Apparently the ScyFy prequel Krypton is not only still a thing, but has a character list for the series available. Jor-El's father, Seg-El, and his father Ter-El and his father Val-El are listed to show up, along with Lyta and Alura Zod, and a Dev-Em. Show is supposedly set two generations before Krypton went all exploded and landed mostly on Earth. Seriously, there was a lot of kryptonite of varying color and size showing up throughout the years.
I think they retconned that by saying that Superman's ship and whatever FTL method it used brought a ton of it with it. Which is kinda the only way you can explain how rocks from a planet that presumably exploded relatively recently could have gotten to Earth already instead of taking like thousands of years. Of course, that didn't prevent the folks writing Smallville from having Christopher Reeves play an astronomer who detected the explosion with what I can only assume was *not* a subspace telescope, and was somehow able to link it to the falling meteor rocks and to Clark's appearance on Earth. Which... um... has some problems (light speed isn't something you can suspend disbelief on, at least not for, you know... light).
I think they retconned that by saying that Superman's ship and whatever FTL method it used brought a ton of it with it.
Which brings up other issues. On the surface it makes sense, Jor-El knew that Earth's environment was going to turn his kid into basically a God so giving the humans a weapon to fight against him in case he went evil is a pretty good idea, but then you have the other color kryptonite. This scientist understood the Kryptonian well enough to know how it reacts to different color sunlight and possibly how rocks could combat it, but didn't know red makes Kal really really angry or pink makes him really really ... flamboyant? I guess you could argue that maybe the different color were human created synthetic so adverse reactions blah blah blah like Superman III but still. I guess my point is kryptonite is really weird.
Take it with a grain of salt since it is from one of the worst directors of cape movies that currently exists, but according to Zack Snyder their shortening Justice League from a two parter to a single movie won't really affect anything, and he even hinted at the possibile appearance of the 90s SuperMullet. Of course, he also said he was "caught off guard" over the reaction to Batman v Superman, which is pretty much impossible after Man of Steel.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to adapt a comic-that-isn't-even-created-yet "Son of Shaolin," which on the surface who knows, but I think I've officially found my line. Now they're using comics as movie pitches instead of using interesting comics to make movies about. Rumor about Dwayne is that Universal is in the market to get him to headline their attempt at a Univeral Shared Movieverse with him as the Wolf Man.
Yet another Spider-Man: Homecoming casting call, this time Michael Mando, who was Nacho in Better Call Saul.

Aaaand another one for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Fargo's Bokeem Woodbine. Maybe if they just announce everyone all at once instead of one or two a day this would stop feeling ridiculous. Gotham on the other hand brings James Carpinello from The Punisher as Carmine Falcone's son Mario, a "well respected Ivy League educated ER doctor." New Vixen for Legends of Tomorrow, Maisie Richardson-Sellers from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Steven Amell says the season premiere of his show will have the "most vicious, violent fight in network TV history." After the last two crappy Dark Knight Returns mob fights the bar isn't really all that high. Another mob of heavily armed and trained bloodthirsty mercenaries just running to punch a group of civilians? Woo. Or. OR. Or maybe it's all the cast and crew from all the seasons surprise Felicity and lynch her? That'd be worth watching.

Deadpool 2: Electric Boogaloo to start filming early 2017, which probably already makes it the most anticipated early 2018 movie so far. Also future talk, Kellan Lutz, once Hercules, claims to have been in talks to take over as Prince Adam in a possible Masters of the Universe reboot. Kind of hope Dolph Lundgren cameos in that one.

It's been a minute, but another one joins Spider-Man: Homecoming, this time Tyne Daly from Cagney & Lacey.
Not much going on this week apparently. SDCC is soon so they're holding as much as possible I imagine. Preacher has another thirteen episode second season for next year, where something might actually happen.

Next season Flash is bringing in oft remembered as Malfoy from Harry Potter I'm told Tom Felton as a regular named Julian Dorn, who is kind of a CSI rival for our time insensitive klutz Barry Allen who suspects there's something behind Barry's good guy reputation. Like a mind numbing ******. The cast train is back in full swing for Spider-Man: Homecoming, adding Tiffany Espensen and Garcelle Beauvais who your guess is as good as mine. Also apparently there's going to be at least a few scenes in Washington DC, so that's something different from the previous Spider-Movies ... besides the age, setting, and the massive number of actors.

