Healing Priest Q&A ThreadFollow

Figured we could use a nice thread for questions about healing stuff.

I wanted a second opinion on some trinkets.

I have Rainsong and Tear of Blood, just picked up Tendrils of the Burrowing Dark.

Thinking I'm going to keep my old two ones even though the SP would be nice, I don't want to drop regen trinkets for ones that aren't strong with Int at the very least. Opinions?

Also does Rainsong drop at least once every time you do VP or is it just seem to be that way?

That's ironic, I was actually thinking of setting up a thread just like this when I was trying to sleep in yesterday.

As for trinkets - I'm not too fussed. Our selection now seems to be 100% equal among all types of trinkets. There is no Soul Preserver-type trinket that's overpowered because of a semi-flawed mechanic. They all add throughput, mana regen, or a combination of it.

I do kind of recommend the Egg from Grim Batol (heroic) though - that one does definitely *seem* very good.

Why healing priest and not just Priest Q&A?
It's not like you couldn't answer questions about shadow and holy in he same thread.

Because then I can make a new thread for Shadow tomorrow.

I would not take Tendrils over the first two, personally. Right now the name of the game is mana mana mana. I'll fuss with mastery, haste, and crit amongst themselves (dump crit for the other two, I like mastery better than haste), but I would never fuss with them at the expense of Int or Spirit. I wouldn't fuss with George Clooney at the expense of Int or Spirit right now.

Ok, my priest is only 83 so maybe it's a level thing but when do I start to use mana to heal?

My question is what are you leveling with? I have duel spec, but I am findings a smite build works about the best. I lose almost no health. I tried shadow, but it didn't seem to work as well.

(I speced reflect shield to level).

The better your group, the less issues you will have with mana. Groups that don't cc, don't follow the best strategies, or make bad pulls are going to take much more of your mana. I notice that I am using more mana, but it isn't unmanageable.

I leveled as disc. I did go shadow for the last bit of questing to 85, mainly just for a change of pace.

I haven't done all the dungeons yet, and no heroics, and I haven't had a lot of mana problems with them. But as usual I'm doing more PVP than PVE and mana in battlegrounds is just awful. Made worse by the fact that I often can't stand still for 3 seconds to cast my efficient heals. I'm learning to get by with a lot less Renew and that's helping. Lightwell is shiny and pretty. People who don't know enough to click on it can, well, go die in the fire.

So, I'm level 84 now and mana is a lot more of an issue in the harder 5 mans. Still isn't that bad if the DPS plays smart. If it mainly tank healing I'm golden but when the DPS start to be dumb it can get squirrely fast.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out why MA is so hot for disc, I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious in my Festivus Flu delusional state.

It's not, but Smite sucks - I'd rather have 10% less mana cost on my PW:S.

On another note - I've been writing up the new priest guide and am pretty much halfway through. Could I ask your guys for your PvP experiences so far? Just the general idea of what spec you are and what you do in BGs/Arenas. Could do with some input.

Obviously you've already finished it but I'm just coming back from break and responding to things kind of randomly. Just want to note that I really love Holy for battlegrounds. The extra CC is stellar. IMO the spec shines the most in defensive situations, i.e., protecting nodes, towers, flag carriers, etc. In particular if you're going to stay in one spot and try to keep the enemy from capping it, as in AB or EoTS, because it allows you to keep Lightwell on cooldown and pretty much constantly accessible.
