level 75+ chest that ISN'T a "robe"Follow

I notice that most crafted patterns for chest cloth sets before the 70's tend to have both a "robe" and a "vest" version.
However, I am now looking to upgrade my Lock's gear and am noticing that there is a paucity of "non-robe" chest pieces available.
To be perfectly honest, it's for a very silly reason: I don't like walking around in a ballgown (male toon).

So, the question is: are there really no vest-style cloth chest armor pieces after level 75?

(p.s. I don't BG, nor Raid, nor PvP... boring I know, so what I wear is what I can make, or what I can buy off a vendor or get as a quest reward)

Hmm, after a quick search the only item 75+ that isn't a robe is the Frost-Rimed Cloth Vest which is the gray random world drop which will do you no good. Looks like your stuck in a "ballgown".

Honestly, I'd rather have a robe for my cloth wearers. The cloth vest and pants combo always seemed boring, that's what I wear everyday. It never had as much detail as the leather through plate items did and cloth pants usually look horrible.
I remember when I was wearing the lvl 70 shadoweave set, it looked stale, unimportant, like a regular peon. Then they changed it to a robe and the details on the robe came out more and it's just seemed to fit better.
So I choose to wear a ballgown on my male toon and if the other people at the ball don't like it I can always set them on fire and feed them to my felhound.

I prefer robes for my lock and other caster classes. It just looks right, to me.

I just wish that robes had the tabards layer better. Having the tabard cut off at the belt is horrible looking.

/sigh

had I known, I'd have called my Warlock "RuPaul".

oh, and the pants/vest looks SO much better than a "robe" when you're wearing a nice-looking tabard :p

If you're that worried about your looks, why not use a robe when doing some actual gaming and equip a 74- good looking vest while not?

That sounds a very reasonable compromise. I might do that myself.

I think i have the opposite complaint , as all my alts are female both horde and allied why is it other than cloth wearers it is usually only pants and vest available ?

My view is roll a female cloth wearer and it looks better ,hehe even if a few races do still look a bit macho.

well, thank-you all for the suggestions.

I guess I made a male toon because I'd rather look at a male character than a female... and I'd rather my male toon wasn't a drag queen.
I do have some female toons, and don't mind them being in ball-gown style robes.

It just seems odd that there are both robe and vest versions of most major recipes along the way to level 70, but that after level 70, all that's available is robes. Leveling up, I could mostly choose the robe or the vest version of the sets I made (Tailoring), and presumed it would be the same all the way to 80.

I guess I will learn to adapt.

Personally, however, since I think our guild tabard is quite attractive (white with blue trim), I like how it looks over a vest considerably more than over a robe. The whole "tucked into the skirt" thing is just incredibly unattractive.

there are other tabards :P also a robe isn't 'feminine', it's the appropriate attire for a magic based, ranged class (going by all the lore and films and books etc.. through out history which depict people like that wearing such stuff).. actually it's only been the past few hundred years that such attire has become less and less common for people to wear on a day to day basis.. but historically speaking such clothing has been worn alot more than 'shirt and pants'...

Now if only I could get my toon some teeth made of wood and a crappy looking hair piece made of animal hair I'd be set to look historically accurate, you know, aside from my hands being on fire and an imp constantly giving me crap.

take some shrooms, it'll add to the realism, both in historical diets and what you see

actually, so far, I've always had a choice between vest/tunic and a robe, with identical stats, or nearly so (many sets have both tunic and robe versions of the chest piece).

and I see nothing either wrong or "ridiculous" about wearing a chest piece that isn't a robe. Do Paladins look ridiculous? Or Hunters? or Death Knights? Rogues? Warriors?

