Pros and cons for a rogueFollow

#1 Aug 11 2009 at 6:09 AM Rating: Decent
I am asking this on a few class boards because I am trying to get back in the game and trying to decide on a class to stick with, If you would, can you please share what you like and dislike about the class? I was always kinda worried about the low armor while soloing.

Personally, I enjoy my rogue. Once you're able to get things like stealth and vanish, it makes the whole "low armor" thing not as bad as it seems. Grabbed too many mobs? Vanish. Don't want to pull a big group and just get to the shiny node past them? Stealth through.

Rogues have a lot of talents available to them to attempt to keep control of a situation. Talents such as blind, gouge, cheapshot, kidney shot, etc all allow a rogue to keep a mob stunlocked and not get hit.

While leveling, I used the blind and bandage technique quite a bit so I can continue moving. So if you do decide to continue to level your rogue, make sure you're keeping first aid leveled up.

Other than that, one suggestion I was going to make for you on your original thread is to level the ones that you're enjoying. When you get bored with that one, move onto your next favorite. Make sure if you take this method to log off in an inn or city to take advantage of the rested xp.

The thing about rogues is they control the fight. They lose control they lose the fight. It's not like a warrior or paladin or death knight that basically just charge in and hack everything. They have to assess the situation and start with different tactics accordingly. They get a good variety of skills and abilities that make things interesting when things go bad and they still come up on top. They are one of the best soloers.

I have leveled a Paladin, a Hunter, a Shadow Priest and a Rogue to L80, another Hunter to L70, a DK to L71, a Warrior to L62 and a Druid to L51. The most fun, by far, was the Rogue.

As said in the two posts above, you control the fight. I think the point when I realized just how much fun, and why, I was having was in Western Plagues when I was going for the Hunter boss in the "kill these three bosses of the Scarlet Crusade" quest. He had his pet, three other MoBs stationary near him and all four were the corners of a rectangle, and two patrols that came up to this group on their patrol. For the first time I had to actually figure a detailed strategy (don't worry, it doesn't take more than ten seconds or so). Without going into great detail, after I completed this kill I really felt a sense of accomplishment I never felt on the five previous times I did it.

Not every fight is like that, but for most fights you are constantly thinking about how to use all of your abilities to complete the task. It's not "just charge in and take them all on" like my Pally, DK, or Warrior; it's not "send in my pet and pew pew" like my hunter; it's not "dot 'em up and fear if you need to" like my SP. Stealthing around, ambushing MoBs from behind, pick-pocketing and laughing later at some of the stuff you get, it's all just fun.

It wouldn't be as much fun if my rogue was wearing mail.

EDIT: which way is east?
