Can I Have it? Newbie friendly LSFollow

#1 Apr 14 2006 at 6:30 PM Rating: Decent
Hello! To those that do not know me, I am Nebz... a cutaru taru smn that occasionally roams the fields, mountains, plains, deserts, caves and valleys of Vana'Diel. Recently my playtime has been significantly reduced due to work, recently found gf and other factors of real life... However, I definately want to start getting my gf involved. I want to show her it's much more than "just a game" so the next time I have to tell her to hang on cause five other people are depending, relying or waiting on me, she may understand a little better.

So far, she knows it's an online game, with real life players from across the globe playing characters on some sort of online game... She understands that cause it is online, there is no pausing. I've also tried to express that there's no "do-overs" either. She seems to understand it, but I think she'd have a greater appreciation or understanding if she, herself, got into the game. Also, she's all for this idea and it would give her something to do while I'm at work.

Now, seeing as I'll be at work a good majority of the time she's online playing, I must call upon others that I may know and trust, or those that I may come to meet and trust, to assist me in getting this new found player into the game. I will continue to work with her so she has some basics, but I would really appreciate it if I could get her a LS, or a list of names she can seek out if she has a question when I'm unavailable to ask. My overall goal is to get her into this game so that when I'm playing, and she can't find anything else to do but watch me play, that she's interested and happy with watching instead of falling asleep bored because she has no understanding of what's going on.

Gil and gear for her will be covered by myself, and she should not require assistance with too much just yet. Sadly, I will be unable to assist her in anything as her and I will be playing from the same PC and same POL ID. Therefore, when the time comes, she may need help in some areas. Such as collecting Kazham keys or maybe obtaining rank 3, 4 and/or 5. However, I foresee these being later down the road as I will be encouraging her to play a variety of jobs to at least lvl 20 as to be prepared for the long road ahead.

Currently she's lvl 1 without a single point of experience on any job, but was chosen to start as a mnk (wh00t, go white belt!) as mnk > war > thf > whm > blm > smn was the path I took, so shall she play a few melee's till she understands party schematics and the role's each job plays in a party. Hopefully, this will help her understand how hate works a little as well. As for her final job, I unno, that's up to her... but thanks for reading this far... Please reply below or send tell to Nebz in game if you can and will offer any assistance, advice or knowledge that she may seek. Thank you. ^.^

HI,

I'm not in a noobish LS. More high level. And I do work alot but I am on during the mornings and evening and able to do simple things. So if she needs any help with keys or getting to the dunes. She can send me a tell. I'm also female don't know if that matters. /giggles

My homepoint is Sandy. So if she's in Sandy that would be a plus.
And I'm sure she will love the game as I have and I think it's awesome she's giving it a shot instead of trying to make you quit. /clap

~See ya in the game. btw: I'm either on Chausie or Shyann. /wave

Thank you... the help I was talking about for now, is more Q&A than anything... I know when I started I barely had a clue wtf to do. I think my roommate showed me the F8 trick, I found the F9 trick on my own... Some pt members showed me the F1-F6 tricks when I was somewhere around lvl 12 whm. Heh, I actually had 12 different macro's for cure & Cure II cause I would macro to <pX> instead of <sp> or using Fkeys. But the thing I remember most is sitting infront of the person I was to trade the adv. coupon to for about an hr and a half unable to figure out how to "trade" with her before my roommate said: "Use the '-' key!".

So right now, it'll be mostly Q&A for a lil while... once she gets to the dunes, it's all a learning experience anywho... As for subjob items, kazham keys, rank 3, we'll worry about that when she gets there. Perhaps I'll get lucky and have her on a pc of her own with a FFXI of her own and can help her myself... Sadly, she can't /t Nebz "How can I .....?" whenever she needs at the moment... and I'd really like it if her and I shared some common friends that help her get her feet wet. Of course, kind individuals willing to donate their time are always welcome to a friendship with Nebz... so please do not feel your assistance is not desired or welcomed as I assure you it is not only desired and welcomed, but appreciated as well.

Eh, I'm in Revile. It's more of a high level LS, but besides that just /tell her to send me any questions if she has any. I'll be happy to answer them as long as she's prepared for a lot of words. I tend to type more than necessary, and ramble on like a cow who doesn't realize there is no more grass. Ridiculous huh?

Nebz, I did that with my wife (Same PoL id) and i seriously suggest getting another version of the game.

My wife's issue was i wasnt doing anything with her and using the same PoL id we couldnt even play FF together, I eventually got another version of the game but i required her to start over after having reached lvl 40 and she wasn't happy.

O.o d'oh... that sux... maybe I'll have to get her the ps2 version... but she may not like having to play in the living room... and that'll mean having to get more ethernet cable and a ps2 network adapter :\

I am out of the game for a few more days until I get my PS2 back from the shop, but I will be more than willing to help out where I can.

If she has taken to the game at all, it might be better getting her hooked up on PS2 so you can play together. I know I would find it alot more fun to play with my friend and not sitting around waiting for my turn to play. But, that's just me, because I'm addicted ;)

I will give you a yell when I am back.

Another shout out for getting her her own copy of the game...if you want her to start playing it so that she can understand your obsession with it, it's *much* better for her to be able to play with you, ne?

Is it possible for you to move either the PS2 or the computer, so they're in the same room? That will also enhance the "FFXI is something that we do together" aspect.

I just got the system for my PS2, got the HDD and expansion off ebay, and with HDD + Expansion + Network Adapter + cable (Already had a router), it came out to about $130. The only thing is that if you get the HDD off ebay, you will have to very specifically clarify whether or not the CD Key has been used. A lot of them that are sold as "new" I found actually weren't. (Of course, that didn't matter to me because I just wanted to play my same account on the other system, but it would be important in your case.)

Seriously. Do it now.

Re: your main request - I'm another female player who will be very happy to help her as needed. I'm mostly on from about 5:30-12 pacific time, so any evening.

Hey Nebz, I have the HDD and game for PS2 just sitting in my closet. LoL. I've ported over to PC and traded in my PS2. They wouldn't take the HDD sooooo it's collecting dust. Let me know if you take that route.

I agree with everyone else here.. Don't have her continue with a character on your POL ID for too long.... Cause ultimately she would defenitely have more fun playing online with you... I myself am a girl and play the game with my boyfriend. It is so much fun to go adventuring together... Plus you wouldn't want her to get to a high level or finish some of the annoying missions or quests to have to do them over on another ID just so you can play on the game together. I find a great satisfaction SP'ing w/ my boyfriend. We have 4 jobs that we level'd together I'm sure she would like to do the same.

I'm sure it'd be fine for you guys to hang out in DistortedReality. It's got people ranging from dunes levels to 75. Send me a tell ingame, I'll try and remember to search for you next time I'm on.

Ah the feeling of having the other half play. I agree with the above posters yes please do get another version of ffxi. Even if it is a the ps2 version it aignt all that bad. I have the same set up myself with my girfriend and I. She plays on PC im on ps2 and we are in the same room.

Another suggestion i would make party with her when you can. There are times when just having your significant other in the same pt with you can be fun, and exciting. Besides you can probably give more constructive critism on her play style better, then some other guy/gal going off and saying how much of a "noob" she is and what not. I know ther latter rarely happens, but it stings and tends to demoralize new players, as well as some vets.

Anyway i wish ya the best of luck it's a pretty cool experience when the other half starts to play.

Nebz, we met a long long time ago. I punted you on an airship once ^^

I'm usually on at night and will gladly help. My boyfriend loves to help people too and I can give her a pearl into my ls...we have people from predunes level to endgame level. Have her send me a tell if she has questions or needs help.
