So I've been playing around with FD for a little while now, testing out different upgrades to see what pieces of gear will be the most beneficial for me to get first. The main areas of interest for me at this time are my current helm, shoulders, and cloak. Now on an individual basis, upgrading to the new cloak is by far the best choice as it will provide me a 194.65 increase in DPS, while also costing the least (50 frost) and I can afford it now (51 frost atm). The new helm would provide a 51.87 increase while the new shoulders would only increase my DPS by 34.35.

What has me a little, for lack of a better word, confused, is that if I save for and upgrade the helm and shoulders together (or one then the next when I can afford it) I will get a 385.52 increase in DPS due to the T10 2-pc bonus kicking in. So after all this rambling, my question is simply would you go for the cloak and the immediate major upgrade or save and works towards the T10 2-pc bonus? (Short answers work, reasoning behind them would be appreciated but not necessary) Thanks in advance!

Personally, I got the cloak first and regretted it almost immediately.

A lot depends on how far your raid group is getting. If you're in 10-mans and can squeeze the 41 hit in, the ilvl 251 Shawl of Nerubian Silk should make up at least half of the cloak's DPS if it drops for you (off Marrowgar!). And if you're in 25s, both the ilvl 264 version and the ilvl 264 Shadowvault Slayer's Cloak (Gunship Armory) should be at least equal to the badge cloak.

On the other hand, you need 104 frost to get to 2T10. That's three weeks plus of raid lockouts even if you clear most of the spire and get lucky with the raid weekly, gusting to six or seven if you are blocked and/or in fail PuGs. From experience, increasing our effective Hunter/Mage DPS was the biggest factor in getting Deathbringer-10 down the first time, and every bit counts if you go to Festergut/Rotface next. The 30k-40k that the cloak would bring you probably wouldn't be decisive, but you could certainly argue for it if your raid is real close to passing the DPS check. Especially since you'll end up with everything anyway.

Female Dwarf?

Asking about gear on a forum is ridiculously stupid. Spreadsheets are faster at math than me or you or Aethien are.
