I've been healing for most of the WotLK content with some forays into shadow from time to time. To me, going dps is kind of like recess to my normal role of healing. Make no mistake, I am happy healing the group and am content to maintain my role as healer.
Lately, I have been given a few chances to go dps on a few bosses when more ranged is a better solution. I am somewhat happy with my dps- the 4pc bonus is the shizzle, but I never got the opportunity to dps on trash. Until last week...
I've seen the DK in my guild go as high as 36k on trash (accidentally pulled both valkyr in 25 man and was able to sustain it for a minute or two before we were overwhelmed by all the adds) and our feral kitty is getting better at staying alive when she absolutely tears through trash, but I had only done bosses as dps and went back to healing between until our last run.
I think it was one of the trap packs between Fester and Rot, I popped Mind Sear and watched my numbers climb over 20k! As I was cackling over vent, I could almost hear my GM groan for letting me experience this bit of ecstasy and she knew it would be difficult to pull me out of the shadows.
I know it is only trash and it is certainly no measuring stick (oh boy, one button dps!), but I was so surprised by result, it left me feeling a bit empty when I switched back to my healing spec. =(
So do dps consider bosses main course and the trash dessert?
