I cannot post on killingifrit using a sidekick, because that site is poorly designed, normally that doesn't bother me but there's some things I feel need to be said and I know some of the people read both. Sorry if this is going to be considered drama. Read no further if that would bother you please.

In this thread members of KoN/Dynasty and WW give various excuses as to why their LS's cheat, instead of really addressing the issue. I am not going to name names because I am really not intending to flame, rather I wish people would take a harder look at what they do ad their consequences on others that play the game. But I want them to know that the following excuses which they use hold no value. The excuses fall into these categories:

Excuse 1 "ping times are unfair so we have to cheat" Ping times do give a minimal advantage to some, but this is a natural occurence in all online games, botting is not part of the game. Botting and editing darters and anything else other than in game macros gives a much bigger advantage than any ping time. People cannot help that they have a better ping time than others - it is not a hack.

Excuse 2 "Its not me that's cheating its just my LS" if you are in a LS that cheats to claim HNMs then you are using them as a "cheat device" whether you like it or not. If you partiicipate in an event that was accessed through cheating (claim bot, editing out darters, etc.. ) then to say its ok because it was someone else in your LS is a copout.

Excuse 3 "If somebody doesn't like cheating then they don't have a right to enjoy endgame activities and they should simply step aside" This is absurd!!! Why should those of us who do not wish to cheat simply not be allowed to play a portion of the game?

Excuse 4 "They do it so we have to do it too" No it doesn't mean that. No one can make you cheat. That is a choice you had to make yourself.

Excuse 5 "There's too many LS's so we have to cheat" Oh come on... It is not anyone's fault that they like to play the game. It is not your right to punish them for being too many and exclude them from a part of the game by cheating for claims.

Excuse 6 "Hey at least we don't MPK"
These are all rampant forms of cheating on ffxi:- Botting (including darter editing type claim hacks) , RMT, using a windower, and Powerleveling, and MPK. But out of all of those only botting excludes others from a portion of the game. It is easily the worst of all those cheats. Yes, that's right, claim hacks are worse than MPKing, because anyone can do it without leaving the game mechanics to do it, so as bad as it is, at least it's a LEVEL playing field. So don't think for a second that you are somehow a good kind of cheater for not taking the MPK route.

If there were any other excuses I have forgotten them or I thought they were a joke.

In other games I have played in the past I have just thought, "oh well its probably just some 12 year old kid" but not in this case. I have known and been friends with some of them in the past and we are talking about adults who still don't understand right and wrong.

All I guess I'm saying is this:

Stop making excuses.

If your going to cheat then there's really nothing anyone can say to change your mind so don't justify it just come to terms with it. There's no need to gloss it over. Just say "I cheat because I enjoy my pixelated rewards more than my integrity, and that's my own business."

This thread reminds me of using of illegal medication and supplements in sports. Heh at least that involve RL business interests. Where is Barry Bonds o.O?

Back to topic:

Even in anicent China wisemen understands one component of human nature:

"The ten steps laugh at the hundred steps."

The excuse that "other cheats, so I can cheat" is common nearly every part of life. At least this is just a game. I know a few friends who do business in China... They say that it is simply not possible to do business without cheating taxes and bribery in certain degrees... but this is bad comparison I think.

HNM LSs are over-rated. Umber gear is over-rated. What is under-rated is " :-) " and " :D ".

Well, I don't disagree with most of your post. However, I'll be ******* dead before I allow my name to get dragged in the mud because of a pearl over my head.

You people don't know **** about everyone in the LS, not all of us condone it. Sure as hell not all of us do it. I've talke in LS about some things that have gone on I didn't like. I've even apologized to some outside the LS friends for actions by others. However, there are few LS that offer the opportunity for some fights (forget about the 3 kings, they are worthless, I say that w/o a single piece of koenig from them too). I'm talking Tiamat, Jormungand, Vrtra, KV in altepa, Dynamis Lord.

Those are the things I want to be a part of, guess what, those aren't botted, theres no need. So really, while most of that post is true, I don't think it justified to slam EVERYONE in a LS and muddy everyone's name when you don't know how everyone is.

I digress though, I will leave the peaceful forums of alla alone, just had this brought to my attention by Tikal on KI.

I'll run your name in the dirt anytime I want to Warf!!!

NOW CHOOSE A SIDE!!!!! CAKE OR PIE!!!!!

I think the Praetorians are gonna jion up with the Bladesingers this weekend to take on Warchief Vagit. We have our links party setup and everything. We plan on kiting him around the upper area but I think VanadielFinest might show up and bot him. If we get the claim, I am sure someone will try to mpk us with Orcish Grunts. In the end we just need the fire crystal so we can syn the Copper Ingot needed for a Copper Hairpin.

