So im comin back to WoW an using the RaF im goin to be leveling a priest. Frist of let me start by saying thanks to all the people who have made stickies and quides. They are quite helpful. My friend will be some form of tank. My main question is if i go Shadow will i have any trouble keeping him alive while helpin DPS mobs down?

Nope.

Bear in mind that it's pretty easy to level solo; your friend shouldn't need all that much healing when you're just questing. You can go for the convenience of the best DPS with Shadow, so you can get through the mobs faster, or you can go for the convenience of the best healing with Disc or Holy, so you can fight an unlimited number at once and without ever resting. Of course, Shadow can heal and Disc and Holy can DPS as well, just not quite as well.

The choice is a matter of personal preference, unless you want to consider running a lot of instances on the way up, which case having a tank/healer combo is nice.

Ok thanks. That what i was thinking but its always nice to get other opions also. We are mostly just goin to quest so ill just go shadow an we can mow through the tedious collection mobs.

Make sure to jump and spin while casting DoTs. While not the same as doing it with Holy Nova it still helps the leveling process.

Oh yeah, I lived. I just looked stupid.

Which of course is why I'm telling you people. The stories about how I kicked *** and did everything right are not nearly as interesting, don't you think?

Hmmmmm...

Yesterday I had a 25-man raid to first VoA, then TotC, then Ulduar. In VoA we started off with Koralon who'se Flame Breath hit for more than I expected, but nobody died except a warlock who went AFK as we engaged and stood in a fire. TotC was fairly easy as well, we 1-shot everything until Anub'Arak where we had some problems. First we wiped due to the adds not dying fast enough, then we wiped due to two other healers (looking at you, druid and shaman) constantly topping everyone off in P3 causing Anub'Arak to heal for loads and enrage at 6%. Eventually we got him though, so we went for Freya in our old Ulduar lock-out. Our DPS somehow seem to develop down syndrome whenever we do her on 25-man and completely fail at killing the 3 adds at the same time, and so we wiped 2 or 3 times. The fourth time we managed to get it right though, with me standing off in a corner casting a couple of Penances and Flash Heals on the main tank. Freya died and we got loot. I then uploaded the combatlog and noticed I did alright on the meters as well.

No, you're right. It makes for excellent small talk, though.

Gogo Smite spec for leveling, it's awesome! Smiley: grin

Pick up Spirit Tap > Meditation > Surge of Light and then continue on in Disc.
Glyph of Smite is a necessity, but thanks to it's rare use also cheap.
And certainly at the earlier levels, Smite spec is going to outperform Shadow, I leveled together with a friend as shadow from 1-35 and I ran OoM insanely quick from getting only half the killing blows and DoTs costing craptons of mana.

Do note that I have a weird love for hybrid builds, but I'm still happily leveling with this spec at level 73.

Well he decided on a ret pally so we wont have any trouble killing anything. Ill look into that smite spec. Hit 13 lastnight an i love spirit tap.

Keep in mind that Spirit Tap might not be as good if you're playing with a retardin - he'll be swinging hammers to take mobs from 20% to dead and it'll be a lot harder for you to get the KB. Unless you mention it and work something out of course.

Leveling with a warrior I tried it with and without Spirit Tap to experiment with it. Spirit Tap is, IMO, still worth it. Between dots snagging the killing blow and smiting down runners, I end up getting it maybe every 3rd kill and that's just enough to keep me from drinking. If I start getting low on mana I just tell him to let me kill the next one and he'll back off when it's about half health, easy enough.

Although, hopefully you're Horde, because Arcane Torrent every 2 minutes is a nice topper too. :)