I watched the first episode of Outcast. Started out pretty basic. Then around the end it had a small maybe-twist (at least, for the Exorcist type movies) which I can't say I've seen before. Guy's blood is somehow a demon repellent? Hard to tell exactly what they'll do. But you do get to see a grown man beat the shit out of a little possess kid. (Don't worry, the kids a boy, it's OK :P )
Watched the rest of what was available. Four episodes. I like it.
Instead of a Zombie Drama, he's given us an Exorcism Drama. Focuses a lot on the human interactions around this character. And Brent Spiner popped up as a regular character.
Outcast seems to have the same pacing of Walking Dead. Something happens one episode, nothing the next, repeat. I mean, it's not horrible or anything but it is a format that just works better to binge than watch weekly. I think it was the third episode with the prison guy and the married woman or whatever that got me really interested enough with the show to stick it with it.

Poor Arseface. From what I can gather so far, he deserved it though. We are made to feel sorry for him, but apparently something happened between him and the girl, and he tried to do a murder/suicide thing. Edit: That name was censored.
CW Series will begin streaming full on Netflix 8 days after their season finales. So a bit better than what it was before (which seemed to be always behind one season).
Houdini and Doyle is... done? Fox commercial said "Season Finale" but description said "Series Finale". It was disappointing. Had a few moments, but not enough to make it interesting. And like most Fox shows, it doesn't get a chance to grow. They gotta hit the ground running or Fox puts a bullet in their heads.
Aww, is it? I was kind of enjoying it, like it was an Olde Timey X-Files with the private detective from House. I mean, it's Fox so not exactly a surprise.

Apparently Simon Pegg and George Takei are having a disagreement over Sulu's sexual orientation in the next Star Trek movie, with Takei on the "don't change it" side that is generally reserved for those forty year olds who live in their mother's basements.

Wally's (probably alt-time line/dimension) costume revealed. The cowl looks weird with a crew cut, but overall not so bad. Classic Kid Flash costume. I kind of was hoping against hope that Wally's speed power involved his car, but that was a long shot to a long shot.

On one hand, Netflix's live action Death Note casts Agent Carter's (and Boardwalk Empire) Shea Whigham as Light Turner's (Nat Wolff) father, James. On the other hand; Turner? Florina Lima from "The Family" will be Captain Maggie Sawyer of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit in Supergirl Season 2.

If you haven't seen it yet, there is a new show on Netflix called Stranger Things.
Only 8 episodes, but it's good. 1980s SciFi feel to it. Story takes place in 1983. It gets pretty good, if a bit predictable (it plays on those nostalgic feelings, and classic tropes, but it's not bad). Better than the movie Super 8. It seems to draw a lot from Steven Spielberg and Stephen King. And those old "Amazing Stories" shorts.
I've enjoyed it more than Marco Polo season 2. Stopped watching the final episode of that and binged Stranger Things instead. I have one episode left on Stranger Things. I kind of hope the ending of the season doesn't disappoint and make me regret this positive review.
Edit: Finished the last episode. The ending wasn't bad. The rest of the series was better though. Not sure if it's trying to leave it open for a second season along the same storyline, or if it's going to go the route of say.. American Horror Story, and have another season be a separate story. I could see either.
Edit: Speaking of those old Sci Fi shows...
I remember one where there were, I think, soldiers, or armed men, watching a barrier, that appeared to be a one way mirror to another dimension. On the other side was a farm, with some Amish looking people. One soldier that was watching the barrier became infatuated with a young woman who would sit alone at the edge of the barrier.
Some things happen, and eventually the man decides that he wants to give up his soldierly life and go join her. So he crosses over. I think through a timed rift in the barrier that he discovered. But once he does, and approaches the girl, she looks at him and then her mouth opens to reveal some jagged teeth, and she proceeds to attack and eat him. I think others from his side had tried to stop him from crossing over.
The end shows the other Amish-monsters using one of the soldier's leg bones to periodically tap on the barrier (which they can't see through, but now know exists). Presumably waiting for the next time that the barrier would open up and allow them to travel to the place that the soldier came from.
I know it was one of those short story shows. I just can't remember which one.

Night Visions, "A View Through The Window."

I spent way too long laughing at that sequence. At least Jesse is finally hallucinating, though he's imaginating the completely wrong person, but it was something.
Finally got around to seeing the Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition. All the problems that were in the theatrical release are still pretty much there, but some of the added scenes help the pacing a bit so while the overall movie is longer it actually feels shorter. Pretty much Ben Affleck's second Daredevil. Kind of a watch on TV when nothing is left on DVR type movie.
Apparently there is going to be a new 80s era He-Man shown at SDCC this year. I kind of want to see that.
Benedict Samuel, who you may or probably don't know as Alpha Wolf from last season's Walking Dead cast as The Mad Hatter in Gotham. That should be neat.

