Hello Priestly friends, I was wondering if you all could help me with a problem.

Clicky.

See the priest? She's going into the portals along with the Pally, but is having a heap of trouble. Some of it's simply movement related I'm tending to believe (she also had issues on Malygos for reference, and 3D space isn't her best friend); she was getting about 6 stacks of buff to the pally's 20-25. But I was wondering if there's anything else you guys might be able to tease out. She's normally a disc. priest and only has been going holy for this one fight, so I don't know if there's something else she should do. I've had a couple of people mention guardian spirit, and I don't know if she used it, or if/how it shows up on the log files.

Some background, for those who may not know, when we were initially trying this fight we kept the priest out in disc. and me (druid) and the pally went into the portals. After consistently coming out the first time to find a wipe in progress, me and the priest decided we'd switch roles. The first time we beat Val. the priest never was really able to find the portals and stayed out healing the dragon (in disc. from what I was told).

Not that it's a huge issue, we have the fight down fairly well actually, minus the priest of course. Just hoping to help a friend out a little.

Any thoughts?

Stay disc, heal outside.
Disc is great outside, priests in general aren't very good at dragon healing as there's not much of a big heal for priests to spam. (Well, Greater Heal but it sucks)

Figure out why she fails outside, although I fear it's not easily curable.
What other fights does she have issues on?

Ya, um my bad for splitting the conversation between here and the druid thread.

She also has had problems on Malygos, and Hodir was bad. Nothing else in the current content seems to be giving her problems though.

*shrugs*

Did she have trouble on Yogg?

I suspect that she just can't keep track of what is happening around her.
Add to that some fairly random damage.. or well, whoever pulls aggro, and she's confused and wasting time because she doesn't really know who to heal anymore.

We never got to Yogg. Our raid group fell apart over a loot dispute in Ulduar, and we never went back to it once we re-formed. I think your suspicion is correct really. That seems to sum her up pretty well. We don't really ask her to raid heal for that very reason.

Then she really rolled the wrong class. Disc is a raid healer and so is holy. Smiley: tongue

Pally should be able to solo heal the Val with you on the raid. HL will get funky towards the end. Also why does it look like healing went down during Hero?

Have her DPS. Disc is terrible for dragon healing as too much of the 'healing' throughput is based on shields and absorbs which have no effect on Val. PW:S and DA typically account for 50% of my 'healing' done in a typical raid as an example.

I like how WoL says Val dies at the end. :)

This just looks like bad timing on hero from a healing perspective. I'm guessing the healers went into the portal about 10-ish seconds after hero was hit, and spent a good portion of the hero time not healing.

The healer should be the one calling for Hero on Val, so they can get it after a portal when they have buttons to push so they can really go apesh*t healing the dragon.

edit: This is why I like it best when we have our shammy heal Val, makes it easier.

Enough with the damn "Hero" already! What is this, some sissy alliance outpost? It's called BLOODLUST and we had it first!

Anyway, like Aeth said, just keep her out of the portal. People in my guild always complain about druid healers on Valithria, but a disc priest using his most optimal rotation is just about as effective as a druid who just randomly juggles his HOTs in the portal. A holy priest who'se specced for the fight and knows what he's doing will be more effective, though.

That said, with all respect, she should be doing fine outside the portals. Assuming the fight doesn't last past at most ~6 minutes, it's pretty much the easiest encounter to heal in IcC. Maybe Deathwhisper is easier.

Gunship is not an encounter!

Oooh is that what they're talking about? Thank you for clearing that up for me. And: Bloodlust FTFW.

I solo healed Saurfang again this week. But I died on the first add wave as ranged was slow. I got a b-rez and it was like nothing happened.

The whole first wing is really easy. You can solo heal the whole thing on reg, except maybe Marrow as people get a bit to spread out sometimes but even then they could stay near and it wouldn't be an issue.

Hmm...

I guess it depends on how you look at it. Saurfang was a ******** harder pre-buff and at first in general. Now everyone's so overtuned they bring him down without any marks. Back when you still had 2-3 marks on 10-man, it was pretty hard, even on normal, especially without paladin healers.

Lady Deathwhisper on the other hand, has always been easy.

He was?
Odd, I never noticed. He was kind enough to just go lie flat on his face and open his chest from the day he was released.

We've been getting worse at Saurfang. I blame laziness. Back when we were buff-less we'd flirt with the enrage timer with 1 mark up and me doing a mix of healing and resto-DPS, while the pally had fun with beacon.

Now we still get 1 mark, but we get it in like 2-3 minutes, I spend more time healing and less time DPSing. I think the concepts of bouncing aggro and kiting went out the window once people realized we could just mow stuff down.

You were DPS, you wouldn't have noticed.

He wasn't exactly teh toughest boss out there, but as soon as some marks came up, especially with ToC gear, you actually had to do **** and play at least somewhat effectively to keep everybody up. LDW and Valithria basically allow you to **** around and cast random spells at random targets.

I'm confident that our healers thought the exact same since it was a oneshot for all our 10 mans and both our 25 mans (gogo alts) with no deaths in the runs I did.
