I cringe at saying this, but it's more the fact that until the other day I had never healed more than myself. I was a straight shadow spec until recently. I had tried healing on my pally when it was a baby, but I was SO clueless (as opposed to my being clueless with healing on a priest) at it that I decided then and there that it was waaaay to complicated for muh feeble mind. (can you say HEALBOT ftw?)
No need to cringe. Healing isn't all that complicated and it can be a ton of fun. I think it can be intimidating learning to tank or heal though because there's more pressure and you're so exposed while learning. It's not like DPS or a yoga class where you can slip in, stand in the back, and hope nobody will notice if you ***** up.
I agree with you that a healing add-on is a really useful thing. We usually recommend people try on several of the more common ones (Healbot, VuhDo, Grid + Clique) to see which fits best. I truly believe that setting up a good efficient UI is a hefty chunk of the healing battle. The rest is knowing what spell to use for what job, and how to watch health bars and get out of the fire at the same time.
Enjoy your priest and ask questions here. We've got a lot of great healers with a lot of valuable experience. I am not one of them, but I will talk about cookies, like,
any time. I made some macaroons from a new recipe last weekend and didn't care for it. Too sweet and sticky.
