What do you use more?Follow

@ 80, do you use the lv80 Arrows or Slugs more?

I've been leveling a lock and decided to level up engineering for funz. My end goal was she would be my Hunter's supplier for Arrows (a Troll Hunter who atm ahs the xbow from H.PoS).
Today I asked in trade if anyone (aimed at low lvl peeps) wanted some Hi-Impact Mith Slugs made (they supplied the mats, I just wanted skill ups).
A cool lv80 hunter gave me a good amount of mith ore and the blasting power it took. He said it was an investment in my skill to be raised for when I could make Shatter Rounds.
Well my skill is now at the point where I can/need to pick Gnome/Goblin engineering.
I don't play my Hunter anymore so being able to make the arrows or the slugs means nothing to me, but it got me wondering on what the Hunter's of WoW use.
Slugs or Arrows?

Should I use bows or guns?

Dwarfs should favor guns because of their racial bonus. The same for Trolls and bows. Engineers will probably favor guns because they can make their own (improved) ammo. For anyone else, it doesn't matter at all.

At lower levels, guns generally hit a little harder and bows fire a little faster. They have the same store-bought ammunition, and neither really has a distinct advantage over the other, except that engineers can make bullets. A hunter should know how to use either, and be prepared to use whatever the best weapon is that they can pick up, or whatever they personally prefer. (For example, some players don't like the constant noise a gun makes.)

To be honest, you might be better off with Iceblade Arrows when your skill is high enough, and those are Gnomish Engineering. There 3 fairly easy to get ranged weapons (a iLevel 245 crossbow, an iLevel 251 bow and an iLevel 264 bow) that a lot of raiding hunters are currently using, so if you're looking for pure money that'd be the way to go. Though, to be honest, the rounds don't really sell for much on my server at this point, so it might not be worth it either way.

BiS is a crossbow, so most likely iceblade arrows will be the best.

An ilvl 232 bow/xbow (Heroic Pit of Saron) is easier to get than an ilvl 232 gun (Twin Valks).
An ilvl 251/264 bow/xbow (Deathwhisper) is easier to get than an ilvl 251/264 gun (Blood Queen).
An ilvl 277 bow/xbow is easier to get than an ilvl 277 gun because the gun doesn't exist.

Seems like the market for arrows would be much bigger than the market for bullets. For bullets, it seems like you're targeting raiding dwarves who are fairly deep into ICC and maybe into hardmodes. Those guys are pretty hardcore - they probably have their own supplier.

However. My server is low population and has maybe 25 guilds making progress on ICC-25 and 10 on ICC-10 (nice coincidence) - and the top-level ammo market is so competitive (2.50-4.50 per 1000) that no one uses vendor ammo even for grinding anymore. It would have to be worse on servers that support a competitive raiding population.
