Holy Paladins get your haste above 500 ASAP.

Tip of the day.

Edit - if you haste is below 300 and you are using a +SP trinket, use the Egg of Mortal Essence badge trinket, NOT the Naxx +SP /w HoT proc!

1.1 second FoL self-buffed. I'll see it under a second when my guild stops falling apart and gets back to raiding. (I'm not pugging anymore, not on Burning Steppes. It's unbearable)

Bodh - I have two questions for you.

On topic: How high would you push haste? I had it over 600 pre-patch; it's dropped to just below 600 now. I've heard people throw around 600 as the number to aim for, what's your opinion on that?

Off topic: What libram are you using?

With the possibility of sounding totally retarded, I ask this as a somewhat new Holy Paladin:

Why?

And yes, I know. Bodh's words are law. :)

FoL shouldn't go below 1.00 since the haste cannot push the GCD below 1 second so its just wasted at that point. I can get up to 750 haste from current gear but 540ish has me at 1.04 second cast while in raid.

Haste = Throughput for a holy paladin. Gearing (but not gemming) for haste beats stacking Spell power, like a bully holding down a nerd and using the nerds own hands to beat himself up "Quit hitting yourself".

Got 509 haste just now. Should I be looking to make sidegrades from Crit/Haste gear to MP5/Haste gear?

And is Haste now better than crit? Is MP5 better than crit?

Haste is a throughput stat, like SP. Crit is a mana regen stat, though critting can help throughput in increased healing its usually overhealing. Which is a long way of saying its comparing apples to oranges in a way.

I get what you are saying though.

Haste/Mp5 gear is the new black. But as mentioned taking haste past 1.00 FoL is wasteful, so there is a soft cap so to speak. While Mp5 is desired you cannot ignore Crit without gimping yourself so we are back in a TBC position where we have to balance mp5/crit for mana regen, which is dependant on how you heal.

So is it safe to gem for both int and sp with some mp5? I know theres that one new gem that has the sp and mp5.

As Bodhi said, Haste is throughput and Crit is regen. However, with Seal of Wisdom, Judgement is a major regen tactic for us in the post-3.2 world. And Haste gives you more GCDs, so unless you're spamming you can Judge more often, which leads to more regen. My napkin math says that moving from 20-second Judgement (to keep the debuff rolling) to 10-second Judgment (Judge on cooldown) is worth 150mp5 with a 25k mana pool (200mp5 with a 35k mana pool). That alone clobbers what you can get from swapping a couple pieces of gear. This also implies that the 2T9 "bonus" is actually a penalty unless you really are spamming so hard that you can only afford one GCD per 30 seconds...

Something else that surprised me is that, at my gear level closing in on 219, for a tough (bordering on progression) fight, crit and mp5 are practically even in itemization for me. So my best gearing strategy is to just take whatever's best and not worry about stacking any particular regen stat except Int (I still see no particular reason to gem for anything else in the absence of meta requirements and/or tasty socket bonuses). Your mileage may vary, of course, based on your content and your gear level, but that's why there are simulators, as well as extra bag space to keep both pieces and try them out.

It's pretty obvious he was musing about how much mana you would regen by keeping Judgement on cooldown, hitting the boss with it every 10 seconds, to get JoWisdom procs.

I don't think it's really practical to work out how much MP5 that equates to because even on easy content it would be impractical and maddening to spend that many globals targeting and judging.

I always had a tacit agreement with the rets and prots i raid with to leave the Judgement debuffs to them, and not try to pad healing meters by overwriting a much stronger ret's Light or w/e. I had the FoL crit glyph from early on instead of the Holy Light splash glyph so i was used to doing terrible on meters but always being the last to run OOM and doing the most effective healing. Mostly thanks to reading Bohdi's posts here tbh.

It's about 1058 mana per proc so maybe, but judging on cd you are going to get about 2-3 procs per minute, lose 219 mana per cast so 6x219.

Easier to run up to the boss (depending on boss) and get 2-3 melee strikes while spike damage on raid/tank is light.

In my defense, I was posting from work so my brain was nonfunctional... I forgot the PPM factor - while SoW makes Judgements mana-neutral (in fact, slightly positive), there's not so much return that you should change your style. Especially when, as Bodhi says, a few whacks at a passing mob will get you more.

What is the soft cap for haste? I have my haste at 585 unbuffed, with Judgement on I have my FoL at 1.11 cast time.

Come to think of it, I should test this with a shammy totem up....

Raid buffed with shaman totem i am at 1.03 fol (jotpure up) with 546 haste. Not sure of the exact point you hit the cap, though if I am bored tomorrow I will try to look it up.

Here is a good article from holypaladin.net regarding haste:

Here are three others to peruse:

Edited to include the "...three others..." links.

All haste effects (Wrath of Air, Sanc Ret, JotP, and Gear) stack multiplicatively. So with all of them you only need 20.6% haste from gear to get haste soft capped (50%, for 1sec GCDs). 100 Spell Haste at 80 will give you 3% haste.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you Vipraxay. I hear everyone saying start stacking haste/mp5 gear. What raids in progression does this choice take affect? I'm still still geared for sp/crit, when should I find the need to make the switch? I'm not in a progression guild so we still play around in Naxx when we have enough people. Will this haste/mp5 switch benefit me even if I'm having 0 problems healing? What areas/fights should I be looking out for where it might be tough to keep up? I'm assuming it's for the later parts of Ulduar and any new raids coming out, but I doubt I'll be going there anytime soon.

Just an off topic: Where's the place to go to find Pally specs nowadays? I used to go to Tankspot.com but damned if I can find anything on there now.
