Anybody have any interest in a protection pre-heroic and pre-raid gear list?

I know the expac has been out for a while and you can probably find them somewhere else already, but I thought I'd offer since I was putting together lists for my paladin.

If anybody is interested, can somebody please remind me of how to link an item from Wowhead?

If you made one I would add it to the supplemental Protection Paladin guide, if that would be OK with you of course! That would be really cool! Especially if you're compiling a list anyways that would be a fantastic resource. I really really need to finish the guide up. I have a list of Macros that I literally just need to copy and paste in but the formatting takes a long time.

Linking from WOWHead is super easy. Type in the name of the item, then highlight it and hit the URL button up on the top there. Then copypasta the link into the pop-up box and viola. Allakhazam automatically figures out WOWHead links and makes them into hover-overs.

I'm almost BiS from normal raids personally, but I'm sure there are plenty of people that could benefit highly from those lists :) I think it would also be interesting to see how your list and the one I've been using compare to each other. I've been using Mr. Robot since my guild leader told me about it for all my gearing needs and you might find it helpful as you do prepare those lists :)

This would be perfect for me. I just got my holy and ret sets all heroiced out and now I'm focusing on my protection set. Just remember that we have 2 more instances coming out (probably) next week with pretty much gear for every spec in it, so you might want to take that into consideration when compiling your list.

Tzs, if you PM me your email address I will send you the Excel file I have with the pre-heroics and pre-raid lists. And you are welcome to add them to the guide.

Here's the Pre-Heroic list as I see it:

Weapon: Mace of Transformed Bone
Shield: Elementium Earthguard
Relic: Halted Clock
Head: Helm of the Proud
Neck: Mountain's Mouth
Shoulders: Earthshape Pauldrons
Back: Wrap of the Great Turtle
Chest: Breastplate of the Witness
Wrist: Armguards of Unearthly Light
Hands: Fingers of Light
Waist: Hardened Elementium Girdle
Legs: Stone-Wrapped Greaves
Feet: Ramkahen Front Boots
Ring 1: Elementium Moebius Band
Ring 2: Felsen's Ring of Resolve
Trinket 1: Impetuous Query
Trinket 2: Tia's Grace

A few notes about the list now:

1)I included the JP helm because if, like me, you level as prot and you do your random daily every day, by the time you are done farming for the other items you need from the list, you should have no problems getting to 2200 JP. If you are having trouble getting the 2200 JP, Helm of Setesh is an acceptable, if not optimal, replacement.

2)If you have a LOT of gold, you can buy Pauldrons of Edward the Odd and use them until you get something better from raiding. It's a personal decision and a lot of it depends on how much they cost on your server. I included on the list the best item if you decide NOT to spend the gold.

3)The boots can be replaced with Boots of Sullen Rock/Gryphon rider's Boots, but I find Dragonmaw/Wildhammer rep to exalted to be a bit of stretch before doing any heroics.

4)This set is ridiculously easy to put together. 3 crafted items, 4 rep rewards, 2 BoEs, 2 quest rewards, 1 JP item, and only 5 boss drops. Seriosuly, can getting well geared for heroics get any easier?

5)Get the full list and your equipped iLevel will already be 339 before you even do a single heroic!!!

6)Unless you go for the Helm of Setesh over the Helm of the Proud, this set has 0 expertise. I, personally, do not think that's a problem, but some people may want a bit of expertise. If you are one of those people, there are items out there with ether dodge or parry and expertise on them. I'll stick with my mastery, though.

7)Tia's Grace is definitely one of the 2 best tanking trinkets available before heroics. You might **** some rogues off by rolling on it (and to be honest, the mastery is pretty meh for hunters and druids, so only assassination rogues should REALLY want Tia's), but if you do just remind them who it that is stopping that boss from rofl-stomping them.

If you have any qustions about why a certain item is on the list of think a different item should be on the list, please feel free to post or PM me. There are a lot of trinkets you can get, these 2 are just personally my favorite. You can also get 2 of the crafted rings if you like, but I prefer a more even mix of dodge and parry.

Just a couple of notes:

- Capt. makes a good point about the new troll Heroics, but keep in mind that they will have a steeper entry requirement than the current Heroics. It might be appropriate to have a pre-Heroic, Heroic tier 1, and Heroic tier 2 list, rather than lumping ZA and ZG in with the current tier of Heroics.

- I'm not saying you're wrong, just my opinion here: I'd replace one trinket you have there with Throngus's Finger, probably the Impetuous Query if you're like me and don't like "on use" items ;) Throngus's Finger is amazing and even though I have both stam trinkets from raids, I still keep the heroic version of the finger around for certain fights.

