Holy crap someone else posted here I kind of wonder what the hurdle was. Did Tatum want to do more Gambit movies or less? Kind of imagine more, since it's free money and he's seemed pretty excited about the role in the first place. Since Huge Actman is departing, the franchise needs a new figurehead to get unrealistically focused on.

If anyone was interested in the long-in-production The Crow remake, you might have to wait even longer because apparently the company making it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and the production team leaving the project, as well as several other department heads.

Deadpool Sneak Preview Clip. First trailer expected to be shown on Conan on Tuesday, or Wednesday here. I'm betting it lacks the whole topographical map of Utah bit.

"From the studio that inexplicably sewed his fucking mouth shut the first time." Heh, I chuckled.

Welp, we're two to three days out from Fant4stic, so here's the extended trailer, with a guest appearance at the end that has next to nothing with the actual movie. With that, the summer season is essentially over.

Which means the tv season should be kicking off soon, so let's start with Sleepy Hollow.
TV Guide wrote:
“There won’t be any Headless this year,” Clifton Campbell, who replaced Mark Goffman as “Sleepy Hollow’s” showrunner, tells TV Guide. “But we have a new framework and a new set of rules for the mythology. And it all starts with the introduction of our new big bad and will take us into a very interesting device which will allow us to see a somewhat more compelling, but more personal threat to both Abbie [Nicole Beharie] and Crane [Tom Mison].”
That seems weird.

Carter Hall cast as Hawkman for, ultimately Legends of Tomorrow, but shall be showing up for Flash and Arrow. Similarly, Capser Crump cast as Vandal Savage.

I don't think Grimm comes back until October and since I got rid of cable that's the only show I'm planning on trying to watch as it comes out. Well, excluding anime.

It's mostly CW, Fox, and ABC for this stuff. Which, speaking of CW, their site is showing the original Flash 90s TV show for free, so if you missed it the first time then here's your chance. The Trickster episode with Mark Hamill is especially worth your time. Varying degrees of quality and camp here.

Well, I was wrong. This was some of what they showed at San Diego Comi-Con a few weeks ago. There's about a minute, minute and a half half a minute missing (my sense of timing is off at the moment). Mostly of Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead talking. Nice to see it in better quality than a hidden cell phone recording. I still find the swearing overwhelmingly distracting.

The review embargo for Fantastic Four is up. I don't usually put much stock into the numbers, but dang. They're ... they're quite low.

You're starting with a franchise that has just never done well (or been done well, the previous being far and away the best). And instead of "let's find a way to do the original concept well", they chose "let's revamp the characters into whole new, younger, edgier versions of themselves, while completely changing their origin and relationships". FF has always been on the edge of interesting to me anyway, and nothing I've seen of this remake so far makes this anything other than several steps below that. I would honestly love to be surprised and have it turn out to be outstanding. I'm just not putting much hope in that.

It just looks awful.

Anecdotally, and I guess we'll know once Turin sees it and tells us, but from what I've read even the stuff that's been shown isn't even in the movie. The scene in the trailer where Ben is dropped from a helicopter is (allegedly) missing from the final product, and the scene where Ben is using a tank's turret as a baseball bat has been reduced to just an image on a television screen instead of an actual scene. Like I said, I generally don't pay much attention to the numbers or reviews, but as of this morning it's Rotten Tomatoes score has hit 8%. Fantastic Four's main point is how they're a family, and I don't think you can really do that in the space of two hours. They'd work much better as a weekly Lost in Space type show.

In other pseudo-news, Keiynan Lonsdale, known for Insurgent, Dance Academy and Razzle Dazzle, has been cast as Wally West for the next season of The Flash. I've ... I've only heard of one of those, but season one was good so benefit of the doubt.

Continuing the disaster that is Fant4stic, Trank blames studio meddling while the Fox producers put distance between the movie and the X-Men franchise by insisting they don't exist in the same world, squashing rumors of possible crossovers. Sure can't wait for that F4 sequel. As far as that other world, Rebecca Ferguson, Lea Seydoux, and Abbey Lee in the run for the lead female role for the upcoming Gambit movie.

In other news, clickbait about Batman. If it turns out to be true, sounds to me like they're going for the full Wolverine & The X-Men treatment instead of Avengers. Which, hey, maybe it'll work for them. Next up would be Agent Carter Season 2 seems to have decided on the villain, who is going to be Madame Masque. Which ... I kind of thought we had a Madame Masque with Agents of SHIELD.

Also JJJ was right.

Arrow adds Rutina Wesley, from True Blood and Hannibal, and Parker Young from Suburgatory. Young is being described as "original love interest for Thea "Speedy" Queen, which is great. Because if there's anything Arrow needs, it is more love interests.

