When I get to 80 I would like to find a Core Hound for a pet. Where are they and can I get there solo?

Petopia is a good place to check out for pet info. For your questions I believe they are in Shadowmoon Valley.

actually, at level 80, it's VERY easy to get to.

The Kurken is in the the very back of Stillpine Hold on Azuremyst.
I forgot to mention if you are having trouble taming Uvuros there is always Spawn of Uvuros which pats around him.