I am going to show off my new shiney Nobles and be le umber botter!!!oneoneoneone wwwwww

(Just kidding)

To both Warf and Tikal:

Good everyone remain chilled and most people are more interested in WWF crap talk in this thread. (There is reason why people are trying to diverge from the OP here)

Really just have fun in the game, and everything are fine. But do remember, if you do choose to do something, you have to accept the consquences to that. If that include shoulder some group responsibility, so be it.

I can say that because my Cherry Cream Pie is a family recipie :P

I <3 cake though, no doubt. It's just that one specific pie is > then all. Generally I like cake more.

Edit:
Amanda, it is true, there is some form of group responsiblity. I knew a bit when I came in. For that I will take my own responsibility. I just don't want to be lumped in as a cheater just cause I'm in KoN is all.

Just noticed this, so I thought it'd throw my thoughts on this out to you.. as botting and editting your ffxi files is cheating in my book, I don't understand how using this 'widower' deal would be considered cheating when all it does is minimize the window so that people can do things like look at forums while they are sitting and waiting for PTs, the same could be accomplished by having a secondary computer(like me). However, I have heard of some plugin's that allow for the user to see TP, Health, Blood Pact; In that I digress, for I do find that cheating.

MPKing on the otherhand, however childish and immoral is not "cheating"; However it is wrong and against ToS so it shouldn't be done.

I am not really sure how "Powerleveling" got in the mix at all, I myself have never been powerleveled. I have been asked to Powerlevel good friends and I have in the past and continue to do so when I am bored, for 1 it helps me cap my healing magic. The only bad thing I see when people get powerleveled is that they become bad at their job because they can slack off and the PLer can save them. To me it would be the same as saying getting a HL to solo a NM for your AF drop is cheating, and until there is a rule in the ToS prohibiting the use of Powerlevelers then I don't really see the issue.

RMT, I am not going to touch that with a 10 foot pole. ICK~

From my understanding, Kyu, people are able to run scripts through the windower. Scripting is ridiculous. The ability to minimize FFXI is not. From what I've read, the reason SE prohibited this is that it gives people the opportunity to hack the files if they can minimize the window.

I just think some people have too much time on their hands. Isn't the enormous time sink of the game bad enough? LoL. Now you're taking all this time to find the uber hack on the game. Wow. Just play it and have fun.

And on a side note... Boston Creme Pie... mmmmmmmm (I'm sure I won't have that many in agreement for that one. LoL)

Agreed, I didn't know about the whole "scripting" deal, but I heard a rumor of someone doing something like that, so it makes sense.

Seeing the BP timer will never be cheating in my books -_-

Why oh why SE made BPs the only ability/spell in the game that you can't see the timer off, I have no freaking idea.

Why should I have to blow 15-30 MPs calling an avatar out early, just to see that I still have 10 seconds before I can BP. Imagine if spells didn't show timers, and you still lost the MP for trying to do a spell that didn't have the timer ready.

Now I'm one to usually keep my nose outta stuff but this is too good to pass up. They admit to, in essence, stealing claims, but ppl are still tryin to defend it. Makes me scratch my head and wonder did they really in all honesty think we were blind in the first place. Most hnmlses have taken this "game" and turned it into something else. Now im not sure about how most of everyone feels but I play for fun and for relaxation. I think if they are sad enough to use this to get monopoly money fine let'em. I've played every Final Fantasy ever made and it was never about super gear or how much gil i had. Somewhere along the way we have all lost in either a large amount or in a small portion that this is supposed to be about the story. I mean afterall it is an RPG correct me if I'm wrong. So let the sad ones who take this way to seriously have they're bots and they're hacks and everyone else lets just enjoy the damn game.

Dakpluto, there is another option which is what I do to keep track of my bloodpact timers. If you have a PDA there is a downloadable app called FFXI Timer. It has large touchscreen reset buttons you just tap when you do a bloodpact. You can set several buttons to different abillities. It also has a button on the bottom that counts time for exp chains (you select the level because the exp chain timers change by level, and then tap it every time you make a kill. ) As well as a ton of other useful info such as airship and RSE schedules, SC charts, and skillcaps.

Its a great alternative to having to resort to a windower for that type of thing. Of course you have to own a PDA.... But the point is there's other options. Using a program like FFXI Timer still preserves the integrity of the game wheras a windower allows for you to easily use other programs simultaneously with ffxi, which is what the programmers tried to prevent. Its not that the can't make ffxi windowable, its that they specifically want it not to be. As for why we get no timer in game for bloodpacts when the avatar isn't out... I have no idea but I share the frustration.
