I just traded out Slow to make sure I have 100% pushback resistance after doing some EJ reading and after we picked up a second hunter, meaning I don't have to use it on Saurfang anymore. (Sadly, not enough pallies in our group for concentration aura.)

I realize that Slow is not a traditional arcane raiding talent, but I found it useful. Does anyone else use it raiding, or do I need to simply accept that it's gone?

This is kinda the opposite of what you normal expect. Most people want to forgo utility and focus only on DpS, and have to be forced into the support talents by the raid and class leaders, lol.

I say you should just be happy that they would rather have you DpSing than focusing on control.

I actually have it in my build (picked it up a couple weeks ago to help with DBS actually). I only sacrificed one point and it is somewhat helpful (not only for blood beasts but also for LD for the corrupted fanatics that hit really hard).

seriously though
people go for the 6% haste but honeslty 12 extra haste is not worth surviving when the tank goes down during trash.......and you apply slow
plus you can do wintergrasp a lot easier as well.

Or, you know, your tank could not go down during trash.

you're kidding, right?

Oh and with 800 haste an additional 6% adds a coupe % haste for me. Oh and as if I would drop a dps talent for slow...

Anobix, whatever URL shortener you've got in your sig, it's being jacked by ZAM's content filters. Shows up as 'cannotlinkto.com'

It works now, yeah. Though if you want to keep the old content you could try another one, bit.ly is good.

A bunch of keylogger attempts came through using tiny url a few years back, iirc.

what's this about getting 100% pushback resist, i havent heard anything about it what would the point be? is it worth five points?

It isn't really worth the 5 points, but many people put 3 in, as you should be getting concentration aura from paladins to give you 100% pushback resistance. It can make a difference, definitely as if you take damage it can prevent one of your arcane missiles from firing or lessen your evocation. It is pretty situational but if you have the points to spread around for it and the fight leads to you taking some pushback (marrowgar for instance with the whirlwind) then it can be considered.

ah i see now, but wouldnt it just be better to time your evo and such to not get hit by the WW that way you can put the points somewhere else? just curious. like would 2 points in magic attunement for the range be better or does that not get you out of the Ww range? sorry havent gotten a chance to go to icc yet been kinda busy

I personally took the range as there are a lot of fights where spreading out is required and being able to be in either the front back or middle of the group is helpful. It doesn't just benefit evocation as pushback also slows your casting of any of your spells and can slow/interrupt your channeled spells (evocation and arcane missiles for instance).

Again, it really depends on what you want to work for. For instance, SOTM is the worst dps point-for-point of the 'dps talents' in the arcane tree, if you have points in there you can put them into pushback or other places.

Clipping missiles and increasing your cast time on arcane blast turns out to be pretty bad for your damage, particularly the missiles. Any interruption loses you a big chunk of damage on that spell because you just don't get the missiles off.

My guild was working on Rotface and now Putricide, where there's a lot of raid damage, lots of things like expanding slime pools, damaging auras and explosions. Would it be better to not take any damage? Yup. Do I expect that to happen any time soon? Nope.

Also, as pointed out in the EJ thread, the common spec of 3 points in pushback reduction (60%) plus a non-healer Paladin concentration aura (35%) doesn't fix the missile clipping problem as any clipping will lose you a set of missiles.

Does it help? Well I don't need Slow on Putricide and I don't seem to have range problems. Of course, Putricide isn't down yet (had him at 200k on one wipe...arg), maybe I'll try something else next week. I don't have numbers, but I'd estimate I'm getting ~5% increase *at most* from this.
