Is Unholy realy that bad?Follow

I was running a H Toc the other day and one of the dps told me "Why are you in unholy talent tree. You should be in blood, you would gain up to 500 dps." I was wondering what your guys ideas about this are. Is what he is say correct, or is unholy fine for dps. Before the last patch unholy blight made it worth going unholy but with that move no longer causing aoe damage I am not sure if it is still worth it.
For a reference this is my current talent tree: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Akama&cn=Kymon&gn=Dark+Wrath

I was barely breaking 2k DPS in Unholy, but now I'm up to 2.5k in Blood. Not bad for a talent switch, in my opinion.

Ultimately, if you enjoy Unholy and find that you feel more comfortable with that spec then I suggest you keep it. Otherwise, stack up on armor penetration and go nuts with Blood.

After reading the patch notes for Unholy changes since I took a break 4 months ago... I'm astounded.

I have NO CLUE what Blizz wants to do with the tree. They get rid of its AoE potential. They don't give it better ST DpS...

That said, you'd get a LOT more DpS out of your build if you fixed your glyphs and talents. I haven't played in a whole patch, and I can see HUGE holes in it. For one, why are you using Glyph of Dark Death?

Secondly, I imagine taking two points out of Desecration and putting it in Necrosis would be a nice boost. That's 8% more Auto Attack damage. Lose Magic Suppression to finish Necrosis and/or fill out Ravenous Dead (Why bother getting perma-ghoul AND Ghoul Frenzy if you are just gonna ignore boosting the strength it gets from you by SIXTY PERCENT). You can get the last point by taking one out of Epidemic.

This seems to be the EJ recommended Unholy build.

This rotation.

I've yet to go back and see what my Blood numbers are at 79 + the gear I have.
But When i returned to WoW (about 3 weeks ago) I speced blood, didn't like the feel - went back to Unholy, watched my DPS drop some but liked the feel - to doing a Frost DPs (there is a thread about bloodwroms, i posted about it in there) and have enjoyed it so far.

I'm at 1.5k DPS in some crafted gear. Nothing too great (as I'm still leveling and haven't ran many instances with Gear in mind).

Me w/ the Frost Spec

There are a few big holes in your build. There is no need at all for Corpse Explosion, Desecration, Magic Suppression, Ghoul Frenzy, Outbreak, or Scourge Strike. The last two aren't needed because for the moment, Oblit is a better attack for Unholy than Scourge Strike (though in 3.2.2 Scourge will be back on top supposedly). As for your glyphs, Dark Death is good because it will help your UB damage. The other two glyphs should be replaced with Glyph of Obliterate and Glyph of the Ghoul. These will up two major portions of your dps. A better build would be this. The RP generation with this build is far superior to the standard SS build as you'll be getting 25 RP per Oblit as opposed to 20 per SS, not to mention you'll get an extra 10 RP when you refresh your diseases.

Oh, sorry, that is the build I linked from EJ. But I didn't notice that is was labeled as the top-DpS Unholy spec for 3.2.2.

For the current patch, it lists 5 different viable builds. I'm not linking all of them. 2 builds for two-handers and 3 for dual wield.

I was always told (thought I read once) that Blood is only worth having if you have really good gear. Then again this might have been said back when 213 Naxx was the IN gear. There has been alot of changes to DK's since I last heard that.

Mine is unholy and I have subpar gear at best since I haven't played my DK nearly as much as my Mage. I can still do over 2kDPS in heroics and around 3k in raids. This is with titansteel weapon and a mixture of 200 epics/blues. Only raids I do with this toon is the occational OS.

Unholy will work pretty well for you at your gear level. Once you start into T7.5 and Ulduar gear, Blood becomes far superior. 2-H Frost is somewhat viable, but it pales to even Unholy. DW frost requires good weapons, but is just a little inferior to 2-H blood
