidable... if you played as far out into the wilderness as possible and never went near a town. Want to go to a major city to train your class or professions? Forget it.

Oh, and if you were a low level toon, you were just screwed.. because all newb areas were infested by lvl 70's doing their best to grief everyone possible.

I found the beginning of the zombie event enjoyable, when I could choose whether or not to participate. Once participation became forced and I could no longer avoid it, it got to be a negative.

I doubt it because we didn't get the sort of down-time America had. Our servers were up and running much faster

I don't really see how that helps those who pay monthly subscriptions.... I get 50 cents back?! Cool for those on time cards though.

The only thing I can think of is that they move your billing date. If they even did it, BFD.
