Hello everyone,
I won a drop in ICC 25 man last night as a Moonkin and I immediately assumed it was an upgrade but after gemming and enchanting I notice that most all of the stats are equal and even less than the two 251's I was currently raiding in. I know I have heard that a main hand/off hand pair was better for Moonkin class but I thought a higher item level would be worth it.....

New Item "Nibelung" 264
http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=49992
Less Crit
Less Haste
Less INT
No Hit <which puts me under soft cap>
And only a few points more SP <between 10-20 so basically nothing>
Procs Valkyr to fight for you for 30 seconds

Old Items "Lockjaw" 251 and "Scourgelords Baton" 251
http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=51004
http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=50781
More of all stats I mentioned above.
Even with no Gem slots the pair still net higher stats.

The pair gets me around 120 more gear score compared to wearing Nibelung.
Is the Valkyr really worth that much DPS that it is worth sacrificing stats?
The few times it has procced so far the damage was around 900-1300 per hit, which I have yet to test on a dummy for possible extra DPS compared to without it.

For now I am sticking with the old items cause I just cant see the benefit of Nibelung other than it looks badass.....

Any and all thought would be welcomed.
Cheers
Dued

Equip: Your harmful spells have a chance to cause you to summon a Val'kyr to fight by your side for 30 sec.

That eats ilevel.

From what I've heard:

Nibelung is at its best when used in an ae fest. The way it procs suits affle locks, casting speed helps those jocks. Frosty mages in blizzard rages also have it good, for when you need a pack to bleed, these gals stack up like wood.

Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

If I get one, I will use it until the end of the expac. The sheer fun factor of it makes me literally not care if I get something with better overall DpS. It would have to be better DpS and a crap ton of fun to beat the Nibel. :P

What everyone else said.

The Val'kyr from the proc do decent enough dps to bring the weapon up at least close to appropriate for it's ilvl. And I can testify from personal experience (friend of mine who groups with me for heroics got one two weeks ago), the damn thing's shrieks get annoying as hell after about ... 30 seconds. But you can innocently point to the DPS and say "they do 5% of my DPS, it helps the raid, we all have to live with it"... Chances to needle your friends should not be passed up blindly.

Well I guess Nibelung will be my Moonkin trash wep <when I am using starfall and hurricane often> and then I will swap out for the other gear for bosses.
Even if I were to use it for the bosses where the hell am I going to get enough hit to reach the soft cap, I'd practically have to change out every gem to + hit... must be a warlock thing...

Nibelung is considered BiS w/o hitting up any heroic mode.

From Elite Jerks

The [Nibelung] proc is strong. In an ideal situation, it will do somewhat more DPS than equal-ilvl weapons. The complication is that the Val'kyr can be killed by ordinary damage, so on some fights will they not add much DPS, making the weapon worse than a "normal" one. Overall a strong item, but keep your other options in mind at fights where it doesn't work well.

And I do have my 251's still for my healing set but am pretty much using Nibelung always now. Had 4 Valkyr guardians at once up which really boosted my dps!!

Hopefully get dreamwalker tonight!

Happy Hunting!

I use Nibelung as well now as my main boomkin weapon. I do have a 251 MH & OH, which give me slightly better stats, but after extensive testing on a dummy, I can safely say, that if you don't see a Valkyr proc, than your dps will be slightly lower than with the 251 MH/OH combo, but the difference isn't too bad. If, however, you do get a Valkyr (or even more than one, which doesn't only happen when AOEing, but also single target, especially if you keep your dots up), than your DPS will be a fair chunk higher than with the MH/OH combo. I am personally willing to take the risk of relying on something as random as proccing scourgebirds, for getting better dps, and more importantly, having more fun :D

On as sidenote: Nibelung is not so handy for doing your JC daily, or any other quest that involves killing mobs. When my valkyr is out, and she sees a mob, she insta-kills it, with no credit for me :P

I think our guild had a discussion about it and we settled on the fact that the Val'kyr did **** all damage. In response to this post I went sifting through our combatlogs to point out this fact and was pleasantly amused when seeing this. It's a log of an IcC-25 man run we had some time ago. If you click the arrow next to Kasdayes name you'll see that over all bosses done that evening his Val'kyr had a 20% uptime for at least 1K DPS (actually more like 1.1). Which is 'on average' about 200 DPS, but ends up literally being a 1K DPS increase in seperate bossfights, if it procs. And Kasdaye isn't exactly our best ranged DPS either - this all is with only 83% uptime on the players' end.

So yes, I'd say it is actually pretty damn decent.

Edit before actually posting: I think I just realized where my earlier confusion came from. The same lock used to have a weapon that spawned a Val'kyr as well, but I think that's the one from TotC. Which is in fact ****.
