I love my mage but he's always been neglected behind my feral tank and shaman healer, both of whom are constantly in demand. But I looked up the other day and he has close to 150 emblems of frost sitting around. What should I spend them on?

I have been hesitating on the t10 gear because it seems to have little or no haste and therefore not be arcane friendly. In fact, I wonder if blizz wants mages in ICC to go arcane/fire since they started stacking crit on mage gear rather than haste. I guess I could buy the chest and belt, get myself the t9 head. But do folks have better ideas?

Step 1- Look at set bonuses.
Step 2- See that the 2pc bonus is 12% haste for 5 seconds, caused by an ability that you use every 6-8 seconds.
Step 3- Realize that 12% haste is 400 haste rating.
Step 4- Facepalm.

Plus, it has plenty of haste. 263 or something for 5 pieces (3 of them have it). And tons of gem sockets.

[EDIT]

Why in the world would the presence of crit on gear make you go Arcane/Fire? Or did you mean SWITCH to Fire?

Arcane/Fire still craves haste very heavily. It's the lack of spirit on T10 that worries me, personally.

That's funny, I'd just looked at the hands, seen no haste and groaned, then made a mental note to ask the mage forum about it. I guess I have my answer.

That 2-pc bonus doesnt turn me on so much, though. I've gone long stretches w/out getting a Missile Barrage proc. And I do worry abt the lack of spirit. Is it worth passing up higher item lvl stuff like http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=50997;source=live and http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=50974;source=live?

Ask Rawr?

Definitely ask Rawr, but just looking, I'd grab the helm, then when you get a few more badges, get the chest (or some other piece if it's a bigger upgrade, chest just looks like a big upgrade, eyeing it), then go from there. That way you can have the t10 2pc and still have the t9 2pc bonus while you're working on the other 2 t10 pieces. Alternatively, you could get the t9 helm and 2 other pieces of t10 for the t10/t9 bonuses. The bonus is really worth it. You might remember the times you've had stretches w/o MB, but you're probably just remembering them because they were painful, not because they happen more often. :)

I wouldn't go after any other frost badge gear until you get the 4pc. I think most folks are using off-set legs for t10 (though I think for some, it might be the gloves if they get the heroic drop). The saronite comes in handy for that (whew, need 8 for the leggings of woven death!).

You could stand to drop some (a lot) of hit, so keep that in mind.

re: spirit, yeah, I don't understand why they made it "interesting" for mages for a while, and then just ditched the whole idea, but we don't worry about stacking it at this time.

Thanks; yeah, hit's the bane of my existence. I may swap out the arcane hit talent.

Just remember, the talent points are not just hit, they're manas too.

Ok, to get rid of hit I will obviously ditch the hit trinket. But do I replace it with wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=40682 or wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=48724? I'm leaning more toward Sundial, sadly, though some extra mana would be useful in boss fights.

I know I should really just farm ToC for Abyssal Rune but I don't think I have the patience.

I'm extremely confused by your gearing/gemming. Both of your trinkets are awful (nevermelting is a bad mage trinket, I don't know why so many people go for it). you gemmed for straight haste which should never be done, yellow slots are 99% of the time going to be haste/spellpower (reckless), blue will be spellpower/spirit (purified), your leg enchant should be spellpower/spirit not stam. Gemmed for the set bonus in the boots which is really lackluster.

Here's some quick numbers:
Gem for a set bonus (specifically if there are blue gems) if either:
a) it gives you +7 spellpower or more
b) you need a blue gem for your meta

Otherwise you are better off gemmning spellpower.

At higher gear levels yellows aren't bad to gem reckless in at any real time, just look at the set bonus and TC it out.

Again, as idig said, this is what Rawr is for.

Well I have a buggy Mac that won't take Rawr. And until last month I had never raided w this toon, so my trinket options were (and still are) quite limited. But thanks for the advice.