Fantastic 4% brought in roughly $26m over the weekend, just shy of it's projected $40m, and is sitting around 8~9% on Rotten Tomatoes and 27% on Metacritic. Fox, as of this moment, claims "While we're disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe." Which, you know, is a lot of lipservice that means little considering Sony said something similar and had two more sequels planned before pulling the plug on their Amazing Spider-Man line. Fox still has X-Men: Apocalypse and Deadpool on the horizon, and so far both look to be at least decent movies that will more than make up for this. Even Gambit has some positive buzz behind it, though it's much too early to really call on that one.

Really, it's less that it's a disaster that's newsworthy in my eyes, but that it's a disaster during pretty much the height of this genre's popularity that's interesting.

Certainly can't blame you. From what I've read the only thing the movie has to do with Fantastic Four is the names of the characters. Allegedly Sue doesn't even get her powers with the rest of the group.

---

And yet another Arrow character added to the ever expanding cast. Elysia Rotaru as "Oliver's old flame," presumably for this season's flashback scenes.

As is the new tradition, the pilot episode of Lucifer has been "leaked" and it's okay. Originally from the Sandman graphic novel, and a run of his own. Lucifer is a figure representing will and individual willpower, who challenges the "tyranny of predestination". I haven't read the book so I can't vouch for the accuracy between the two mediums, but as far as the pilot is concerned it's similar to Constantine, but more CSI than Supernatural. Tom Ellis plays the Lord of Hell, who is bored and unhappy so he retires from his position to run a bar (and solve crime using his powers of supernatural persuasion) in Los Angeles. The special effects budget seems to be pretty high, decently animated angel wings and a Two-Face-ish coin and some slo-mo. Not overdone. Some social commentary, but an infinite times more well done than Supergirl managed and not really distracting. Overall, I'll give it a few more episodes.

Just to prove to myself I'm not paranoid about these so-called leaks, the pilot episodes for Minority Report, Blindspot, and Carmichael Show have all also been released, roughly at the same time, and have all been authenticated.

Also, Winona Ryder confirms Beetlejuice 2, and Bill Murray to appear in the next Ghostbusters movie as well as Dan Aykroyd. Now they just need to get Ernie Hudson.

Possible Civil War Spider-Man costume.

Apparently Matt Ryan, not so well known as NBC's short-lived Constantine, will be appearing on an episode of Arrow. Also, first look at Jay Garratt, the funny hat Flash. Kind of neat they replicated an old comic cover. While on CW, apparently there's a Friday the 13th show in development, which I guess could be neat as long as they don't make it a romance action show like most of the channel's lineup.

Feige turns right to "Doctor Strange," scheduled for release Nov. 4, 2016, and credited the comic book source material for fueling the films. "A fellow named Benedict Cumberbatch is playing 'Doctor Strange,'" Feige reminded the crowd, to loud applause. This led to a video message from Cumberbatch, recorded in London.

"I'm very, very lucky and excited to be taking on 'Doctor Strange' from Marvel," Cumberbatch said. "He's an extraordinary character and brings in a whole new dimension -- multiple dimensions -- to the Marvel Universe. We start work in November, and I can't wait to bring you the film a year after. You're going to get girls, cars, explosions and a little bit of astral projections. The usual fare."

"Doctor Strange" doesn't start filming until November, but Feige showed the crowd a reel of concept art from the film, narrated by director Scott Derrickson, who talks the premise: Stephen Strange is a neurosurgeon who's in an accident that ruins his career, leading him on the path to becoming Sorcerer Supreme. The art showed exotic locales and Strange's usual New York City homebase, levitating cars and scenes in otherworldly realms.

Feige said "Doctor Strange" will be "as weird as any movie ever."

The reel ends with a comedic scene of a starstruck Scott Lang ("Thanks for thanking of me," he tells Cap, tongue-tied)

Looks like the old rumor about the Agents of SHIELD spin-off has become a pilot, as Adrianne Palicki's Bobbi Morse and Nick Blood's Lance Hunter are going to star in "Marvel's Most Wanted." No real information, beyond that tidbit, is known. However, just by the title I imagine they're on the run from SHIELD and other law enforcement and have renegade type adventures for a few episodes. Or bounty hunting maybe.

Also, if anyone is wondering, Amell hinted that he would be revealing a green Arrow costume for his match at Summerslam against WWE's Stardust, which brings us full circle back to the 90s.

Mistress Shaw from 12 Years A Slave, Alfre Woodard cast for Netflix's Cage as a "powerful politician."

That doesn't look like it says "Fuck Communism" to me. Smiley: mad While I have imgur open, country music legend (or so I'm told) Hank Williams movie, starring a guy about as far away from a good ol' boy southerner as you can get. It's Loki. Looks the part, and I'm absolutely dying to hear him talk and sing. He's also going to be in the King Kong remake "Skull Island," along with Brie Larson and Corey Hawkins, and Toby "Yet Another Disasterously Interperated Dr Doom" Kebbell is in talks to join that particular cast. Rumor is Samuel L Jackson and John C Reilly are also possibly involved. Also did I mention Michael Chiklis, one time Thing and dirty~ish cop, has been cast as Captain Nathaniel Barnes in the second season of Gotham? Looks like he'd have made a pretty good Kingpin, though he looks a little short.

