I have this burning desire to level. Leveling, to me, is more fun then raiding, running heroics, and the like, even though that is fun too. Due to this, I recently dusted off my mage, a character I hadn't really seriously played since I dinged 70 in BC days. Grabbed some nice gear (or better than what I had, at least), from my tailor priest, got a decent spec going, then picked up Cold Weather Flying. I'm now level 74, and from what I understand, Frostfire Bolt comes at 75. My question is, should I try an elemental type build to take full advantage of FFB? Would that replace Frostbolt if I didn't? I don't really know what I should do once I ding 75, hopefully tomorrow. Thanks for any advice!

Here's my armory, for those of you who are good at that sort of thing. I kinda went with instinct on my frost spec, but mostly followed the guide in the sticky here for my fire build.
Armory!

I've found that it's not as easy to take advantage of FFBs soloing capabilities until you're nearly level 80(level 77 is where I find you have the minimum of what I'd suggest for a Frostfire build), so I'd hold off on switching til then. Additionally, you'll lose a fair number of your current build's utility spells in order to take on the the burning power of FFB.

As for whether FFB will take the role currently played by Frostbolt, if you keep a frost focused build, my answer is that likely it will not. There are a couple reasons for this, but the most glaring are that you're lacking Ignite and have at least two talents that boost Frostbolt's power while not helping FFB at all(Winter's Chill's 3% bonus crit chance and Empowered Frostbolt, in case you're wondering).

Further to what Pold said, pure frost and frostbolt spam in my opinion is the easiest and most fun (maybe that is just me, I found soloing elites easier than with my druid...even I thought that that was crazy) spec to level with. Water Elemental is invaluable, as is its ranged Frost Nova.

Thank you folks, invaluable advice dispensed, as usual! Now, when the realms come back up, my mage will continue to blast his way through Northrend!
