So am i weird? i leveled 1-40 adding points in my shadow tree and thought it was ok.
i hit 40 and got duel spec shadow/holy so i could heal some pugs and what not.

i read a post about dps'n/grinding in holy and gave it a try....and i am so hooked now.
i did add some spirt tap points for extra grinding regen help, but other then that all holy and loving it. i find i can grind a good long while before having to stop to drink, i get great crits and seem to be rocking the levels pretty fast.

...now when i flip over to shadow, i find myself looking for a rotation that works...., but holy just seems to flow.

and on top of that, its great to be DPS in holy spec in a group.....opps the healer just got destroyed....o wait, i still have a ton of mana and can pump that tank back up to stop a wipe.

Well, holy dps is pretty bad but I love it for leveling.

I'm currently 30/28/3 specced (yeah, it looks odd but it works) and although I'm not the quickest killer I can go on for an eternity unless I get a pile of adds.

And Holy Fire > Smite spam > SW:Death to finish off is just neat, simple and fun. :P

Well sure... Smite.. Smite... Smite... ;)

Before dual spec I of course did not bother respeccing for grinding and dailies and the like, or for battlegrounds, and I leveled 70-80 as Holy. Holy is actually a pretty nice all-around type spec. What you lack in farming efficiency you (almost, anyway) make up in longevity. A person who can live forever will eventually be the last one standing. If someone calls you to do a heroic or help them take down a roving band of gankers, you're ready to go without having to change your outfit. With Holy Reach and CoH you're a healing force to be reckoned with on a battleground.

I wouldn't try to DPS in a group with it except on like Wacky Wednesday or something, but for any other purpose, Holy has suited me just fine.

Edit: I didn't mention Aethien's spec in my reply because I assumed that by mutual agreement we would never speak of it, right? ;)

It's so good it doesn't need to be spoken about, it's awesomeness is visible to anyone anyway.

And I'm only staying with my holy/disc leveling spec until level 77, I'll be speccing a much more standard Disc build at lvl 78 and farm BG's from the moment I ding 78 until 80. :)

Check out some of the priests in SK-gaming's rankings. Most are going the traditional cookie cutter route but quite a few are going more like 54/17 to pick up Searing Light for extra offensive capability. What are everyone's thoughts on that?

It's probably what I'll do when I get the new girl up to 80. There was a time when Mana Burn was about the only offensive spell you'd ever cast in PVP (not counting offensive dispelling), but Mana Burn a druid these days and you're likely to be the one OOM. Plus I mostly do battlegrounds and world PVP rather than arena and I like being able to kill stuff if I'm caught by myself. As powerful as Disc shields are I think there will be plenty of situations when there's enough time between Penances to throw out a Smite instead of a Flash Heal.

Then again, deciding which Disc talents to give up to do that makes me sad.

Well, I went for a relatively defensive build here because I won't have much resillience or health.
I am planning to put the last two points in Holy specialization for the additional 2% crit as from what I've read and heard you either have no time for mana burn or you're better off casting say.. a holy fire or mind blast in the same time.

The only real contender for those points are the 2 in imp. Mana burn, reflective shields or martyrdom.
Martyrdom's reduced pushback when you get crit is a bit lame as I'll have healing focus and shields up more often than now.
And if I don't have a shield up I wasn't planning to go stand still while being hit but rather do something about it.
Reflective shields only works for shields on you (I heard that was a bug, and they just matched the tooltip to the bug?) so that's not spectacular either.

Once I get gear, and I stop feeling squishy, I'll move points from spell warding to divine fury.
Possible one from holy specialization to searing light too, although I wouldn't know where to get the last point.
I'd guess imp. flash heal is the best place to get that one last point, although I'm not that happy to get rid of some mana effeciency and 3% crit on targets at below 50% hp.

I'm not even counting those - those're out from the start. It's choices like Enligthenment, Imp Flash Heal, Holy Spec, Grace and Absolution that make my heart hurt.

In the end I'll most likely go with this for my PVP spec (Holy for PVE). I'll probably also play around with this though.

Edit: closer to the original topic, I'm not afraid to go into BG's with a "Holy PVP" spec something like this either. Much as it burns my eyes to see a Holy spec without Guardian Spirit, considering a battleground situation this favors CoH and Flash Heal over any single target healing.

A holy spec with instant shields. I like it. I only use my holy spec for the Loatheb fight (PoH/CoH for the win), but with your spec I might be tempted to try it in other situations.

