Insect Swarm’s -hit doesn’t work with...?Follow

I’m trying to decide between Glyph of Insect Swarm and Glyph of Starfall for my PVE moonkin’s third major slot--the other two are Moonfire and Starfire, naturally.

I seem to remember that IS’s reduction to hit, which the glyph removes, doesn’t stack with some other debuff that’s usually around in raid settings. What debuff is that? Know will help me decide whether I should take the glyph, since I’ll be running mostly heroics for some time and I know what class specs I’ll usually be playing with.

Seriously, that debuff isnt so great. It`s cool, but the dps boos the glyph does is well worth it. Unless you have a wussy tank. Starfall glyph isnt bad, but isnt as good as IS one.

Doing a little more research, I found the only other debuff that overlaps with this is hunters' Scorpid Sting. Since hunters lose more DPS from using Scorpid instead of Serpent than we do from not glyphing, I think I'll go for Starfall for my tank's sake--she's new to the role and gearing up, and so could use the extra avoidance from my IS.

-3% hit is pretty nice for tanking, in my experience. Death Knights who go Frost can spend three talent points to get the same benefit, though it only applies to melee hits. I went with the glyph, though, because I don't have a static group yet and most PUGs I run have well-geared tanks in them.

I don't know if it's one of my addons, but I get a GearScore on items now. Pretty nice when you need a quick view of someone's overall gear level. My Druid just passed 4000, which is pretty decent. Most tanks I've run with have around 4200. For comparison, someone who just hit level 80 and have mostly quest rewards and AH blues would be at around 2600-2800.

I've run heroics as a healer with tanks that had a GearScore of 4600, which was pretty boring because they were all Death Knights (Blood) and their selfheals was pretty much enough to sustain them, even on boss fights. An example was Krystallus in Halls of Stone Heroic. Our entire group, except the tank, got instagibbed on the petrify thing (first time there, I had no idea what to do to avoid it). I actually died three times on that boss fight and the only healing I got in on the tank was a Rejuvenation, Swiftmend and a NS-Regrowth, before I was shattered again. He took down that boss using mainly his own abilities. On a run like that, we probably could've done it all faster if I'd just gone Moonkin and backup healed once in a while. The -3% hit would've been nigh useless due to his insane avoidance.

I've also run heroics with tanks that had a GearScore of 2500. That was pretty interesting, because if I missed a heal they would die before I could get the next one off. On one of those tanks I'd most definitely have preferred -3% hit there as it would've given me a chance to get a second heal off before the guy crapped out.

If you run with a static group and you don't have a -hit bot, and the tank is gearing up, I'd probably go with the Starfall glyph as well. I use Starfall a lot and on large group pulls, popping Starfall and spamming Hurricane (with ~300 haste rating) spikes my DPS to around 3500 as opposed to 2000 on bosses and regular pulls. An increase in Starfall damage would probably add quite a lot of DPS to that, not to mention the reduces radius would make me less worried about having to watch where I'm standing.

Hate it when one of those stars fall on a distant group of mobs.

On most occasions 10% of my dps comes from Insect Swarm.

Yeah, you can run w/o the glyph but I really feel that pending the situation you could switch the glyph in and out. More adds, go with starfall. Less adds go with insect swarm.

Perhaps I'll attempt to test this at some point.

There's two different Starfall glyphs. One increases damage and decreases radius (Glyph of Focus) and one decreases cooldown (Glyph of Starfall). You recommend the former?

As far as I know Mazra, most people use the gear score number from Wow-heroes. I'm not entirely sure how they come up with the number, but it doesn't get as high as 4000. The highest person on my server has 2700 something, and my guild is requesting a 2300 minimum gear score level to get into the progression night runs for Ulduar and ToC.

I have this add-on myself. Gives the gear score for any raid member. You can also mouse-over anyone you happen to pass by, and it will tell you their gearscore. My understanding is that this score is related to the total ilvl of the items they are wearing. Whereas the wow-heroes score is adjusted and weighted in an attempt to make it relevant for PvE; i.e. PvP gear of the same ilvl is rated lower, and there are extra points for enchants @ wow-heroes.

While the highest people on my server may have a wow-heroes score of 2,700ish, this is more akin to a score of 5,000 with the gearscore addon.

Yeah, I like to inspect people just to see, but the addon does give you a good idea if you're going to get carried through or have to work your *** off.

Gearscore mod on Curse

Looks interesting, keeps a record of peoples gear and can tell you who a drop would be a bigger upgrade for (based only on iLvl etc, so need to use your brain as well :) )

2264 on WoW-heroes. 4240 or so with GearScore.

Got the dagger and leather leggings from H-TotC, bought the emblem gloves (cloth ones) and instantly went up 200 points on GearScore. I'm now considered epic, apparently, because my score is purple.
