Boomkin DPS AVG vs. other classesFollow

So I started WoW back up a few days ago. At the ripe level of 73 I decided to have fun and go do a H Arcatraz for old time's sake. We 4-manned it and all the other members were level 80s. We had a druid healing, warrior tank, and ret pally dps.

I'm looking at the dps meters and I'm in 2nd place, doing about 1.3k dps. The pally(lvl80) is doing about 2k. At level 80, in epics, shouldn't he be outdoing me by a lot more? Was he just exceptionally bad or what? From what I've been reading many peoples dps for raids are in the 4k+ range. I know we didnt have raid buffs, but still....

So, what is average dps for boomkins fresh to 80, and how do other classes stack up?

It really all depends on the player playing the lazerchicken. 5 man content is not that good an example of what a dps can pull because things die to fast. As for boomkins I very rarely seem them at the very top of the meters but they will get up there. From time to time you will see one on top (sometime by a fair margin) but it is very RNG based. Thats about all I can tell you seeing as I have played boom for a total of 2 hours, you need Arex for more detailed information.

All epics plus 5 man should be pushing 2k. So the pally was fine depending on the level of his epics.

Also the 'It's just a 5 man, I can slack off,' factor applies as well.

In my healing gear with a pair of +crit bracers and a Moonfire idol, I do around 2100 to about 2500 on bosses.

I have a hit rating of 33, but I do have 2/2 Balance of Power.

To be fair, level 80 heroic mobs die fast now to a group of well geared 80's. I can't imagine what level 70 heroic mobs do. Also, they just nerfed Ret Pallies so their dps isn't what it used to be.

I can just stroll in, do nothing but spam swipe and still do 3k + while drinking a beer with one hand, smoking a cigar with the other and using my feet to play....

Just saying....

True, I just did some heroic farming with two Ret Pallies. Their gear score was around 4500 compared to my 3300 or so, but they only did around 2500 DPS - in CoT: Culling of Stratholme.

Though, I must admit, my Druid never reached near those numbers on Swipe spam. Smiley: tongue

If I'm on a straight stand and nuke fight I'll do about 6.5k-7k dps. If I really keep my rotation tight and do it all right I can get up over 7k. On Gormok in ToC I peaked out at about 8.5k dps and then leveled out to about 6.5k

As for stacking up, if you put yourself into an optimal raid comp, and everyone's skill level is the same boomkins should really be somewhere between 6-13 on recount if you put them up against other classes. They aren't near the best class for dps, look at warlocks and rogues for the best.

But, you need to remember there are quite a few factors that will determin how well people do. Placement from the beginning of a fight to the movement, the targets that need to be attacked.

Boomkins are really actually pretty different when it comes to most dps classes. We rely heavily on just one talent, our rotation is very much like that of a destro lock and we have the only cast and forget aoe spell the game has... Well, unless you count shamans fire nova totem, but that sucks so much so it doesn't matter.

All in all, you'll top charts from time to time. But don't expect to do it a lot.

I would not recommend firing Starfall and then forgetting about it. That thing has one wicked radius and you might end up pulling stuff not in the immediate area. Probably not the case in raid scenarios, but as a general note, you should fire Starfall and then remind yourself that it's there. Smiley: tongue

Aw yeah, I suppose a little side note about starfall should be in order.

But in ToC, it doesnt matter. No trash!

Where does Boomkin sit in relation to Feral dps? The ugly kid sister or hot twin?

It's really really near each other, with feral a little bit above. If the feral plays well.

Hmm... Starfall surprise moments. Occassionally when doing 5-man heroics to gear up new level 80's my guild lets me boomkin rather than heal. Hit Starfall in Nexus(h) just before the lovely lady belf mage who has multiple personalties. Seemed to pull the whole instance. A good test for the new wannabe tank but alas he failed miserably. It was only 15 mobs (stupid patrol got in on the act too).

In halls of stone, when you first walk into the hallway with the little gruul/stone wannabe boss dude. If you hit starfall right where you drop down from after killing the boss.... You pull the boss!