Holy is great for grinding out dailiy mobs and BGs. Body and soul is just too much fun when running with the flag carrier. Although I think I might check out disc for the bgs, but that speed boost in holy is so much fun.

I usually like to use a spec like this for farming and pvp. My method is boring/lazy, but those holy nova sparkles go a long way if you stick with two or three people 3.

At the rate Blizzard is going, maybe we will see a Tri-spec! Then I can stop dropping 50g twice a week.

Shame on me for missing Teacake's holy pvp spec before posting! I love it ^_^ Although I tweaked it a bit to include the reflective shield and dropped the pushback talent. Like I said I usually spam cast instants while on the run. I also changed the glyphs, unless I am in AV or WG I usually never have enough people around me to warrent the CoH Glyph and I love the PW:S heal. I've decided to start a Goblin Priest just for pvp... hehe

spec

Funny you should say that, I was torn between the CoH glyph and the PW:S, but then I said to myself, "You spend a LOT of time in AV and WG" and that clinched it. I also do a lot of WSG but they killed the Psychic Scream glyph so that doesn't matter.

AV has a lot of downsides, particularly for Horde, but I think it's also a great battleground for squishies. Such nicely defined fronts, and enemies often coming at you from only one direction. It's a great chance to hide behind the Big Scary Guy in Plate while healing.

Speaking of which, nothing makes me happier than getting on the vehicle in Strand and healing while nobody can touch me. Why don't they fix the Wintergrasp tanks so I can do that? :D

For solo play, I consider a holy spec just because nothing has any kind of resistance to holy. Shadow, however...

Well, let's just say I'm glad the NR and outland mobs don't have the same shadow resist that many vanilla demons and undead do (check out the infernals and other demons nearby in Ashenvale as a similar level shadow priest if you doubt me).

Why? Why did they do that? I got so ticked off by it.

And then this mob in OL that can do a 15s spell-lock interrupt. Oh-ho-ho that was fustrating.

I would never get to 2k dps on Loatheb if I use all those gcd's on shields. Smiley: tongue

I actually am a fan of shielding the group, although usually it's just 5 mans that I keep perma-shielded.

From what I am reading, as of 3.0.3, all damage on Loatheb ignores the absorption effect of PW:Shield. People are reporting they have watched the tank die, all while keeping him shielded. Starting your PoH 2 seconds before the 3 second healing window, then immediately following with glyphed CoH is amazing on this fight.

Hmm... I have been shielding people on Loatheb for the past 3 months and haven't noticed such a thing. What's your source, Dada?

I did a little more searching, and there seems to be some confusion in forum posts about just what is or is not absorbed. Most say that some types of damage are absorbed, so shields appear to be a good tactic, augmented with additional healing as needed. I definitely can have some fun experimenting.
Some sample posts:

One peculiarity of Deathbloom is that the five small DoT ticks cannot be absorbed by Power Word: Shield, while the larger bloom at the end can be absorbed.

These hold true regardless of the Necrotic Aura.

1. Deathbloom ticks will not be absorbed by Power Word: Shield, but the larger bloom at the end is absorbed.

2. Inevitable Doom is not absorbed by PWS.

3. Physical Damage the tank takes from Loatheb is absorbed by PWS.

Last time I watched for it (it's been many months), the wiki details held true. The smaller dots were not absorbed, but the big one at the end was absorbed by the shield.

There is a spot that is great for a disc/holy priest to grind frostweave cloth. It is in Icecrown, just a tiny bit to the east of the Shadow vault (if you get to "shoot 'em up" daily spot you went too far). The mobs respawn very quickly and you can basically holy nova them all down. It is a questing spot, so every now and then I will group with a lowbie and kill the mobs for them in return for cloth. ;)

LoL, I have never completed the Strand, (too focused on getting all my pvp mounts) but I totally agree! Especially from a seat on a vehicle that has no combat features... Let me heal!

And yes, I too am guilty of hiding inside Taurens during AV... It is a great place to heal, drink up, or just wait for the GY to cap. ^_^

I still have to try out that spec, I spent two full days working on the Insane title and did not have a chance to hop into a BG.

WTB a "Blender" that can be crafted by engineers. You should be able to place multiple herbs, ores, and greens into the blender. It will then mill/prospect/DE all items.
I milled 3000 herbs Monday -_-
