3.2 tanking sealFollow

So its clear that Bliz intends (and it seems, PTR testers are using) SoV as the Pally DPS seal.

But whats the 3.2 tanking seal?

The only thing I use when tanking currently is SoV. Is SoV going to be used for both DPS and tanking? Or are tanks better off using something else post patch?

As far as I know, SoV is going to be the seal of choice for both ret and prot pallies, since SoC is getting turned into SoR and SoB/M is getting removed completely.

Nothing I have read so far is turning me away from using SoV for tanking. It'll stack on just auto attacks and HotR which is plenty of time to get a full stack. Plus once there's a full stack it'll be more potent than ever.

Yea, I'll still be using SoV :)

Thanks!

Thats what seemed to be logical to me based on how I understood the SoV mechanics, but I recall Bliz making comments about SoR being the tanking seal back when early 3.2 discussions were happening, so I wanted to make sure I didn't miss some other changes.

SoV is certainly an integral part of my 3.1 AoE tanking, and I had a hard time envisioning how the HoR spread DoT could not be necessary. I guess I was right, that it is still going to be the best :)

Blizzard isn't paying enough attention if they think that SoR is the tanking seal. It hasn't been like that since late BC.

Slightly off topic, but zepoodle got me thinking :)

Honestly I'm not sure Blizz knows what to do with the Seals right now. At least, it doesn't seem like they do. Unless they are making the current changes in anticipation of some more up and coming changes that they are not ready to implement/announce yet. Removing SoB/tM and changing SoC the way they have leaves really only SoR and SoV/Cor for DPS purposes. Wisdom and Light imo are becoming more gimmicky or "Holy only" (with the use of Glyphs that is). Maybe some PvP use, but at max level, not a lot of PvE use. Unless some additional changes are made I can see tanks still never straying from SoV and DPS just using SoR a lot of the time depending on the fight: fights with less movement and fewer targets would be ok for SoV, but too much target switching and you can't keep a stack up.

Meh, probably rambling. It's like 100 degrees here, I ain't thinkin' straight :P hehe

SoV/Corr is going to be even more awesome for tanking. The funny thing is, they're going to be weak for Ret outside fights where you almost never have to move.

Seal of Righteousness will be the DPS seal for low HP trash, and fights with lots of target switching.

I can't read about the 3.2 changes without screaming at my computer..

Crap, i'm behind. Righteousness, not command? Can you explain and or link me to a discussion of the maths?

Is blizzard aware that Ret can't use vengeance most of the time?

While there won't be old-fashioned "seal twisting", I do foresee something like Warrior "stance dancing" with switches between SoR and SoV between phases of a single fight, or even within a phase depending on whether you're anticipating 20 seconds of uninterrupted single-target DPS. Elitist Jerks has plenty of theorycrafting using current PTR data (what you think of that depends on your opinion of EJ theorycrafting).

In fact, done right, the changes have the potential to separate the skilled from the mediocre. It goes without saying that for this to be true, it must be possible for a skilled Ret to be within the "hybrid tax" delta of an equivalently skilled pure DPSer. Blizzard says that this is their intent. But then, Blizzard says a lot of things.

Righteousness hits harder, and apparently Command has the weakest of all judgements. Righteousness can't crit, but it's still higher overall.

I haven't been able to get onto the PTR to be sure, this is just what I'm reading.

That's pretty much what I've been reading too. Taken from the "Seals and Judgements" thread here:

Seal of righteousness vs command:

It's pretty simple. Command has been nerfed extremely heavily, the judgement is both much weaker and no longer crits stunned targets automatically. Unlike righteousness, the seal itself can crit and scales better with weapon damage and raid buffs however. Because Seals of the Pure is an important dps talent now, Seal of Righteousness will outdo command on short duration trash, especially if you are expertise capped from gear and can take glyph of seal of righteousness over the 10 expertise vengeance glyph.

*note: this was based on threads on the EJ site.

On short duration fights SoR will win out, and fights where you'll have a longer duration you will want to be using SoV anyway so the difference between Righteous and Command for those longer durations is moot. At least everything I have seen points to this.