Trailer for next season's Ash vs Evil Dead has arrived.
Netflix has ordered another season for The Devil of Hell's Kitchen to, let's be honest, no one's surprise. It's quality peaks and valleys pretty extremely, but there has been more highs than lows so of course it'll get another. I'm just kind of hoping it doesn't get too many. Most shows kind of lose steam and become crap after five seasons.
Defenders teaser trailer from SDCC. Expected to release around 2017.
And a teaser for Luke Cage, which comes out September 30.
There was also an Iron Fist teaser, though the video hasn't been released yet.
SDCC Iron Fist Teaser Description wrote:
The teaser opens with a flashback to Danny Rand's childhood; he is ripped away from his mother in a plane crash and lands in a snowdrift, still strapped to his seat. As he blacks out, he sees two monks dressed in yellow leaning over him before the screen fades to black.
The teaser then cuts to present day, where a bearded and bedraggled Danny Rand is strapped to a bed in what looks to be a mental hospital. He breaks out of his bonds, then manages to escape by delivering a punch so powerful that it blows a reinforced steel door off its hinges.
I think my favorite, maybe mostly because there isn't really any video of it so I can imagine the best case scenario.NETFLIX LATIN AMERICA AL RESCATE!
Defenders official logo image, and Iron Fist official logo image. I still say it should be "Heroes for Hire" instead of Defenders. I guess that's not so bad, being my second biggest complaint about the Netflix line. Oh, and Elektra was kind of a let down. Besides that, all's well.
Some more miscelanious notes, CBS is trying to get Richard Dean Anderson for their MacGyver reboot, which could be neat. MTV's Teen Wolf to end on Season 6, which sounds like eight seasons too long. Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD has apparently started filming, and people are still pressing the "Ghost Rider" rumor, after the fiery chain images continue to circulate. Still almost 100% certain it is last season's Aussie Gambit getting a more centralize role.

I've kind of given up on Hunters, Wynonna Earp (actually only watched about 3 or 4 of those), and Wayward Pines.
I've got them still recording, but am about 6 or 7 episodes behind on each and can't bring myself to watch them with other stuff that's occupying my time.
I've kind of given up on Hunters, Wynonna Earp (actually only watched about 3 or 4 of those), and Wayward Pines.
I had to give up on Earp as well. It just wasn't all that interesting. Never really gave Hunters a chance, so I don't even know anything about it and if we're being honest I wanted to watch Wayward Pines but it completely slipped my mind and I ended up missing it and haven't tried to really find it either.

GUESS I WAS WRONG.
They also showed his '69 Charger, but that's the wrong skull in the teaser, so in my defense Robbie Reyes doesn't use a fiery chain as a weapon. Oh, I guess I should add that it was Gabriel Luna, Paco Contreras from Wicked City, cast as Robbie, and that I'm hoping that this is more in relation to Dr Strange than Inhumans. Please don't make Ghost Rider an Inhuman. Please oh please oh please.
Oh, while I'm editing, Cyborg from Teen Titans, Khary Payton, is Ezekiel on the next season of Walking Dead. Booya. Also Rihanna in the upcoming final season of Bates Motel. Sad to see that go, but it wasn't like it could go very much longer without becoming paradoxical.
First Wonder Woman trailer. Has a neat electric cello version of her theme from Batman v Superman. The action scenes at the minute and a half mark look pretty good, the scene at the last two to five seconds is kind of heavy handed, but doesn't really take too much from it.
First look at the whole Justice League. Flash looks horrible. Just way too tech. I'm actually quite disappointed in that. I'm still not particularly fond of Gal Gadot, but next to that Flash ... kind of like when a mediocre person stands next to a horribly disfigured person.

I was looking at some pictures of Captain Jack Harkness cosplaying as Harley Quinn, Squirrel Girl, and Zapp Brannigan. And noticed a lot of copy/pasta hate talk about the Killing Joke panel. Apparently something about a "blood boiling" plot point added to the show, a typical "male fantasy" about a certain character... Very little info to go on in the things these people always just copy and paste to their statuses, but I didn't bother clicking on the links cause I try not to feed those click bait things.
I assume it had to do with Barbara, Joker, and the happenings around the time the pictures were taken. Anything that generates that much faux-outrage on social media must be good news for the movie. Edit: So, it's actually something to do with a sex scene between Batman and Batgirl.
Also, Hulk's Gladiator outfit. Looking forward to seeing some Thor and Hulk action in a Colosseum. I wonder if they are going to do anything with Hulk and Mjolnir. I think Bruce sat out of the little competition in Age of Ultron. Would be fun to see him do some Hammer-Time stuff.
and extra special bonus video of the CC Justice League trailer:
Dr. Strange looks awesome, Justice League only marginally interesting. I find it a bit odd that Bruce is basically outing that he's Batman to people before they even decide to join the team.

