DPS (S.Priest) Question(s)Follow

#1 Sep 24 2010 at 3:04 PM Rating: Good
Hello!

Priest is my newest 80 and with all my characters I like to be the best I can be.
I'm absolutely loving S.Priest and made it my new main.

Now my question, I've been reading here and there for DPS tips ect...
But what I can't find is gemming and enchants I've been kinda doing it like my mage.

With my gear I kinda expected to get over 4,000DPS but I sit around high 2,000's or low 3,000's.

Tell me am I doing it right and best rotations.

Thank you all :)

Shoulders would benefit from the Spellpower and crit enchant over Spellpower and MP5

Belt Gem should be spellpower and spirit over spellpower and MP5

Your Stat priority looks like this (I think, might have hast and spellpower reversed):

Hit (until capped) > Haste > Spellpower > Crit > Spirit > Int > everything else

For DPS, you do not have a rotation, you have a priority system which breaks down about like this:

Vamperic Touch
Shadow Word: Pain
Devouring Plague
Mind Blast
Mind Flay
Shadow Word: Death (only used to fill gaps when needed)

You may also want to drop Imp. Vamperic Embrace and get Veiled Shadows. The minute off the timer of shadowfiend helps boost DPS.

Here's my armory, in the VoA 25 today I was getting around 4.5k DPS.

You can also go to shadowpriest.com or Elitist Jerks to get more precise info (I just came back after a long break).

EDIT: You also DEFIANTLY want the glyph of shadow. I'd take it over glyph of dispersion, but you could also get rind of the SW:P glyph.

I have the spell power + MP5 due to my meta requirements is there something better for a blue slot?

Ok now with the changes that you suggested I sit on 3,600DPS on ?? dummy.
Nice boost, think the rest is just gear and raid buffs to get dps higher :D

The spell power and +3% crit damage meta is really good. I highly recommend picking that up.

It doesn't seem like a lot, but that 3% really adds up when you consider how much you crit.

Edit: d'oh. I'm an idiot. I thought you meant you had a SP + Mp5 meta. lrn2read, kthx.

You'll want a lottt more haste. In your yellow sockets, use reckless gems. Also, don't skip bonuses that are +7 sp and above. Once you get your 4pc, it'll be quite a jump. You'll want close to 100% uptime on your sw:p and as close as you can get to 90% on your VT and DP. Spriest dps doesn't really give you time to think about what spell to cast next, I've found. You have to be very used to your priority system and do it almost flawlessly to compete, so practicing at dummies a lot and using DoTimers helps a lot. Farm for that haste trinket from regular ToC5. Once you've gotten better gear, if you still feel like you're hitting the wall, run over to shadowpriest.com and post some logs there. They're very helpful at combing over your logs and telling you where you are lacking. With their help I'm up to 9k+ dps on most bosses (I could still do a lot better with my gear, but the more practice the better). There are a lot of stickies over there, too, about specs/gear/priority, so don't miss out on that. :)

What Trilliandent said about practicing on dummies. You cannot do it enough and even when you've finally internalized it to the point where it happens naturally, go some more. I hit the training dummies for a few minutes 2 or 3 times a week just to sharpen things up.

You'll need to do that even more when you start to get haste on gear so get in the habit now.

You want Purified, they're Spellpower and Spirit, where spirit adds slightly to damage though talents and glyphs.
