leveling a shamanFollow

#1 Jun 18 2010 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
I just started a shaman and I want to go resto/ele once he hits the cap. I decided to level ele, so I can queue up as healer once I get dual spec at 40 and more or less use the same SP gear. Problem is, so far I only see gear that's oriented towards enh (in terms of leather). Am I going to have to switch to enh for leveling because there's really no gear to support ele leveling (I know enh is the way to go according to everyone else, but ele looks like fun)? Or am I going to have to wear cloth gear? Thanks

Pre 40, you will be focusing on cloth/leather gear for all of your spell power needs. Even after 40 and being able to wear mail, you'll still mostly be focusing on cloth/leather gear for spell power. BC content provides much more options for mail spell power gear. If anything, I would focus more on Int and Stam as it will provide the most benefit per point while leveling.

Leveling Elemental isn't bad, just requires a little more time and doesn't offer as much survivability as Enhance. It's always going to be a race for you: can you kill the mob(s) before they get to you?
Don't neglect Fire Nova as it does help alot - as long as the mobs are within the blast radius. Chain Lightning is awesome at 40...but eats chunks of mana so be sure to have a healthy drink supply. Most importantly, have fun. Once you hit 80, you will be able to pump out some great dps.