Apparently they're going to use some elements from the Planet Hulk storyline, which is great since it's one of Hulk's better storylines. Though being a Thor story I doubt they'll really get into it. It's shaping up nicely though, and my only real concern is that the other two movies were pretty meh.
SDCC was busy.
First, Marvel Studio's next intro logo. I think it's too busy.
Gotham S2 highlight reel, plus a little teaser from S3
Arrow got one.
Flash got a teaser as well.
Lucifer highlight reel, also some clips from the second season.
Preacher has a season 2 trailer as well, but apparently it is filled with spoilers from the season finale, which doesn't air until next week so I haven't watched it yet. Just the little youtube image is of the trio in a car, so I can guess what is going on as far as that. FX's Legion gets a trailer as well.
Over in Black Panther, Michael B Jordon's role has been confirmed as Erik Killmonger, an often appearing villain who wants to return Wakanda great again back to its ancient ways. Lupita Nyong'o was (alledgedly) also revealed to be playing Nakia, who appeared in the books as T'Challa's potential wife and eventually Malice, a body stealing villain. Also weighing in is Danai Gurira, Michonne from Walking Dead, who will portray Okoye, one of T'Challa's Dora Milaje, which is like the Wakandan Secret Service.
Brie Larson has been named Captain Marvel, and going to appear in both the next Avengers movies and her own solo flick. All I know her from is as Envy Adams in Scott Pilgram.
Arrow's Katie Cassidy, Black Canary, finalized the paperwork to regularly appear across all the CW shows.
Spider-Man: Homecoming tells us that Tony Revolori will be Flash Thompson, and Laura Harrier and Jacob and Batalon are "Liz and Ned," presumably Liz Allen and Ned Leeds.
Kurt Russel's role in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 has been confirmed as Star Lord's father (no surprise), Ego ... who in the comics is a giant sentient purple planet with a beard (some surprise. Lots of some surprise). That's kind of out of left field, gonna be a strange story trying to explain how a planet impregnated a woman. Also, Elizabeth Debicki confirmed as Ayesha/Kismet/Female Adam Warlock which is less out of left field. Also in this stadium, Sylvester Stallone is in the movie and is "interacting with Yondu" in the teaser.
Spoken of Dr Strange, apparently Benjamin Bratt's, the Latino detectives in Law & Order, name shows up on the Dr Strange movie poster, so that's something. His actual role, other than being in the movie and being important enough to show up on the poster, is unknown at the moment.
In DC's Legends of Tomorrow, the Justice Society of MURKA's Hourman, Vixen, and Commander Steel will be joined by Doctor Mid-Nite, Stargirl, and Obsidian, though none have been cast yet. Obsidian is the son of the golden age's Green Lantern and has shadow powers, Doctor Mid-Nite can see in the dark and uses bombs to blind foes (lowers that budget, don'it?), and Stargirl can manipulate energy. At least as far as a quick wiki search found.
As a final aside, I saw "Concussion" over the weekend, and it reminded me that Will Smith really has come a long way from his days at the beginning of Fresh Prince to becoming an actual good actor. He just can't do accents to save his life. He sounds like a white guy trying to do an African accent throughout the movie. Anyway, I say that to say that that might have been the push to convince me to possibly see Suicide Squad in the theaters. There's still issues with Juggalos Joker and Harley that rub me the wrong way, but I'm about 40:60 at this point on that.

Wonder Woman and Justice League actually look like a couple DC movies I'd be willing to sit through. Suicide Squad as well so DC is certainly looking better to me than it has in ages.
I'm not "excited" as such but I'm not actively against the idea of spending time and money on them either versus the Superman films, etc.
Jed Whedon, not to be confused with Joss, says that going forward Agents of SHIELD can use the classic Inhumans, which could be neat. Problem is that he and Maurissa Tancharoen say that they're still going with the "magic is science" angle with Ghost Rider. In fact, Tancharoen says "[How to blend these subjects] is exactly what our team may be asking as they encounter something like Ghost Rider. We'll basically be trying to science why." Which is horrible, since Ghost Rider's entire story is pretty much 100% supernatural, to the point it uses satanism as major plot points. Robbie's whole backstory is that he's possessed by a satanist. Ghost Rider's major themes tend to be about dealing with worst case scenarios and internal conflicts. I mean, I thought making him an Inhuman was the worst thing they could do for the character, but apparently I was wrong about that as well.
Seriously, we got Dr Strange on the horizon. No need to hide from this stuff. Embrace it.
Jophiel wrote:

The thing is the Justice League movie is more or less all the same players that went into making those Superman films what they were. Zack Snyder is still directing, which is pretty much what's keeping me wary.
