AHHH. Why is Starlight Wrath not capped? Do you realize how huge that is? You are taking .3 seconds longer to cast every single one of your main two spells. For Wrath, without any Haste, that is FIFTEEN PERCENT lost DpS.

With Haste? It's even higher!

No no no no no no.

Moonglow is a talent that needs to be taken in proportion to your own mana pool and replenishment. If you wouldn't have gone OOM without it, then it is a DpS loss. This also accounts for Intensity (you should look at your own numbers to see which is better per point).

Genesis is a very small DpS increase per point. Each one is only a 1% to boost to two abilities that constitute a comparably small amount of your damage.

Nature's Splendor, on the other hand, is a MUCH larger boost per point. Just one and you get at least one additional tic from those two abilities. Moonfire has 4 tics per cast (1 every 3 seconds). This one talent point thus increases it's damage by 25%. And it is a 16.7% increase for Insect Swarm. For ONE POINT.

Per point, Imp. Moonfire also provides more at 10% per point (5% increased crit and 5% increased damage) for that one ability.

If you need the hit, the second point of Balance of Power is a large DpS increase. But that's only if you need all of most of it.

There's no reason to take Typhoon but not gale winds, imo. Although this is assuming you are making a PvE build.

It isn't that you need more points, it is that you need to cater your spec to what you need (which is the case for most classes). If you are going OOM, take mana talents and try and ensure Replenishment/gear up. If you aren't, prune away your mana talents until you have the right amount (high enough mana that you're okay if things go south, but not too high).

Didn't they "fix" the Typhoon-adds-off-the-ledge "bug" on that fight?

This is how you spec for boomkin raiding and you never ever deviate away from these core points.

You've got 2 extra points to put into whatever you want.

Seriously, I wrote the damn boomkin sticky please read this sh*t. The only thing different now from the sticky is the glyph choice and now its just Starfire, Starfall and Moonfire.

Thats it. Don't change anything, don't spec any other way.

Edit: Now that I also read some of the other posts in here.

If you are raid ready for icc10 you will not go oom. Getting to 42% crit buffed is crit capped for lunar eclipse. I repeat you will NOT GO OOM. Innervate easily covers any loss in mana that you can't make up with critting with wrath. Raid buffed in icc25 I will crit wrath and return 300 mana to myself.

As for actual regen talents moonglow is one of the worst talents we have. The less points the better, Intensity is our best regen talent. But I'll say it one more time with replenishment and imp moonkin form you will not go oom.

Arex, I have a question then. Why isn't the optimal build placing that one point in Moonglow in Genesis instead?

Arex WHY NO TYPHOON? the knockback is imba for kiting/solo
Also wouldnt brambles>natures reach for the dps i mean noone should need reduced threat in a raid and the bonus range is hardly needed.

As I understand it, Nature's Reach is like Tuskarr's Vitality; anytime you have to move around the less time you spend doing it the better, it's almost always more valuable to your dps than actual dps increases.

As ICC buffs keep getting bigger the threat drop helps too, tank threat isn't scaling nearly as well as dps is (though it's still rarely a problem if your hunters/rogues are dropping their threat shifts on tanks every cd).

Edit: Arex, no IS glyph? 30 sec off Starfall seems kinda meh...

Genesis sucks and there has been extensive testing on EJ about dropping a dot from your rotation to increase what you get out of wrath and starfire. One free global every 10 seconds should give you another wrath or starfire cast about every 15-20 seconds.

You obviously didn't read my post. You've got 2 extra points to put wherever you want.

As for nature's reach. It's required. The threat reduction is a little bonus but the extra 4 yards on your spells is what matters. For example.

You can get on marrowgar faster with dots when you run back into his hitbox after bonestorm.
You've got 4 more yards to space yourself between adds.
You're 4 yards farther away from rocket blasts in gunship.
You're 4 yards farther from blood beasts on saufang.
Fester, well not much for him really there is kinda no point for it on his fight.
Rotface when you kite a slime you can get back on rotface faster.
Putricide you're farther away from slimes if you get picked.

There is just 7 bosses of what limited experience I have in ICC or why natures reach is good.

Edit: Nor didnt see your question.

They buffed the coefficient on starfall so raid buffed in my gear (5500 GS for reference) it's critting for about 6-7k a star. Starfall hits ridiculously hard now.

What Should i be gemming?
Should gem SP/Haste for red/yellow with SP/Spirit for blue or just pure SP?

General rule: Pure SP in all sockets, except for two Purified Dreadstones to activate your meta gem (Chaotic Skyflare Diamond).
Exception to the rule: If you have a blue socket which gives 8 or more SP as bonus, use a purified dreadstone, because it gives equal or more SP than a Cardinal Ruby. The math has been demonstrated in excellent fashion somewhere around here by Arex, but I can't be ***** to look for it.
Other exceptions: You're under the hitcap and/or soft haste cap (401). You can either gem pure hit and/or haste, or you can gem Ametrines with SP/Haste and/or SP/Hit.

                  Red Blue Yellow
Socket bonus +8 SP SP/Spi SP/Crit
Socket bonus +5 SP SP SP/Crit
Socke bonus <5 SP SP SP

If you're below haste soft cap or above crit soft cap, change the SP/Crit to SP/Haste.

  • Even if you're under the soft haste cap, SP is still better than haste.
  • Never use a Nightmare Tear.
  • Always have at least 2 Purified Dreadstones(activates meta)
  • Use SP/hit or Hit in yellow sockets if under 263 hit rating.