Since the option exists throughout MOST of the game as you level, I'm perplexed as to why it suddenly changes at level 75+.

because they realised that adding in pointless gear is pointless. and that gear works on those classes because it's what you would expect them to wear...

the option changed because it's pointless having pointlessly identical gear that only has a visual difference.. prior to 75 (and tbh, between 60 and 75 there's alot less 'equal' gear like that than before 60 when they thought it'd be fun to have pointless stuff in the game just for the role-players... lol)

It didn't just change at 75+, you just notice that now because the level cap is 80. At level 60 and 70 the pants/shirt combo disappears as well, you just wouldn't have noticed it as much as you were leveling past and not picking up or making the old end game stuff.

The pants/shirt combo is like the scrub gear for a caster, someone sees it and they don't think much of them(Imagine if Merlin wore a t-shirt and jeans), but the decorated robe gives people notice, "be careful of that guy in the robe, I heard he could make your eyes pop out just by snapping his fingers". For casters the robe is a status symbol and it makes non casters weary because they never truly know what your capable of. A shirt and pants makes people think "Why is that peon carrying a wand?"

actually, the Netherweave set starts becoming available just below level 70.

And I rather LIKE not being so "obvious" with the loud, overly-decorated robe.

"Hey, why's that peon carrying a wa..."
*splat*

There ya go.. subtle, confusing, pants and tunic... never crossed his mind that it was death on two legs.

if you honestly think people will mistake one class for another in pvp (and still be a threat at pvp..) then you're seriously mistaken and diluded...heck if i were to come up against a 2v2 or 3v3 team who were to actually fall for that trick i'd ask my pvp partner to stand back while i solo the noobs.

the most you can ever hope for in that sense is when a hybrid class wears the head/shoulders of one of their other specs in pvp to TRY and make the opposing team think the dps is actually a healer (or vica versa) and well.. this doesn't work often and when it does it only works for the opening few seconds.. after that it becomes obvious what spec you are

I was gunna make a post saying the the netherweave set isn't exactly endgame but I remembered that you don't raid or bg so I'll give you that one. However, in the end we are going to be wearing robes, it's just what spell casters have always worn in this type of fantasy setting. If this was a game set in modern day new york or something I could see them wearing normal clothes, but in a game where everything is over the top spell casters are going to wear robes as that's how people envision the most powerful casters in any fantasy setting.

On a different note, you might enjoy this video, it's old and of a mage, but it has the same opinion and dresses.

I guess you didn't read the whole thread.
I don't PvP. I don't raid. I barely do instances.

and the concept of "humor" is alien to you?
read the preceding post. it was a tongue-(firmly planted)-in-cheek retort.

Considering I have an 8-ft tall demon walking by my side, I think it would be rather difficult to masquerade as anything OTHER than a Warlock.

(p.s. "deluded" not "diluded")

only in your opinion.
remember that humour is relative.

who's talking about role-playing?

I merely asked if there was a "short" version of the cloth chestpiece available after level 70-ish.
I'm the one who has to look at my toon.
I would have liked to see him NOT in a robe.
I've avoided wearing robes through most of the game on my male cloth-wearing toons.

It was a question.
About a cosmetic issue.

It seems here that the person taking this far too seriously is you, the "non-RPer".

I tend to laugh at people who take the game too seriously.
See?
We all have different things to laugh at... meaning it's all relative.

Take a chill-pill and relax a bit.
If this thread bothers you so much, then why participate?

I got the answer I needed.
Someone joked. I joked back.
You didn't think it was funny. Did you really need to be a ***** about it?

I guess that Alla gets its occasional O-boards visitors?

lol, you're the one getting worked up by this.. i'm just teasing you for making stupid requests :P

if you can't cope with seeing your guy in a dress (homophobe) then re-roll another class or a female lock (or use the soon/now available feature to change your characters sex/race etc..).. you could also get one of the 3rd party programs that changes the way your character looks, so you could make your dress into a very MANLY and STRONG and not at all feminine looking bit of plate armour ;)

So you don't want a robe because you don't want to cover up your character's butt?

Because you want to look at it all the time.

Your male toon's butt.
