Hey all, thought I would make a post for fun. As the title implies, I'm looking for funny tanking stories, the ones that make you /facepalm after everything is said and done. I have a good one, I think. It was so bad, I had actually laughed about it for some time afterwards.

A level 73 guild mate of mine just picked up the game again after taking a break, and had just picked up WotLK last month I believe. He is not a bad player at all, but he does tend to ask me to tank instances for him often, and sure, why not? Just normal mode instances, I'm 80 with some decent gear, shouldn't be too bad. We get done over a course of a couple days running Nexus, UK, and DTK. All good runs where he got to learn some bosses, pick up some loot and move on...

Then he asked me to tank Violet Hold one day for him..

No problem! I thought. Can't really ***** VH up on normal, especially if you have 2 level 80's running with you. So it was me, an 80 Warlock guild mate and my 73 Paladin guild mate. We pugged a 75 DK and a 75 Druid healer to run. The party was assembled and me, the Druid and DK go into the instance and wait for my two guild mates to come along. The first problem we ran across is that the Paladin had never been to Dalaran, and without a meeting stone, we were going to have to rely on the Warlock to summon him inside. No problem, they are on their way... right? I tell the Warlock over party chat that we are going to need to summon him inside since he has never been here, and he replied that he was on his way, from Borean Tundra.

10 minutes go by...(time frames are NOT an exxageration)

I hover over the Warlock in the party pane, and notice he is still in Borean Tundra. I tell him again that he needs to be on his way soon, so we can summon the Paladin inside to do the instance. He tells me again he is on his way. After this was said, without warning, the Druid turns around and leaves the instance and drops the party. Am I surprised? Nah, I guess not, I suppose I would too if the rest of the party was not making any effort to get here. The DK being bored from waiting starts beating up the adds that spawn that the guards fend off.

We pick up another Druid healer, while the Warlock is still on his way.

5 minutes go by...

The Druid made it into the instance before the Warlock, which the Druid was somewhere in Dragonblight if I remember, and had to take a flight point to get there. Shortly after, the Warlock finally arrives... in Dalaran. I hover over him again and it read Violet Hold.. so I wait.. and wait.. and after another 2 minutes he zoned in. Great! We can finally start this instance, because you know, time is money. So much time has gone by from waiting for him, that I actually had to remind him that we needed to summon the Paladin inside.. /sigh. Everyone is ready to roll now, so we start the instance, and the first pull is in that corner to the right upon entering.

First pull... the dragon bugs, submerges under the floor, and is now unattackable. I did everything I could think of to pull him back up... thunderclap, challenging shout, etc. Nothing. Okay no problem, now that everyone is here, let's just let the adds break down the door and then we can reset instead of wiping and costing us money. I instructed everyone to move by the little waterway, so that we would not get aggro from the adds and that they can do their own thing.

The DK did not listen. Te DK stood in front of the door, guarding it at all costs, despite me telling him 3 times that we are letting the adds break the door down so we can reset. No reply.. at all. I thought to myself, well okay, maybe he will just eventually die. Nope, every time he was low on health, the Druid ran away from us to go heal him... /sigh.

I start spamming it now, telling both the Druid and the DK to get back and let the door break down.. nothing. More portals started to open, and guess who the first boss is to spawn?

Ha, that's right. Ichoron.

At this point, I said ***** it, and I tried tanking the boss, as well as ripping all the adds off the door, and began the fight. With all the adds running around, nobody was dps'ing the slimes that the boss disperses into, which eventually led us to a wipe. After the wipe, the DK left, but at this point my head was buried in my hands after all the time I had to wait, refusing to listen, and now having to pay gold for what was supposed to be a quick and easy run, that I had to left as well.

After I logged, I had actually laughed because of how ridiculous the whole situation was. Any other tanks (or dps I suppose) ever been in a run like this? A run that no matter what, it was just never meant to work? I'd like to hear some. :)