- I just want to second your opinion, Bigdaddyjug, in point 6. Not having a lot of expertise really isn't an issue at this point in the expansion. It hasn't been for me in Heroics gearing up or during our progression in raids. Neither has hit been an issue for that matter. I have somewhere around 1.3% hit or something like that, and I think 15 expertise, but that's with the Seal of Truth Glyph. It's only ever an issue at the start of a fight where threat is so sensitive, but once you get into a fight, threat is a non issue.

I'd go so far as to say reforge any hit/expertise off in favor of 1) mastery or 2) whichever RATING you have less of: dodge or parry.

I like the static boost on IQ better than on the Finger. Since their bonus effects are pretty similar, I went with the IQ.

And don't worry, neither IQ nor the Finger are on the pre-raid list, which I hope to get up tomorrow.

Since the gear level is likely to be 346 or close to it, the pre-raid list should be pretty close, with the caveat that you can probably get by with a couple more holdovers for the troll dungeons than for even the early raid bosses (except BH).

Also, from my time in the JC market, I'll add that while the Therazane ring is slightly better than the Moebius Band, the latter is /not/ unique-equipped, so there's no reason not to have your finger slots both filled as soon as you hit 85.

The only reason I wouldn't buy 2 Moebiud Bands as soon as you ding 85 is because Felsen's is better. Depending on your server's economy, Moebius could cost quite a chunk of change that could instead be spent on gems or enchants. If money is no object you should absolutely buy 2x Moebius Bands as depending on how you gem them they may fit into your set better than Felsen's.

Oh, and the new ZA and ZG are supposed to drop iLevel 353 epics which is a half tier above current heroic 5-man gear. However, you will also need to have an average iLevel of 346 just to get in. So basically you will have to either have all of the crafted/rep 346 plus the crafted 359s to get in, or you will have to do some heroics. I'm looking at treating ZA and ZG as 5-man raids and just having the majority of my pre-raid gear before even trying them.

Ok, I got some time at the end of my work day here so I'll post the pre-raid (or pre-ZA/ZG) gear list.

Threat weapon: Axe of the Eclipse
Mitigation Weapon: Elementium Fang
Shield: Elementium Earthguard
Relic: Relic of Kjaz'goroth
Head: Helm of the Proud
Neck: Carrier Wave Pendant
Shoulder: Earthshape Pauldrons
Back: Wrap of the Great Turtle
Chest: Beauty's Plate
Wrists: Shackles of Undeath
Hands: Fingers of Light
Waist: Hardened Elementium Girdle
Legs: Greaves of Splendor
Feet: Boots of Sullen Rock
Ring 1: Felsen's Ring of Resolve
Ring 2: Ring of Three Lights
Trinket 1: Tia's Grace
Trinket 2: Unsolvable Riddle

Total stats from this set:
Stamina - 4731
Strength - 3008
Dodge - 1411 rating
Parry - 1002 rating
Mastery - 1782 rating
Hit - 260 rating (326 rating with the Axe equipped)
1 Meta gem slot
1 Prismatic slot
3 Yellow gem slots
4 Blue gem slots
2 Red gem slots

I'm going to recommend Fractured Amberjewel in the yellow slots and prismatic slot, Fine Ember Topaz in the red slots, and Puissant Dream Emerald in the blue slots, and an Austere Shadowspirit Diamond in the meta slot.

A few notes on this gear list, since I made a few on the pre-heroic list:

1)Elementium Moebius Band (see the pre-heroic gear list) is a viable option for a ring if you're having trouble getting Three Lights to drop, but over all you cannot get to the same avoidance/mitigation levels with it.

2)You should have no problem putting together the 700 Valor Points for Relic of Khaz'goroth while farming to fill other gear slots. On top of that, almost every website I've read recommends that the Relic be your first VP purchase.

3)This set isn't quite as easy to build as the pre-heroic set, but it's still not terrible. There are only 10 boss drops out of 18 slots and they come from every Cataclysm heroic except Deadmines. So in the process of compiling this gear list you'll also be 1 achievement short of every doing every heroic Cataclysm currently has to offer.

4)Do you really need two different weapons? Yes and no. Depending on your group composition you may well find yourself at the bottom end of heroic eligibility and being grouped with some hot shot raider doing his daily random for the 70 VP. In this case you will almost certainly want to have the threat weapon. In almost every other case the mitigation weapon will be your best bet. If you only want to farm for 1 weapon, get the Elementium Fang. Or, if gold is no object for you, buy a Soul Blade off the Auction House and use it for everything.

As always, if anybody has any questions or thinks a piece of gear should be on here that isn't, feel free to post or send me a PM. Once ZA and ZG come out and the new gear is easy to find I'll amend the list or maybe even make a whole new one.

You beat me to it :) This is what I was referring to El about the new Heroics being a different tier. You'll be able to do current Heroics before you can do the Troll Heroics, and the Troll Heroics will have upgrades from the current Heroics, but be slightly behind raids.
