A couple of 3.3 burning questionsFollow

Well 3.3 has hit and ive got a couple of choices to make;

1) Enchant weapon: Mighty spellpower (63SP) Vs Enchant weapon: Black magic (250 haste proc)

I'm destro so insanely buffed corruption aside im not sure which is better. I tested a general proc rate using a general destro rotation for 3 minutes, i did this 3 times and each time it procced 5 times. so 50 seconds out of 180 seconds is what? 28% uptime? making the 250 haste proc average out to around 65 static haste which i know is much worse than the 63 SP enchant. If someone would like to clean up my fail math or tell me my whole research method is flawed that would be lovely.

2) Dying curse (71 hit + 765 SP proc) Vs Nevermelting Ice Crystal (111 SP and 920 crit (-184 per crit) activation/3min)

Again im destro so insanely buffed corruption aside i dont know which is better. I'm fairly hit flexible at the moment so i really can choose which is better dps-wise but ive seen no hard figures on how good nevermelting ice crystal is for my spec. i dont plan on spending 1000s on gems to try testing this out though.

anything you have to add either of these two subjects is greatly appreciated.

1) From what I have read about the Black Magic enchant, it has a duration of 10 seconds, an internal cooldown of 35 seconds, and a 50% proc chance. Assuming an average spell cast time of 1.5 seconds, I calculated an uptime of about 26.3%, which is a little less than what you determined. In 180 seconds of combat, the buff should be up approximately 47 seconds, which correlates to your observations, though the sample size is still small. This calculated out to a static haste rating of around 65.79, but this is based on a few assumptions as stated above and doesn't account for things such as the actual fight time, instant proc from first spell cast, etc.

Since I don't know your exact spec or stats, it's a little hard to say which is better, but generally speaking the Mighty Spellpower enchant will probably be better dps-wise.

2) Again, this really depends on your current itemization. Hit is very valuable until you are capped, then it doesn't contribute to your dps at all. Also, Nevermelting Ice Crystal has a static, constant spellpower increase and an on-use crit effect which can be managed during a fight, whereas Dying Curse has a spellpower effect that is a proc, so it can occur during a fight at a sub-optimal time, such as when you need to move out of fire, etc. Essentially, this is hard to answer without an armory link because it depends on your specific situation.

From what I've read on other WoW forums, the black magic enchantment is only possibly better then the sp enchant, for affliction locks. Demo and destro locks should still be going with a spellpower enchantment.

As for the trinkets, if you can do away with the Dying Curse and still be hit capped, I'd personally do it. Like Fenris said, it has a chance to higher your spellpower, but I'd rather take a trinket that has a constant spellpower boost, along with a crit bonus, when I use it.

That said... I need to get myself one. lol

Haste and spellpower have equal stat values for Destruction at togc25 gear level and haste actually pulls ahead at end ICC gear level, therefore 65haste > 63 Spellpower.

Affliction / Destruction: Black Magic
Demonology: Spellpower
