I actually do have a novel idea in the works, I've had it written down for a few years now, but I don't really have the drive or the time to sit down and actually write. I've got enough on my plate right now as it is with school, friends, WoW, and work. Neat idea though.

Heh. I'd do it, but I honestly don't have the skill. I'd probably pull out some kind of crappy fantasy/scifi mashup comedy/drama/action abomination that would put My Immortal to shame.

NaNo is not about skill. Skill is for revising in January. NaNo is about stream of consciousness and caffeine.

Then it sounds like I may stand a chance. Time to start brainstorming.

I'm feeling unicorns. And rainbows. And Death Knights.

I think I have an idea.

I should do this NaNoWriMo thing once I'm out of languages to learn.

Then I can build in obscure references to currant pudding with cream and chocolate sprinkles. I could probably write 50000 words about awesome food alone.

There's the spirit!

If you really decide to do it, there's a guild on US-Misha called <NaNoWriMo Procrastinator> for encouragement, commiseration, procrastination, Deadmines runs, etc. If you ever feel like checking it out here's a linkto info. I haven't logged on since last November but I'm Misspell when I'm there. And yes, I started the guild originally and the typo in the name is my fault, but it's time to put that behind us.

You should do a NaNo in every language!

Do they accept them in languages other than English?

Either way, I was more thinking doing it Tolstoy-style, letting people talk in their usual language of choice in reality (or making up some Danish elves and Dutch fairies) and making it slightly more readable with footnotes in English.
The funny thing is, that exact practice is why I could never really get into War and Peace. I just got my copy from my mum's though, maybe I'll give it another try soon.

Yep.

You bet! We are very proud to be an international event, and don't consider the "National" in the title to refer to the United States. This is an event for all nations. We'd change the name to "International Novel Writing Month," but InNoWriMo doesn't roll off the tongue in quite the same way.

You can write novels in any language you like. Our validator doesn't handle non-Latin characters sets, sadly, so there may be an issue with becoming an official winner. But this is just icing on the NaNoWriMo cake, and we encourage you to write in whatever language is most comfortable for you.

It's a made-up contest with no prizes, so they don't enforce any rules anyway. I could send them 50,000 words of "All work and no play make Teacake a very dull girl" and their validator would still call me a winner. But that would be a ***** to revise later, wouldn't it?

My language of choice for writing is still English, anyway.

German is limited in ways I notice too much because I speak the language too well and still can't express all my thoughts (not anymore, anyway).
Dutch is cool for rants about WW2 (that's how I got my A) but I'm not really fluent in it.
Danish is... in the works. Right now, I can say write "Hey guys, how are you? It's raining. Thanks. I am bored. Redcurrant pudding with cream! Cheese! Special offer! One two nine ten, raccoon, go away, come here! He is with mustard. Exactly!", which is really cool and makes me giggle when I write it down in English, and there are a few other words, but I can't really make a novel out of that in any way.

You could make the whole novel just out of those two.

OST! TILBUD! OST! TILBUD!

Great idea. I can do that in more languages, too. At least it would be creative.

You and your extra languages.

I took Spanish for four years, and all I remember is "Me llamo Paco" "Está nublado" and "¡Yo tengo tres gatos en mis pantalones!"

I get the most use out of the last one, strangely enough.

On another note, I currently have brownies in the oven. With Symphony bars in them.

Symphony bars are made by Hershey, but you don't see them around often. They're basically a milk chocolate bar with toffee bits and almonds in them. The brownies already had chocolate chips, so this is going to be gooey, crunchy and delicious.

I think she's German, but I could be wrong there. She's lived in many different places and I get confused easily.

She's German, invading the rest of Europe like Germans do.

Eh, I like Germans. Worked with one when I had that brief stint as Emergency Services manager on that island. The same firm also handled security, and was asked to provide security at a port. Now, the US military was on their way to dock and bring a ton of troops to one of those arctic exercises where they get their frozen behinds kicked around by us Norwegians.

Anyway, he (the German) was the one at the gate that day, and hadn't heard anything about this. So of course, here comes the entire US naval force and starts wanting out of the dock. He raises an amused eyebrow, adopts his best damn Gestapo face and goes "Papers bitte..."

After playing chinese student for a while, papers and authorization finally shows, and my boss asks him why he was so adamant in his resistance. He had quite as simple reply. "Sir... as a german, I'm sure as hell not going to be responsible for the second burning of northern Norway..."

Said with the most deadpan face ever.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kalivha. It's just that she invades other countries because that's what Germans do.

She'd probably do it with cookies though.

In which case, I for one welcome our new overlords.
