Tier 10 gear and Scaling with tanksFollow

I'm in a dedicated 10 man raiding guild and I've started having a problem with threat. We are currently wiping on the Professor, but we are really close and will probably get him this week. The problem has become my gear. I'm maxed out at the moment. There are only some moderate upgrades for me until we hit Arthas and Hard modes. I have the crafted legs and boots from ICC, Mauridins Spyglass, The staff, I'm a tailor and engineer so I have those enchants, etc... I hit really hard, and with all the various set bonuses other procs I can quickly overwhelm the tanks. Sometimes during Herosim I'll do ABx3 instead of 4 because If that missile barrage crits after the 4th AB there is a good chance I'll pull threat. It's not like they haven't been gearing up as well, but it seems like they aren't scaling as well as I am. It's happening with our rouge as well but not as much. Interestingly the hunters don't seem to be scaling as much as we get new gear. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so what have you done.

We run with a Bear and DK Tank.

When are you using Invis?

I hadn't been using it before because it wasn't an issue. I guess I will have to start using it now.

Your tanks need to tighten up their threat rotations.

With MD, your tanks should be putting out 8k+ TPS (probably more, but I'm being generous) on a tank and spank single target. With your normal threat reducing talents, you should be able to crank out up to 13k DPS sustained and not pull.

What fights are you pulling aggro on, and how much DPS are you actually doing? Or is this purely an AoE / trash phenomenon?

One use at 75% Boss health and you should be good for the rest of the fight (at least, that's what EJ suggests). It is a few seconds of lost DpS, which sucks, but it is better in the long run since you are finding yourself threat capped. Just use it at 75%. I'm not sure at what point in the rotation you should hit it though.

Also, tossing another point into your -15% threat talent could always help, but it means sacrificing hit or pushback resistance.

You should never have an issue with pulling threat when the tanks are equally geared. This really comes down to the tanks not being that good. I run 10mans with a DK tank and a warrior tank and I never have issues. In 25man we have Druid/Warrior/DK tanks and I've never come close to pulling threat there either. Do you have arcane subtlety maxed out (40% less threat?) if so, then there shouldn't be a chance for you to pull. I start every fight with MI and never need to use Invis. The only time I've used it in ICC is during wipes to prevent dura and between phases on Professor so I can DPS while he RPs.

What Anobix said.

If you can cast invis at the beginning of the "Tear Gas" cast bar, you'll have a wiped aggro table and a few seconds of free DPS while everyone else is stunned.

You really shouldn't be pulling threat!

My armory would probably be helpful. I logged out in PVP Gear but you can see my arcane raid spec.

Your armory doesn't really matter--though it clarifies that you have -30% threat.

Your problem is just that your tanks suck at producing threat. Talk to your raid leader about getting them some education and pop Invis while you need to. It's way better than hitting your threat cap. 3 seconds of lost uptime < intentionally lowering your output during Heroism.

Hopefully, your tanks can learn their classes and remove your need to pop Invis at all (and let you take a point out of Arcane Subtlety if possible).

Good luck.^^

I think there might have been some changes to tanks in the patch that they are having to get used to, because I noticed that I am climbing higher on threat than I used to, so were a priest and lock, and the tanks were scratching their heads. Wed. nite was the first time I've had to use invis since ICC came out, other than the try not to die during a wipe thing, and on PP. But our 10man group also did not have any hunters or rogues, so that might have had something to do with it. It's very helpful to have md/tricks, in general. No trouble on 25man on Tuesday, though (we had hunters/rogues).

Have they gotten new ICC weapons yet?

Weapon == Threat

Is your rogue using Tricks on the tank, a dps or not at all? If he's not using it on the tank, ask him to do so.

As both a tank and a mage, I can confirm that you shouldn't be touching threat.

But do what they said and you should be fine.
