Starfall Range AddonFollow

#1 Apr 25 2011 at 5:24 AM Rating: Decent
Right i have looked everywhere and i cant seem to find one but you the glorious Zam public may know of one or even might be using one right now!

My problem is that i always find myself getting to close to boss mobs when im trying to add Starfall into my rotation so i need something that tells me that the mob im targeting is in range so i dont have to get super close (if you've dps'ed Ozruk on HC you know what im talking about)

Cheers

Um, you do know that Starfall only hits mobs that you're in combat with now, right? So what you're describing shouldn't be an issue.

I don't know of any add on that tracks Starfall range though.

Yes i did my problem is is that i want to stay at max range and the scenario i referenced has nothing to do with hitting random mobs......so thanks for the input but i think you may have misread my original post a tad

Well, no offense but you didn't phrase your issue very well. From your second post I'm guessing you're dealing with a situation where you're trying to starfall adds during a boss encounter, but you aren't wanting to hit the boss? Or are you targeting the boss and wanting to make sure you hit the adds?

The best thing I can think or is to switch between the Glyph of Focus which tightens up the range of Starfall but increases damage by 10%, and another one of the Major glyphs depending on what results you're wanting.

There are multiple addons that incorporate some kind of range measurer. For a stand-alone addon, Curse.com suggested RangeDisplay.

It won't show you when Starfall will hit your target, but it'll show your approximate distance to it. To find out whether or not Starfall will hit, you'll need two numbers:

1) Starfall's range is 40 yards.
2) Starfall's range when glyphed is 20 yards.

From there, it's an easy 'if then' equation:

1) If my Starfall is not glyphed then I need to stay within 40 yards.
2) If my Starfall is glyphed then I need to stay within 20 yards.

A side-note on the first point is that an unglyphed Starfall has the same range as all your other spells, ergo, if you're in range to cast Wrath and Starfire, you're in range to cast Starfall. If glyphed you'll have to resort to either the range display addon, or hitting Starfall and then moving closer until stars appear above the boss' head.

As for Ozruk in Stonecore Heroic, his Shatter has a range of 15 yards which is displayed by a ring on the ground when he casts it, so as long as you stay just outside that ring, you'll hit him with Starfall and avoid being hit by Shatter.

Good luck.

@Mazra The range addon was exactly what I was looking for! I can still stay at max range my whole problem was just getting a bit to close for my liking was not that i was actually dying at the encounters. I am currently glyphing Starfall (i really should ahve mentioned that in the first post) so thats why im finding a problem I cant seem to judge the distance since none of my other adds seem to have a range display.

Im not having that much problem with Ozruk just using his insta death ability as an example really

@PigtailsOfDoom I'm sorry that you didnt understand what I was trying to explain if you would like to offer any advice on how to make my posts clearer i would be happy to take them on board. I suppose that the major problem is that they always make sense to me since I have witnessed the situation first hand.

Cheers

You just need to get drunk more. Most of us can't decipher sober posts.

I could because I ran out of beer and was mad like ANGRYFACE! Smiley: mad

I use actionbarcolor from curse for range issues, it "Tints the entire button red instead of just the binding text if the current target is out of range" and a red button is a lot more visible than just the number that you'd have to press to activate it.

Bartender and Dominos both do that as well, in addition to letting you place your action bars wherever you want and getting rid of the stupid eagles on the sides.

@Gwenorgan thanks for the tip mate but it won't work with Starfall as it casts as a self buff so the spell doesnt technically ahve any range only the buff affect has a range. i do have a similiar thing happen with Bartender so this is how i know it doesn't work :-)

Bartender can custom configure a button's rangefinder iirc. So you could easily set the button for starfall to show "out of range" if you're beyond the distance you have it glyphed for.
