This thread definetly delivers!

On a side note, I'm starting out BRD@20 and taking it straight through to 70+ from here on in hopes to eventually be able to fund my MNK with some really nice EQ. I said "starting out" cause my friend leveled it to 20 not me (shared account)...so I need to basically learn BRD from 20 >_<. Yeah, I'm not too comfortable about skipping 20 levels on a job but I figured I should be able to figure it out.

I have a decent idea of how to play BRD, read all I could from the BRD forums and made the nessesary macros. Anything you BRDs out there think I should know? Also if you guys see me online fell free to invite me to PT even if I'm not on LFG status.

Thanks Poom and Ama :D

I'll be sure to ask you two plenty of dumb noob questions about BRD.
From the list of songs that I've read it looks complicated. I mean it seems like you guys have NIN type songs to make the mob weaker to elements then you have DMG dealing songs then PT DD support songs then PT MAGE support songs and this is only the BRD part. With /WHM them comes a whole bunch of other stuff >_<

I'm looking foward to finaly doing some BCNMs :D

the only damage dealing song bard has is requiem, which is a DoT song ^_^;

majority of time (until merit pts/hnm really) buff-wise you'd only be singing ballads (maybe Int etude/MND etude when you don't have ballad II), madrigal(acc+) and minuet(attk+) on melees , rangers might prefer a prelude (racc+). Fun comes when you have a pld in your pt and you have ot start learning the positing and the range of your songs with specific instruments~

Elegy is the most important debuff (which you won't get till 40s i think..), if manaburn then threnody~

its easy to get the hang of~ have fun ;p

That's one of the things that has me in confusion too....is it a given rule for the mages to sit back as far as you or you have to tell people? How hard is it to determine the distance of instruments?

My personal experience with Reqiuem is: It does not worth to sing it usually. It does so little damage in exp PT. Sometimes I do use Requiem to tortue a Tiny Mandy :P . DoT will also render mobs not sleepable. Requiem DoTs also give mob no other negative status, and there got to be better things to do then doing Requiem.

Well, Stringed instruments have a much longer range than wind instruments =x so keep that in mind lol

As a bard if you dont like the party! Leave it. Also feel free to be a total asshat and dont accept invites if the party has a paladin. This will ensure that you dont have to make everyone dance to your songs to get in positon. Another good pointer is to have really long macros telling everyone what song your playing. i like to quote some of my favourite songs, and even if it gets old, its your fun. If they dont like it, they can blist you. Heck! you can blist them too. As far as songs go, just get ballad ballad 2 magic finale, fow lullaby, horde lullaby and minuets. You will never have to sing any other songs so why bother getting them right?

P.S I am not drunk :o
As a note. This is sarcasm.

Well...no leveling BRD starting from level 20 anymore.
Our new hume female character "Desnia v2.0" (or as Amanada said Desnia II :D) will be the our mage character so I'm going to start BRD from level 1.

-Poombala
Your advise is great! Thanks for the tip!

PS: What is this "sarcasm" you speak of?

PPS: I will still ask many noobish BRD questions!

you'd not want the mages to be very far away from the pld actually, a good amount of distance would do, as long as they're all in ballad range its np. Wind instrument is prolly better in controlling than String instrument for this matter, but if you're in a manaburn party it'd prolly be easier to switch to string for the bigger range

for string instrument playing ballad, ballad I has a crazily big range whereas ballad II is signicantly less (but still bigger than using wind of course), so it'd be very hard to manage for a pld+mage pt.

Its not that scary, since you get ballad 1 first its kind of step by step :) once you've been playing with your songs for a while you'd find the range

one note to add is because there is no ballad + instrument (excluding relic horn), if you do a buff with a +1 or +2 instrument (say minuet with a Cornette/Cornette+1) then immediately or very quickly after you sing 2 ballads, you'll find you have minuet and the 2nd ballad on you. This is due to the buff that is removed when a third buff is sang is depending on which one wears off first. +effect instrument will make the buff last longer so if you sing too early the first ballad might due to wear before the minuet. You'd be amaze at how many bards either not aware of this or thinks its a bug :P

I noticed that Spirataru :x is it better to use Ballad I then Ballad II after it? Cause I do Ballad II first (just used to it now ><)

I was aware of the different distance with the instruments but I was not aware at all that the version (ex. Ballad I/Ballad II) of the song has different range also. I did how ever notice that the 3rd song takes over a previews buff. So...it takes over the buff that is about to end or is it random....or it takes over the last buff you put on yourself?

I need to start playing it already cause the more I talk about it the more I find this job extremely complicated >_<

it will always always takes off the buff that is due to wear off first. you will really only get this problem for ballad if you use all +2 instruments for other songs. Say liek if you use +2 instruments for all 3 songs: minuet > march > mambo, you'll have march mambo np.

Calli:
i personally use ballad I then ballad II, mainly because i'm used to it that way lol, usually the only one who would effected by this problem is yourself(and the pld if you have one), and i usually can't be bothered to wait until you're sure that first ballad wont' get overwrited (usually if you buff melees, walk to mages, do all 3 debuffs then sing ballad you won't be problem, but how likely are you gonna do at merit pts :P) it wouldn't matter if your mp isn't an issue and have a nin tank, but when you want to recover mp/ have a pld tank, it'd be better to sing ballad 1 first so you'd have ballad II on yourself and the pld.