In a paragraph break, Sleepy Hollow seems to have promoted Zach Appelman (the Wendigo) and Lance Gross (Abbie's boss Special Agent Daniel Reynolds) to series regulars. The Wendigo episode was neat, but I'm still not too certain how the next season is going to go, considering Headless is still missing. It's like having the Avengers and not having Pym.

Age of Ultron gag reel.

There's an unsubstantiated rumor that George Miller, director of the recent Mad Max movie, will be directing the next Man of Steel movie. At least according to Jon Schnepp, who directed "Death of Superman Lives." The latest I've found says "though an industry insider has shared information with us that casts doubt on the rumor."

Chicago sucks. I hate you.

Spider-Rumor regarding Civil War wrote:
After months of speculation about whether or not the new Spider-Man -- played by Tom Holland -- would appear in "Captain America: Civil War," the screenwriters of Spidey's next solo film answered that question with an affirmative answer. Now, in addition to introducing Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Heroic Hollywood has heard from an unnamed source that there's one more actor playing an iconic character has shot scenes for the film.

Spoilers ahead for those that want to remain completely in the dark about the "Captain America" sequel.

According to an unnamed source, Spider-Man's most prominent and ever-present supporting cast member, Aunt May, will feature into at least one of his scenes in "Civil War." As HH points out, this is in line with what the Hollywood Reporter initially said regarding actress Marisa Tomei's possible attachment to the role.

It's worth pointing out that while Tomei was confirmed to play Aunt May back in July by news sites like THR and Variety, Marvel has yet to officially announce that the actress will play the part. They've also yet to officially confirm that Spider-Man has a role to play in the film, although an alleged press release and Holland's presence in Germany (where "Civil War" recently wrapped filming) supports claims that he has a part to play. Additionally, an Atlanta news affiliate reported on a local prop house that reportedly provided Peter Parker's bedroom furniture for "Civil War."

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan and more, "Captain America: Civil War" opens on May 6, 2016.
I really want Marisa to be Ultimate Aunt May.

Also to add to the rumor-mill, when asked which hero he'd like to play, Nathon Fillion said he'd like to play Booster Gold (perfect casting, in my honest opinion) or Ambush Bug (who I suspect was just thrown out for the laughs).

Finally for now, it's not Halloween yet and I'm still disappointed.

Matthew Willig cast as the Inhuman Lash for Agents of SHIELD, which continues to be baffling as the movie it'll lead up to is literally years away and is barely just a title at this point. Constance Zimmer and Andrew Howard cast as well as people from an organization called the "ATCU." Advanced Threat Containment Unit, which I assume are a SHIELD branch who Guantanimos new Inhumans that pop up from last season's finale with the infected Fish Oil. I'm sure all those elderly Inhumans are going to be trouble. Seriously, who the hell takes Fish Oil suppliments?. Finally Juan Pablo Raba as a "new Inhuman with as-of-yet unannounced abilities" named Joey, which I guess will be part of Mary Sue Poots' Secret Warriors.

This is just hopeful and wishful thinking on my part. But I hope Fantastic Four goes back to Marvel, the slot slated for Inhumans becomes a FF movie but keeps ties to Inhumans. Keep Dr. Doom looming as a background character to build him up as the next story arc villain like Thanos. Give him the technology and the magic and make him as he is in the comics, a noble yet evil character.

I don't think anyone can do a Fantastic Four movie justice. I'm sure tagging it with the MCU label and having Robert Downey Jr do a flyby and Chris Evans make a joke at the Human Torch's expense would make half a billion dollars, but I don't think it'd be an actual good movie. There's just too many story elements to fit into a two~two and a half hour flick. I think the best thing for the franchise would be to make a 12+ episode show out of it, and make it like Lost in Space meets Twilight Zone and/or The Outer Limits. A family having space / other dimensional adventures. Throw in Herbie if you really want to have the robot.

Tony Todd, the creepy guy in a bunch of horror movies like Candyman and the coroner in Final Destination, cast as the voice of Zoom in Flash. Another speedster who I admit I regularly confuse with Reverse Flash. They're doing a whole James Earl Jones as Darth Vader thing here, which is neat since Tony definitely has a distinctive voice when you want evil. Though, he's no Morgan Freeman who could narrate the instructions to vanilla cake and win awards. They're saying that Zoom's appearance is going to be similar to Venom from Spider-Man, in that "The Zoom outfit is much more organic than the Reverse-Flash suit. In a way, it's hard to tell if it is a suit or alive ... There is no skin showing, for all you know there's a robot underneath, or dark energy." Also they plan on drawing out the mystery, unlike Reverse-Flash that most figured out almost immediately, "like a horror movie - 'who's the killer? Who's under the mask?'" (Source)

Also there was a rumor that Michael Shannon, General Zod in Man of Steel, was going to have flippers in Batman v Superman which lead to speculation that, somehow, got people to believe he was going to be Doomsday. Turns out he was lying about that and he's mostly there just for voice work.
